vyeo Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 What I dislike about him is that he directly lied about the clause to the fans merely to make his life a little easier. Nonetheless he is a fantastic player and there is absolutely no doubt that Hughes would take him back if that was an option, and I support that. For me, there are lies and there are white lies, and Bellamy's 'lie' is to me, a white lie. Consider, if he had came out and said, 'Yes, there's a clause in my contract which allows me to leave for 6m to a champion's league club', then people would have immediately jumped on him saying, 'He's just using us as a stepping stone; what cheek to publicly flock himself around' etc. Even if he had said, 'I dont wish to comment on it', I'm sure there will still be people saying that's 'admission by silence', and he was still inviting suitors to come and get him. So for me, him coming out and overtly stating in the press that he did not have a clause was a 'white lie'. Yes, it might have been to prevent him from getting into any trouble with the fans/management, possibly both, but i think given the context, it was still the right thing to say. Of course, him saying that he was here for the long run can now be construed as a lie, but against, that's contextual. At that point in time, he was not going to know that 1.) cisse would break a leg (again) and 2.) that liverpool would come in for him. I actually believe that he was happy, and would have stayed had it not been liverpool coming in for him. Remember, we are Blackburn Rovers fans; he isn't. He's a professional, and when your boyhood team is going to pay you to play for them, and in the champion's league as well, is it not rational to go?

herbergeehh Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Good post, vyeo. REGARDLESS; I want Bellers to fail miserably, not just because he left us, but because he plays for Liverpool, who I detest. If I was present at Ewood against Liverpool, I would give him a round of applause when his name was called over the PA, and then treat him as any other player after that.
West Sussex Rover Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Maybe after a few more games like the one he had today when he was left on the bench he will be willing to come home. Rafa Benitez is a very similar manager to Souness and he will be looking for scapegoats. One thing i would ask is IF Bellamy was forced out of Anfield, does anyone think he would be willing to return home to Ewood?

West Sussex Rover Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Give us Bellers back and they can have Lucas. Dont say that grizfoot, im getting saliva on my keyboard from droowling. Heck!! they can have Todd, Matteo and Gray as well if they give back Bellers!!!
AxesFirstTouch Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Rafa Benitez is a very similar manager to Souness and he will be looking for scapegoats. You mean the same one who kept playing Morientas and Crouch last season despite them misfiring. The same manager who bench's his most onform striker Crouch this season for games? The only thing Rafa and Souness have in common are their strange selection policys.

And bringing in hasbeen players expecting them to perform there glory. They also both have a habbit of wasting vast amounts of money on missfiring strikers...
modes98 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 return home to Ewood He was only with us for a season. He doesn't have a home really. I can't see Bellers staying at pool to long, he just can't do it for the big clubs.

I can't see Bellers staying at pool to long, he just can't do it for the big clubs. Which is why he should have stayed! He could have helped make us a bigger club! I really think we could have been a force this season if we had Benni and Bellers up front, but our team had its heart ripped out when he left and we have no heartbeat anymore. We need a player of Bellers pace and character SOON...!
FourLaneBlue Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Which is why he should have stayed! He could have helped make us a bigger club! Yes but he never wanted to make us a bigger club as he just wanted to make himself a bigger player! Such is the mercenary nature of the vast majority of modern footballers. Or modern life even, after all, how many people work for the same company for most of their lives these days?

Thats probably how Hughes sees it to be honest but for me you should never directly lie to anybody least of all to the supporters who pay your wages. It is disresepectful and callous. If he had come out and been honest about the clause then I would have accepted that, as i think would most people.
Ricky Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I would have been far more miffed if he had come out in February and said "yep, I've got a clause, come and get me!!" Surely he was protecting the interests of the club by not releasing details of the clause at that time.
joey_big_nose Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I would have been far more miffed if he had come out in February and said "yep, I've got a clause, come and get me!!" Surely he was protecting the interests of the club by not releasing details of the clause at that time. Christ, I am sure every Premeirship manager knew he had a clause! The whole point of it was that he was using the club as a stepping stone. His agent would have made it abundantly clear to the big clubs that Craig was available for six million.
BuckyRover Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I agree with Ricky and the previous poster. What he said was the lesser of three evils. He couldn't say "yes there is a clause" or "no comment" because it would have looked like he engineered his move away. And he didn't do that

Surely he was protecting the interests of the club by not releasing details of the clause at that time. As Joey mentioned...do you seriously think the managers of the big Premiership clubs didn't know? It was just a way to calm the speculation in the papers and make him look good to the fans. There's no other reason that I can think of why he couldn't just have said that he wouldn't comment on contract matters but that he is very happy at Ewood...etc...etc...blah...blah Yes he could have said no comment. Did he engineer his move away? Let's just say his agent wouldn't have been ordered to stop it!
BuckyRover Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Just like if I played for Bolton, and Blackburn were in for me, I wouldn't instruct my agent to stop it.
FourLaneBlue Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Just like if I played for Bolton, and Blackburn were in for me, I wouldn't instruct my agent to stop it. Or any bigger team in Bellamy's case...or are we believing that bull about if it was any team but Liverpool he would have stayed at Ewood? I've no problem with him as he just improved his career as he saw it. Just find it funny that some are desperate not to accept that he used us as a stepping stone. He did and, for many players, that is what we are. If we don't like it then we should get in the Champions League as that is where any player with ambition ultimately wants to be.
philipl Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 In Bellar's case he's used us a stepping stone from career crisis to career crisis. He should have kept on the stepping stone- he'd be earning 50% more than he is now, be playing every week alongside one of the top strikers in the Prem and be scoring regularly. Instead he is benched at a club where the management doesn't know what it is doing.

gumboots Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Was stated quite clearly at the time that they weren't prepared to match what we were offering so he is on much less than he could have had at Rovers but not necessarily less than he was getting last season.
gazsimm Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 we need Bellers back a.s.a.p but i can't see liverpool getting rid of him that quickley maybe we could put a cheeky load bid in for him in January
Roar of the Rover Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Todays Telegraph mentions David Nugent, i reckon he'd be a great signing, he's young got pace and a top top finisher, JW's denied this story but he always does that.
