S15 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I think the Mirror might be worth reading in the morning. I hope that the wait is worth it and I also hope that the paper knows a good story when it sees one. In a shamless bid to sell papers I will just leave it at that. If the story is not printed in all of its glory I will fill on some gaps tomorrow. But for now that's all I can say. Oh come on you can't do that.

Wiggy Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Upstaged by the Martin Jol story. Your piece was OK after it had been rewritten. Well I sincerely hope Nicko's optimism is not misplaced. (a bit sour Jim ) Rovers sold
nicko Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Those are the facts as I know them - plain, simple and put in football language. Not re-written either, mastered joined-up writing some time ago. It's now just a matter of whether the trustees accept the offer. The hold-ups since I first broke the story have been over valuation of the shares and the question of money being made available for the pot to buy players. Obviously those two areas are also related. In an ideal world it would have happened quicker, but it's better to be right for all of the parties concerned and for the future if it takes time. There is also a great story behind the story, but that is best kept until the deal is done or falls through. From what I have been able to find out about Dan Williams I think he is genuine and able to deliver the promises he makes. He has told me about some of his plans, which have to remain off the record. However when he has outlined something he wants to do he seems to be able to make it happen. I think he is bright, full of ideas and knows a lot about football. The bid had taken several twists and turns over the past five months, but one thing has stayed constant - he wants to buy the club. There were other clubs, agents and middle men who came in when the Rovers deal wobbled, but it was his first thought and he kept coming back to it. I think it is for the right reasons, but only time will tell. Still, if anyone else can come up with £45 million for shares, an initial £25 million for new players and take on the debts and running costs they are certainly clear to try. Just tell me first, so that I can get that story too.
AggyBlue Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I didn't know we were £20M in debt, that's a bit of a shock. £25M to spend? I would hope he'd keep it in his pocket until January and then use it to bolster the squad were needed.
stuwilky Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I didn't know we were £20M in debt, that's a bit of a shock. I think Ive mentioned it once or twice

stuwilky Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I don't read your posts Understandable, I wouldnt either
Kai Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 i wonder who the queen supports?? she must have a few quid! Pretty sure it's Arsenal. She had them all round the palace last year didn't she?
S15 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 It's Leyton Orient, everyone knows that. Ironically shes been known to comment on how she f***ing hates QPR.
nicko Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I think it would be safe to describe the 'debt' as running costs and overheads. I don't think there is any need to be selling Big Issue just yet. It's there, somebody has to pay for it, but you couldn't run a football club without going into the red a bit and in advance.
rogerjonesgloves Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Article on mirror online- so no need to stump up for the paper. Interesting that Sky are more interested in who laid the Tsars driveway! Lots of gaps for Nicko to fill in Dont cut and paste news articles. People work hard to prepare these articles, it's their living. Not forgettting there are certain copyrights. samtheozzy Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Cheers. He's new Nicko, I don't think he realises you're the author...
EwoodGlory Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Think today is the first time i have bought a copy of the mirror, not a bad read. Thanks for the info Nicko
nicko Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Lots of gaps for Nicko to fill in If there are any questions feel free to ask...if I can answer without breaking a confidence or messing up the next story I will.

nicko Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I haven't seen his bank account, but if you can get the funds together for the shares [£45 million], a guaranteed pot [£25 million] you must be either worth something or have some very good friends. Managing the 'debt' would also take finance. When I first wrote the story I said he was heading consortium. That is basically the case.

nicko Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Right. I must say you are quick off the mark today. Buzzing. Been waiting on this thing to happen for weeks, watching the development and knowing a fair bit about it was doing my brains in. Somebody said a couple of months ago it was my 'baby' because I had written the first story. At times it has felt like that. Fortunately the stretch marks are invisible because they are inside my head...
adopted scouser Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Upstaged by the Martin Jol story. Your piece was OK after it had been rewritten. Take no notice Nicko, nothing worse than a jealous hack. Keep posting mate.
thenodrog Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 £45m + £20m debt (presumably to the Walkers). Isn't that just about the same as the original £65m bid or is it just a tax issue?
