OscarRaven Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 In that case launching a bid or showing serious interest in the club during a transfer window has to be the worst timing ever. I'm confident had Bellamy wanted to come to Rovers we would have been able to do the deal so I'm not too concerned and on the flip side if it gives Mark Hughes an excuse (not that I think he would use it) to any potential want-aways all the better.

daren Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Didn't one of the takeovers last season (Lerner at Villa, I think) take less than a week for due diligence, saying "If both parties are motivated enough, it can be done quickly". Especially because whoever it was was trumping some-one else's interest in the club. Not that it matters, I'm happy enough that everyone takes their time. And the due diligence period can, of course, take any length of time.

I don't mind if it takes a while but I'd like to get updates on the situation and at least know what's going on.
brfc fan Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Hang on here's some news. I think this has already been posted but here's the link anyway. Rovers takeover unlikely before transfer window shuts
philipl Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Arsenal MD with some robust words about American take overs.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 ''Arsenal managing director Keith Edelman has claimed that any potential investor may try to take more money out of the club than they would put in.'' Well I never.....the shock of it!

Well I never.....the shock of it! Never! Trying to make a fast buck out of a football business? Some on here would think that is criminal.
John Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Sorry guys but not seen this article posted anywhere yet - Daniel Williams on buying Southampton Williams: Saints must be 'compelling' for me to invest in them
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Sorry guys but not seen this article posted anywhere yet - Daniel Williams on buying Southampton Williams: Saints must be 'compelling' for me to invest in them Hardly sounds like the unequivocal comments of a lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter to me. P.S. Does anyone else not think it a tad strange that there only appears to one photograph in existence on the planet of Mr. D. Williams? Unsall, does he match the description of the guy you saw at Roves with Walter Hubert a few months back?
nicko Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 To be fair to Dan Williams that article was an honest answer to questions about whether he was interested in buying Southampton. It was the same when he was quizzed over Blackburn Rovers. I think you'll see he stresses that Rovers are the club he wants - and that is the case. Since his name came to light a few weeks ago there have been several other 'middle men' working for other clubs who have been contacting him and his backers from to see if they would be interested in buying them. As we stand I think you will find that he wants to buy Blackburn if the deal is right and has turned down other advances. Southampton is a total mess if you have been following the story, too many people have a large slice of the club and it is hard for anyone to come in and buy out the factions before sorting out their debts and signing players. I believe there have been five or six clubs making approaches to the Williams team. That tells you a great deal about the current state of football clubs. The Rovers case is different because it is not a company in trouble, but just one that is open to new ownership. As has been the case all along it will come down to valuations and hopefully there will be a decision soon.
nicko Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I wish I could be precise, but I know there is a bit of urgency in it now.
nicko Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Because the Williams team want to close this soon at the right price... There was a stand-off over valuations, but I understand that there could be a compromise. If not I think they will go away. This has been going on behind the scenes for almost four months now. The interest from other clubs has made them think, so they could look ast other possibilities, but they would far rather stick with the original plan.
Guest Kamy100 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 After reporting last week that no deal was "imminent" today morning the Lancashire Telegraph reports that David Williams will be talking to the investors and is hoping to move things along by the end of the week.
Hughesy Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Please lets see some activity - something to excite the majority of fans!!
RevidgeBlue Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 US bidder closes in on Rovers The internet discussion underneath the story is inrteresting once again. Southampton fans seem to think that Daniel Williams has been both posing on their fans forums as a female Southampton fan, and also communicating directly with other Saints fans as himself. Rovers fans are convinced it's an extremely clever hoax being perpetrated by Pompey fans. It's a little odd how this chap Daniel Williams supposedly finds himself the unfortunate subject of hoaxers all the time. Initially when the takeover story broke there was that weird web site "DJW Ventures" which nicko said was a hoax and said the real DW was trying to get it shut down.
Claytons Left Boot Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Nicko - you definitely seem like one of us now! If you can have a word with the powers that be to get their finger out and give us back our club shop, we'll have a whip round and buy you a Rovers shirt. Which would you prefer Blue & White or Red & Black?
nicko Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Red and black would be more flattering... On the takeover front, I was a bit surprised at the Southampton stuff too. But some people move in mysterious ways. From what I have been able to find out Dan Williams wants Rovers badly and has stuck with the idea despite the chance of a more attractive business deal elsewhere - and that was not Southampton. I also believe his team are totally in favour of both the manager and chairman staying. In fact that is a priority. For reasons that may be revealed later the stories in the paper about the takeover probably held it up, but I think it is back on track. But if it does not happen soon then it might just go away. What I would also add is that there have been other potential bidders in the past who were chased away by the club because they had strange ideas. So far Williams and his backers have not met that kind of resistance. Hopefully it goes to due diligence or whatever the financial people call it very shortly.

philipl Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 The stuff posted on the LT web site by the Saints fans is accurate and under-stated to the best of the knowledge of people I know in that neck of the woods.
nicko Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Some of the strange ideas - in fact a recurring theme - was the idea of a casino. This was raised by a couple of the bidders. It was something that a lot of foreign investors thought made Premiership clubs interesting and Rovers were no exception. I think you need a more sound financial plan than that although it is a fair idea. However - as it happens - the whole casino fad would appear to be less likely under Gordon Broon. On Southampton, I understand that there was an approach from a deal-maker to the Williams camp and there were conversations. But, like I said before, Rovers has always been their first choice and main aim. Once your name goes in the papers and people think you have cash there are a lot of clubs and middle men and women out there who want to be your new best friend.
