Regardless of what comes out of his gob, or what he has or hasn't done for Liverpool, Bellamy's performance on the pitch v Cyprus was a pleasure to behold.

Every time the ball went forward in his direction I still felt a spine tingling chill of anticipation.

And it was only Wales, not Rovers.

know what you mean.. such a great player to watch.

would have loved to have seen him up front with benni!

So to all of you at the beginning of this thread who believed the club and hughes got it wrong read below.

Mark Hughes still feels aggrieved at the contract clause that resulted in Craig Bellamy's summer move to Liverpool ahead of his Blackburn's trip to Anfield in the Premiership this weekend.

Wales striker Bellamy quit Ewood Park for Merseyside only a year after joining Rovers from Newcastle United due to a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave if another club offered £6 million.

And Hughes, whose men have won each of their last four matches in all competitions, said: "Obviously Craig leaving was a blow to us when it happened. But if that clause had not been put in then he wouldn't have come and Craig would not have had a great season here.

"That's the situation we found ourselves in. To get a player of his quality, we had to make sure we did everything in our power.

"In doing so, we had to allow a clause we weren't too comfortable with. We hoped it wouldn't be invoked, but unfortunately it was."

Hughes, however, has nothing but praise for Bellamy, who was Rovers' player-of-the-season last year, scoring 17 goals as they finished sixth in the Premiership.

He added of the striker, who was handed the Wales captaincy in the absence of Ryan Giggs last week: "I was extremely pleased with the way he conducted himself here and the way he played for the team.

"I know in recent weeks he has had a little bit of criticism, with some people trying to say he was a problem for me, but that was not the case. Every day in training he was excellent, always looking to improve himself."

Bellamy has only managed to hit the back of the net once for Liverpool, on his debut against Maccabi Haifa in their Champions League qualifier at Anfield in August.

  • 4 weeks later...

Extraordinary penalty miss by Bellamy tonight.

He did what many see as cheating - pausing during his run up to see which way the keeper would go - but then remarkably placed the ball tamely into the welcoming arms of Maik Taylor. Bellamy's kick was just off centre to the keepers left, but it was so crap an effort that Taylor would have saved with his legs if he'd gone the other way.

Moments later Bellamy missed the games best chance from open play off a Zenden cross - and it was a really terrible miss.

A few weeks ago and the prevailing opinion on this board was that we didn't need Craig Bellamy back. Benni was putting them away, and our league form was good. 3 PL defeats later and opinions may have changed.

Personally I wouldn't want the guy back. If he hasn't got the mental strength to deal with being 4th choice with them, he's no use to us. And Liverpool won't give him away. He chose his own nightmare. We've moved on.

well said tris buddy, here he was a big fish in a small pond who enjoyed a great season under hughes and co's management and now with the scousers who robbed him from us, he hasn't shown nothing from last season!!

i'd still take him back though, form is temporary, class is permanent. benni and bellamy would be a dream!

So hypothetically, you wouldnt have wanted shearer back? For me i would be delighted if bell came back, though i doubt pool will want to sell him. Should there even be a 10% chance of them wanting to sell him, we should get noses in there immediately. It would even mean i can bring last year's shirt out of storage and wear it again without ridicule. lol.

I can't believe your saying you won't have Bellers back he changed our season last year, and in my eyes he was probabley the best CF who has played in the Blue & white strip apart from Shearer

I can't see Liverpool getting rid of him anyway

I'd have Bellamy back in a heartbeat. With him in the side I always felt we could nick a goal at any time in a momentary flash of brilliance or pace. Now, well you all know.

Why?

He's a one season wonder and Hughes was right to let him go.

Rovers resurrected his career and his gratitude was to ###### off to Liverpool when they came sniffing.

Have him back? No way.

no loyalty in football, so why people still expect it is beyond me.

no way is bellamy a one season wonder. He was excellent at newcastle - ask any of their fans how much they missed him ON the pitch.

he would make our squad infinitely stronger, but it just aint gonna happen. He think he will come good at liverpool.

you have such a short memory, i bet you are one of the idiots who called Shearer judus when he left us. Bellers has supported Liverpool all his life and don't blame him taken up the chance to join his beloved liverpool.

Bellers did great things for us last season and was said to leave to us and has graet respect for Blackburn Rovers, if any other club apart from Liverpool came in for him he would still be at Ewood now.

He think he may.

But the little sh.it got turfed out of Newcastle into the Sunday Scottish League.

Along we came rescuing him from his Scottish experience and where's the gratitude?

hughes didn't exactly let him go did he, contract clauses and all that ###### and we done everything possible to persuade him to stay and offered a much better contract than the scousers.

he helped us get into europe, great memories and we made a profit from the sale, time to move on.

Bellers isn't fit to wipe Shearer's arse.

Have you heard of the spellchecker function btw?

Sorry mate but I don't subscribe to all the glossing over of events that happen.

Sorry but I'm glad to see him failing at Liverpool so far.

i think all or most of the rovers fans are, his goal against us wound me up a bit but we still got a point a anfield anyway.

i'm just waiting for the lengthy lay off and hear all the scousers say what a waste of money and from what i've heard they are starting to say it already after his performance lastnight.

Last season he was a flash in the pan. He notched up another club. He's up there with a pro golfer.

Try to read/type more slowly because from where I'm reading you are the one talking utter bulls...and your anger/hastiness to use the keyboard to reply is obvious.

As you say, this is a football forum and we all have differing opinions.

I bet you thought Davies was a god when we signed him?

Was Bellers not a good player at Newcastle then???????

Why does Mark Hughes speak so high about him then???

I think Davies was a complete waste of time and money

the only anger is with people like you who have so short little memory's and forget what ex players brought to the club

He probably wasnt born when we signed Davies ;)

yes i remember him quite well actually, not that i have good memories of him

We didn't 'rescue' him, about ten (at least) clubs in the premiership would have taken him for the fee we paid.

We got him because he had a good relationship with Hughes and were willing to put the clause in.

What I dislike about him is that he directly lied about the clause to the fans merely to make his life a little easier. Nonetheless he is a fantastic player and there is absolutely no doubt that Hughes would take him back if that was an option, and I support that.

Hughes did not "let" him go. As for the rest, we have different opinions, I'll leave it at that.

Now that I did not like.
