I feel much sympathy for MH!

He can't say much at the moment on transfers but a delegation from Ewood is apparently on the way/gone to Italy to open talks with Mido. You know what its like things don't/can't happen over night in football - it just seems like nothing is happening...

Interesting bells saying "I owe you so much" - ha!

Would he have said that about any club he was at "would'nt have mattered he would have left to join Liverpool", bet if he was at Chelsea he would'nt have left. But then again he is'nt good enough for Chelsea to have activated his flippin clause...:lol:

The LET's coverage of the Bellamy situation over the last 10-14 days has been laughable. Whilst Andy Neild mused over who we were going to sign to play alongside CB next season, we had to rely on the National broadsheets to keep us informed as to what was really going on with Bellamy's impending exit - which they did with great clarity and detail.

However you can't blame the LET for what Bellamy said in February - the "is there isn't there a clause" debate has been at the forefront of everyone's mind all season. And they presumably weren't to know that Bellamy was basically going to lie through his teeth. The only circumstances in which the article shouldn't have been printed were if the LET knew what Bellamy was saying was incorrect.

From Bellamy's point of view I still don't think admitting there was a clause was a viable option.

Although perhaps the best possible answer would have been. "Yes there is a clause, because obviously I want to ply my trade at the highest possible level. (Champions League) Rovers fans can rest assured though that we are doing everything possible this season to ensure that I will achieve my ambition at this club next season!."

Hmmm............not bad. Max Clifford eat your heart out!.

Revidge, I would have to disagree with you on that one.

With regards to the article in February about 'I'm here for the long haul', from Bellamy. He would have said that at the moment and time, where he probably didn't expect as much interest as he did over the last 7-8 weeks AND the fact if it was printed then it would have looked as though he wanted to jump ship if he confirmed this!!!. With that you are trying to say that the LET shouldn't have printed the article, but is this not a way to ward off any interest/suggestion that he has a clause in the contract??

With the suggestion that LET have concentrated on a partner for Craig Bellamy over the last few weeks is not overly true. If Bellamy was at Ewood or not, Rovers would have needed a target man upfront because of the loss of Dickov and quite simply that 'Shefki the Farmer' is not capable of our main starting role as a target man up front, SO IN FACT WE DO NEED ONE.

Now that Craig has left, WE NOW NEED A STRIKER TO FILL HS VOID. Hence we certainly need two strikers, one of which the LET had already confirmed. I was capable to tell you in the Woodlands after the City game, that Bellars said he would find it difficult to turn down a 'so-called' big club offer due to a clause in his contract, but what is the point in printing that, as it would not do the club any favours, as his value would not have increased and why publicise the fact that he can leave for £6.5 million??? We would have only been shooting ourselves in the foot to know this internal information.

So IF we sign Mido for £3 million do you want us to confirm that he also has a clause for £6million, or indeed leave it until interest hots up after two seasons and leave it to a club to make an offer of £8-9 million+ and it's their fault if they pay the real market value price and not the price in his clause. So as a fan would you be really disappointed not to know if he has a clause in his contract and leave the club £5 million + richer off, instead for you or all the football world to learn of a clause?

At the end of the day i agree with 'AlanK', when he said Bellamy was proessional in the way he handled all this over the last few months. It's really unfortunate that he has left, but he's now gone and we have to concentrate on life without Bellamy AND PLEASE PUT AN END TO THIS TOPIC!!!

CRAIG YOU'VE CAUSED MORE PROBLEMS NOW YOU LEFT, INSTEAD OF WHEN YOU WERE AT THE CLUB, GOOD LUCK!!

So Revidge who do think we should sign for our forward roles?

I'm intrigued to hear of your

I seem to recalled that CB undertook the interview so that he could put to rest the whole question of the clause. If that is so that makes what he stated and what happened all the worse.

AS for only getting 6.5 mill well we only paid about 4mill for him, so in the whole rovers gained by having a top class striker and CB gained by being in the shop window.

new players, while for one I have no idea who he will get, however the money needs to be spent wisely and unlike in our recent past, I think that it will be. Also this will give our home grown forwards a chance too.

As for going down, if rovers brough in no one with the playesr that we have now we would not go down. so the future is not all gloom in fact far from it

He lied and used rovers as a stepping stone, I hope that stone gets tied to his foot and he gets trown to sea...

