One thing I do find strange is why this thread wasnt started a year ago? Odd that it should begin around the same time as takeover-mania??? As an old cynic I dont believe they are unconnected ..............

As another old cynic I suggest you check who did the first post on this.

I didn't even know your website existed at the time.

wtf! Can someone please remind me of this 'stick' that I am giving?

Making valid comments / queries even on delicate issues is not 'giving stick'.... and I can assure you that I know chapter and verse about getting stick on here! Ignoring them and worse not daring to ask whilst voicing simpering platitudes and wringing me ecky thump cap for all its worth because Alan Nixon is our closest thing to a celeb is frankly pathetic. As far as I am concerned the biggest disagreement that I have had with AN is over the playing ability of Shadsworths favourite son! Talk about chucking enough mud for some to stick eh? Lets ask the great man.... (Leaving the Cross Maltese out of this as his contribution does seem rather truculent at the minute) Have I written anything to offend you Mr Nixon?

Wasn't referring to you when making my post gordon.

The Reebock also sees lots of corporate activity, such as mid-week business meetings and seminars due to being accessible by road and rail. I know this because I go to the said dump on a regular basis. Can I get the host companies to go to Ewood....NO....as "Ewood is too difficult to get to" and "it has no hotel facilities" etc, etc.

Really can't understand why that should be the case pb - it takes about 60 seconds to get from J4 of the M65 to Ewood. There's just that silly little traffic island to negotiate which is hard work if you're not used to it. And there's three hotels within that radius.

Personally I'd rather Ewood was finished off than move to a new site, though I'm looking at it purely in terms of tradition and from a football perspective than from any potential busines development opportunity.

If any potential new new owners did decide to move us Salmesbury might be the better location as there's more hotels round J4 M65 than you can shake a stick at now.

Edit: Although thinking about it, any development at Salmesbury would have Fred Walker's Stanley House and the Tickled Trout either side.

Nicko, I wouldn't worry about Phillipl, your contribution at present is far more interesting than his, which is probably why he is being a bit of an idiot.

Why is phillipl being made a target?

Whilst I disagree with many of his opinions on the non-football sections of this site, phillipl has consistently given one of the best "free-to-air" in-depth analysis of football related matters available. Including the rubbish you can read in the rags and even the serious press - which in case you were missing he normally posts links to well before our UK breakfast time, so you and I can make up our own minds over OJ and toast.

Phil has been posting for at least 6 years - and there's an overall site Contributor of the Year award in there (2003 I think).

Nicko is a tabloid freelancer, out to sell headline grabbing stories, who started posting on here not even a month ago. He writes for the same paper which was dirt on this messageboard (Mirror) when seemingly intent on advertising all of Rovers best talent at the end of last season.

And today Nicko admits he writes articles for the Scottish Sun FFS!! OK some posts are interesting and generate comment, but the hero worship being dished out is laughable and hypocritical. Other crap journalist inventions in the red tops are treated with deserved cynicism on here - so why do people change the rules for a red top journo who has enough spare time to post on such a specific internet forum?????

Keep it coming by all means, but don't take umbrage when sensible comment and analysis follows. That's the business you're in.

I am by no means an IT expert but is there such a thing as an "ignore" button or something?

If so cant Phillipl and his ilk utilise it and let the rest of us who enjoy have a professional journalist contribute on here read his posts in peace?

Are you incapable of reading and digesting comment which dares to deviate from the opinion of the said "professional journalist"?

If you are so incapacitated, why don't YOU use the ignore button?

Wheee the knives are out! Some personal clashes in there, I feel.

Actually, I tend to agree with phillipl myself in most cases and appreciate his financial analysis. I reckon he's being a little insulting by suggesting that nicko's a shill, though, when there's no evidence of that. Nicko's a freelance sports journalist who sells his story to the highest bidder. Because he's freelance, if he screws up no-one will buy his stories again. It's in his own best interests to be right. And I still want to know what phillipl's inside knowledge about the Southampton message board incident is.

Hahaha, a little paranoid Theno? :)

daren, fair points and I apologise if I have caused unfounded offence to nicko. Of course freelance means you take your income from where you can.

I am not going to say any more re Saints- if you have formed the impression that they were unimpressed by DW you might not be wrong but then again, anyone looking at the state of Saints might not wish to give it their best shot.

There are many groups looking at football club investment.

It is hard fact that John Williams has said that Rovers have had a number of enquiries and have appointed one of the most respected set of financial advisers in the business to deal with serious enquiries and offer guidance to the Trustees.

There is only one bidder for Rovers that has been publicly sleuthed by a freelance journalist as far as I know. A freelance journalist who has passed comment on the number of bidders for Rovers (one apparently "DW was bidding against himself"), price negotiation (something about over-bidding by £10m), state of preparedness to make a formal offer ("next week"), how hard DW is working and now claims extensive inside knowledge about how fantastic a £64m bid is going to be....

Then at Southampton, only one potential bidder both attracted unusual traffic on supporter web sites and became very publicly known when to be honest nobody would have been looking for his name because of the national publicity linking him to Rovers.

An intelligent reader can be healthily sceptical.

Hmmmm - a freelance journalist who digs up facts - very dodgy. Using your 'healthy scepticism' criterion, Bernstein and Woodward must have been in cahoots with Richard Nixon - look at all the inside knowledge they had!

Given that Alan Nixon makes at least part of his living breaking Rovers stories, pound to a penny that he has a good source within the club itself.

My thoughts as well. Nicko always seems to have a surprisingly informed knowledge of what's happening behind the scenes at Ewood even when he is breaking stories which might not make him very popular - as was the case 12 months ago.

Just for the record.

NONE of the takeover stuff came from the club.

Sometimes you just get lucky, either hear stuff second hand or get a break.

I think there are many at the club who would like to know where stories come from, but that has been the case with the past dozen or so regimes.

It's part of the fun...

I was thinking more in terms of your track record on exclusive scoops with Rovers related transfer news - good or bad!

I for one believe you when you say that none of the the takeover stuff came from either DW or the club as it would have been better for both parties to have concluded the deal in secret.

Because he's freelance, if he screws up no-one will buy his stories again.

The accuracy of his stories has nothing to do with who will pay what to print them... only the attraction they generate and number of papers they sell will do that and lets be honest, its often the sh1t stirring bull that does that. Im not having a go at anyone, merely just pointing out that what you said is no reason to believe everything he writes... everyone should make their own minds up and if they dont like what someones saying (for whatever reason) then they should discard it, theres no reason to go so far off track and start slinging mud at eachother.

Back to Rovers being sold...

I know it was bandied about and then sort of dismissed when the news first started, but those of you wondering how they will make a profit - have you considered Brockhall? I believe we have a good chunk of land there with the training facilities and then some. Williams' group are property developers. You do the math.

I have done: 0+0=0 and 0-0=0

I believe that in the planning concession, all buildable land is built at Brockhall. I think there is a binding covenant on the Rovers as to future use of the land stipulated by the local Council and I recall Jack Walker saying that Brockhall was a facility for rovers for all time or something to that effect.

Nice thought but about a dozen years after these chaps got there first.

Whilst I suspect in part you are right. Brockhall certainly isnt completed - I was there today watching the Academy - the place is like a building site!
