No new News nicko??

I'm on a self-imposed and partly-requested vow of silence on this front just now.

But I realise there is still interest, so just as an update...

There is a lot happening behind the scenes at Dan Williams's end, but apparently not a great deal of 'focus' on getting the Rovers job done.

He has found someone to run his new building project in Nigeria, so that obstacle is removed.

However bear in mind it is a consortium. Some of his backers have other things that they want to do first.

There could be some news from his 'team' soon that will cause interest.

I will just leave it at that.

My personal view is that if it does not happen within the next month then it may just be over.

However I do notice that there are no other bidders on the horizon...despite what was being touted by the sellers a month or so back.

Maybe the last couple of results have also been a reminder to all concerned that there has to be investment in some areas of the side in January.

Where the money comes for that may become a major issue.

He has wanted out for a while though Den just like the Gold's. It is fantastic timing for them to palm the club off to Carson Young and let him take the tough times ahead.

There hasn't been any indication that Mr Williams is getting any closer to buying us, doesn't look good for Danny Boy.

Browsing through one or two Birmingham match reports and came across this article about David Sullivan wanting out of the club.

His views about foreign investors make for interesting reading.

His views on West ham's owners are the same as mine. Good to know that I haven't missed something somewhere cos I just cannot see the icelanders making any money out of that lot.

Top story on Sky Sports News tonight is about foreign investors in the Premiership.

The story follows Platini's comments that foreign owners are only coming into English football to make money (not for the love of the game).

Keith Harris thinks half the clubs (who have not been taken over) will see a change of ownership in the next two years.

I think many football fans have been saying this for a long time, must be a quiet news day if the media are just catching up with it.

As much as he is an arrogant idiot you have to be impressed by his straight talking approach. While I wouldn't want our chairman to be so open in the press, but it does give an interesting window in. I also thought one of his reasons for leaving was quite fair:

"Two, I think deep down the public have had enough of us. They think we should have mortgaged our houses to buy more players to compete with Chelsea and Arsenal. The honeymoon is long over and we're at the divorce stage now, unfortunately.""

Who would own a football club? Virtually all chairmen are universally despised, although obviously Sullivan hasn't done himself many favours, even our own John WIlliams who has played a large part in organising the club to compete in the top half with very little money gets a lot of stick.

Do you think ? I have never heard anyone give John Williams stick, he has been superb over the years and hopefully he will still be in charge if/when the club gets taken over.

There is an interview with Kia Joorabchian on the bbc website saying that if the right club was available for takeover he would look at it.

Somehow i couldn`t imagine anybody giving John Williams any stick at all.

Imo (and probably the majority of Rovers fans) i think he is the best chairman in the league bar none.

To keep the club running as it is,has been nothing short of a miracle and the day John Williams departs from Ewood will be a sad one indeed. :rover:

JBN you are confusing owners with chairmen. Though he has done a good job of running the club John Williams is basically a hired lad.

An extremely valuable contribution to the football debate by the always stimulating to read Will Hutton.

There are two very striking observations which are so obvious:

- as in so many things, the solution to the ills (in this case the English game being destroyed for English spectator) lies in Brussels. Only pan-European action can sort out spiralling wages, inappropriate ownership and road blocks to local talent. No individual country will ever take action on these fronts and put itself at competitive disadvantage in European competition.

- This is a direct quote: "It is not glory or football that motivates owners - it is discounted rates of return.

Arsene Wenger, the French coach of Arsenal, gave a devastating interview to France Football magazine last week. While Manchester United, one of the world's richest club, might service vast debts, he says the model is not transferable. The impact on smaller clubs could be 'mortal', simultaneously locked in an inflationary spiral to pay players, potentially culminating in a 'catastrophic' collapse of the over-indebted clubs."

The interview with Wenger which is another good read is here. The conversation with Thierry Henry is illuminating in its simplicity and honesty but one is left wondering whether Wenger actually played a blinder in shipping out a player whose magic was disappearing with injuries. More to the point of this thread, Wenger's points about continuity are a line which clearly resonates with the Williams/Hughes regime at Blackburn.

The fact that Rovers cannot fall into the hands of the likes of Dan Williams (short of the Walker Trust businesses all simultaneously failing) is probably the greatest gift and legacy of Jack Walker to Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

For some reason, I think I agree with you.

Nicko, can I gingerly ask you for an update on this topic?

I can't see the People paying for anymore of your fairy stories, so you might as well post them on here.

Yawn...

Not so much a Guided Missile as a Dud Scud?

Who's buying your club this week? Or, rather not.

Anyway, have you not got a house to make-over. Or a parish council meeting to attend?

You'll like this one, nicko. Apparently Saints are going to be bought by a guy called Jeff Cooper. He's a US lawyer who is in his thirties and emailed one of our posters that he is interested in Saints. Apparently the young entrepreneur and his backers are closing in on a sensational move to buy the franchise for St.Louis for £25 million.

You couldn't f***ing make it up, could you?

(Actually, I think you could....)

You would know about the St.Louis story if you read the Sunday People and got the hair out of your eyes...