As Rovers was the stone......

Meaning you wanna throw rovers on the sea, then? :o

jk, see your point :D

Whether he lied or didn't lie, he wouldn't be here today. And as many have said before me, if he had confirmed the existence of a release clause he'd have been slated for agitating for a move.

Bellamy's gone. Rovers made a profit. He scored goals and helped Rovers to a higher finish than they could have otherwise hoped for. Those of you who are wishing for his death are out of touch and out of hand. Did you feel the same way when Sav came?

The man was never long for this place. Now let's bring in two more who want to play in Europe and can score goals. Blackburn will always be a building team, it's just the reality. Enjoy the good times the big players give you before they realize they're too big for our little town club.

He lied and used rovers as a stepping stone,

Better than not having used us as a stepping stone Krislu! There is an old English saying that is very apt here "It's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all". Think about it :rover:

Lets hope that next close season we find out that Defoe and RvN did exactly the same! :tu:

Whats this about Nugent?

Strong reports linking us with Nugent as a replacement for Bellamy.

I wouldn't call him a 'replacement', but what an outstanding talent the man has. Watched a few of Preston's games and the man has the ability to turn games on their head. One of the best strikers of a ball.

My only concern, is the 2 lads, Gally and Derbyshire who were shipped out on loan for experience and done fantastically well, is there going to be a chance in the coming season for them. Suppose we'll find out soon when they play in the pre-season games.

But we cannot afford good proven strikers. And even then, that isn't to say that they will not fail just as badly as a talented youngster. Nugent isn't just another young player either, by all accounts he is looking very impressive already.

Look at Darren Bent - played for a mid table championship team and now look at him.

There is no harm in bringing in some experienced players along with some young talent. I doubt Nugent would be our main signing.

Nugent looking impressive?!?!

I work in Preston, and every North Ender I know is actually mocking as we are rumoured to be looking at paying £4m for him.

That would be bad. Very very bad.

Does anybody really believe that Sparky would sign a completely unproven youngster like Nugent as a direct replacement for Bellamy. Come on people, get real. IF we are in for Nugent it will be as a support striker only and one to develop for the near future; in other words an investment, and one that will NOT happen at all unless MH and his staff think it is the right course to take!

Nugent would do a job. Unproven? If all clubs had this policy no youth player would have a chance. In fact some clubs do this and end up buying overpriced players who come for a pay day as they don't have to prove themselves.

Not a chance will we be paying £4million for him.

I reckon something along the line of £2 million with an additional payment of around £1.5 million if he gets 40 league goals in 3 seasons with Rovers. Certainly not the replacement for Bellamy, but a useful addition to the squad if he's signed.

How about Jimmy Flloyd anyone?

Correct.

Rovers can't afford to gamble on strikers. We need PROVEN players.

Like who? Proven strikers at this level cost a fortune. We have to gamble at least a little if we are going to bring a couple in.

Also, as good as Bellamy was we should remember that we finished sixth while he only started 22 league games for us. Although he'll be difficult to replace and was our best player it's not as if we were a one-man team (as some sources liked to suggest).

I'd not want the club to pay 4million for Nugent but we should be looking at young prospects who can be brought on by the club. It means if we do sell them we at least get money to buy replacements. Or we can go and buy the likes of Andy Cole who, although quality, will mean 20million or so spent by the club and nothing in return when they leave to replace them.

A mix of youth and experience could be the way to go - one more established striker paired with a young prospect. We had this when Cole and Stead were hitting it off...unfortunately all that promise lead to nothing but it was an exciting few months nonetheless. :tu:

FLB - we haven't only lost Bellamy, we have lost THREE strikers. When Bellamy didn't play, at least we had options.

What's all this talk about us not being able to afford proven strikers? We've done OK in the past.

jimmy floyd would be a good short term option. cheap, experienced and scores a few. only hitch might be his wages though.

nugent has promise but like jansenpresty said we've already got derbyshire and gally there.

really we need to find another 25 year old with a point to prove. someone who needs a challenge. unfortunately there aren't many of them around. one option is mccarthy but he is unproven over here and any deal seems miles away anyway. so what about a cheeky bid for louis saha? not impossible and i'm sure he'd like a first team run. any ideas?
