Jim Arnold was fantastic and I was gutted when Howard Kendall took him to Everton along with Messrs Bailey and Heaton. Didn't he come from a non-league team too?

What about Simon Garner...seem to re-call him donning the gloves once or twice? Cna't remember who against just remember his goal kicks were better!

Bailey was already at Everton when Kendall went-Heaton did go with Kendall. I'm pretty sure Garner was in goals against Ipswich in the old 2nd Division-they didn't score.

i know in my original post that i said we haven't had any bad goalkeepers...but i have just thought that alan fettis, possibly was a sclose as we have been to a 'bad' keeper...in my mind. maybe also include the germn dude klaus reitmeir, who is currently playing in the bundesliga!

BB, add to that Matt Dickens, Vince O'Keefe and Booby Mimms.

den i can understand dickens and o'keefe..but bobby!!!

the season that we won promotion and those seasons until tim came...he was pivatol to the success that we had. fair enough mimmsy wasn't brilliant but he certainly wasn't a bad keeper..surely not!~

All about opinions BB.

Mimms originally came on loan from Everton. At the time I thought it was a great signing. As usual though, once we went back for him, his form slowly declined. Someone commented about him being an awsome penalty stopper, but all I remember about that was the time he managed to sit on one. He was so flat footed it was untrue. He didn't earn the nickname "Booby Mimms" for nothing.

Another over rated 'keeper was Alan Kelly. Don't remember him ever stopping a shot. We lost a game 4-3 away at Liverpool not that long ago. Anyone see it? Kelly didn't save a thing all night.

Matt Dickens was awful-he played 1 game, let in 1 or was it 2 dodgy goals, and I don't think he evr played for us again. But earned a comparitive fortune sitting on the bench in the Premiership.

Darren Collier was very poor- I particularly remember losing about 1-4 at home to Middlesboro, when their players were just shooting from distance, and scoring! Collier had come on a free from them, so they knew him well. The next match was probably the home game against WH, in which we were leading 5-1 at half time and their fans staged a "sit-down". it ended up as 5-4 and if we had played a few minutes longer, we would have lost. Collier was playing.

One of the worst was John Butcher, not only because of the mistakes he made, but also because when Kendall was manager, he wanted to bring in a keeper from Bury but Butcher wouldn't move and Kendall couldn't justify 3 keepers because of our financial position. The keeper-Neville Southall-went on to have a glorious career for Everton and Wales.

Yes, he did. It was a 1-0 victory back in '87 I think. I seem to remember that O'Keefe broke his leg and Garns had to go in the nets.

TG is the top man for me. Still, I guess Brad does do it week in, week out at a much higher level than Terry ever did.

Reitmaier's still playing !??!!! Christ ! That game he played was back in 1990 ! I remember it well - a 4-1 defeat against Everton in the Zenith Data System's Cup.

My top Rovers keepers would come from this list:

Brad Friedle

Roger Jones

Paul Bradshaw

Terry Gennoe

Jim Arnold

Tim Flowers

Since 1971 when I first ventured into Ewood I cannot think of another keeper that would oust anyone on that list :brfc:

Certainly the best has been without a shadow of a doubt Brad Friedel. I've seen a few in my time and even though Tim Flowers has run him close as to being one of the best keepers Rovers' has ever had, but I'm with Robbie Savage on this one!!

Unfortunately, I've not been to a game before 1993/94 season and have only seen videos of previous goalkeepers since before that era and it wouldn't reflect a true judgement on these keepers.

Anyhow, I'm getting nervous as I have been asked to don the gloves to play in goals as my club aims to aviod relegation. It'll be a b1tch of a match and considering that I conceded five goals last weekend after a 4 month absentee period. I was called up despite informing them that I was at a wedding the night before. I'm sh***ing a brick!!!

Happy days. We had an emphatic result yesterday and won 9-1.

I also managed to give away a penalty midway through the first half. Saved the spok-kick and they went onto miss a further penalty in the 2nd half. Their goal was probably goal of the game. Their unmarked forward fired into far corner of the net from about 12 yards. I even managed a wee bit of play outside the area on three occasions.
