Am I alone in thinking Benni and Bellers would not gel at all? Benni is a poacher who scores mostly converting crosses in the 6 yard box, and very good at it he is too. He has zero assists so far this season. Bellers, as we know, demands much of his team mates so the site of Benni loafing around waiting for Bellers to tee him up could well result in Bellers unzipping the mashie-niblick once again, only this time halfway through a match.

Bellamy wouldn't come back unless the team was being built around him

The two of them couldn't be more different characters on the pitch therefore a combination of them might go either of two ways.

They might completely clash with each other on a personal level meaning the partnership may not be successful or Bellamy's exacting standards might mean that we get an extra 25 or 30% out of Benni in terms of his all round play.

At the end of the day if they are professional enough they should both appreciate playing with someone of suitable quality.

All hypothetical as it's probably a long shot CB will end up back here anyway.

Good luck with that one (not trying to be critical) Here's my thought, defenders will stand off Bellers leaing an extra yard or so of space so that they don't get done for pace. This might, just might work very well for Benni in terms of his inability to time the offside trap properly. It would give him that extra yard to work with and that will be enough for him to stay onside. I lot of Benni's calls were close. Other than that the defenders push up to get Benni offside and this works well for Bellers getting in behind.

Tend to agree with Rev though, it's a bit of a pipe dream.

I don't really want him back. It's nothing against his football talents, which we all saw what he can do, but it just wouldn't be right. We give him a chance, he gets highly praised, buggers off to his dream team and plays in the big games, and now that Pool want someone else he'd come back to play for "little Rovers" again? We can't continue being a charity case if we want to progress as a club.

Lucas Neill lied and thought he was the mutt's nuts conveniently forgetting at least 4 yaers of sh1te.

Neither accusations can be levelled at Craig Bellamy,

Pmsl. Craig Bellamy didn't lie and doesn't think he's the mutts nutts.

(Not that I wouldn't have him back)

Finally the voice of reason. Thankyou mr. E.

Have you all forgotten what he did the minute a better offer came along? Who's to say he wont do it again? He's ditched us once and we're ready to let him do exactly the same again.

Not only that but we seem to be willing to pay more than we sold him for just a year ago! (and sell on good players to do it?) Well I am sure Hughes has more sense than that.

Is there actually any definite link between him and Rovers? I haven't checked every page of this thread but I don't recall any authoritative source saying we're going to sign him or Liverpool are going to sell him. Is it just us on this messageboard and a bit of wishful thinking?

Football is now a game of hired hands (or feet).

Players like Bellamy will play one season at one club, another elsewhere etc.

The relevant question to be asked is, if Rovers have £8m to spend on a striker this summer, should it go on

a) Craig Bellamy

B) b ) a potential Grabbi mk 2

c) Two Jason Roberts/Midos

I think the answer is a no brainer.

What about putting in an 8 million pound bid for defoe first and see what happens there? Or even 8 million for Bent or Ashton (good medical required). I think there will be a few very good strikers available for the right money this season depending on relegation and where other teams decide to focus.

please tell me what lies Lucas Neill told us? I'm sick of all the idiots on this message board that claims Neill lied to the fans!

He might well do, but is that not what the contract negotiators get paid to do?

eg....If Rovers got Bellamy for £8m, had a fantastic season & finished in a champs league/Euro place (or even won something!! :o ) then he moved on for £10m or more......Is that not good business??

Obviously it would be better if players like Bellamy stayed & helped build a stronger team, but only the REALLY BIG clubs can hold on to great players these days.

Rovers (& their fans <_< ) have to look at it realistically.

Stop being so picky I say. Gamst is possibly among the top 3 free kick takers in the league, takes all our set pieces, is worth at least 5 goals a season from midfield (although he should be getting into double figures), works VERY HARD for a winger, and he has shown his work ethic many many times this season, more times than not, and we shouldnt consider selling him. Id have Bellers back FOR SURE, but I dont want to lose Gamst. We wont truly appreciate his worth until he isnt playing for us. Im sure of that.

Well, if you want a replacement with better free kicks, Nakamura wouldn't be a bad choice. And he can get corners on to Celtic players heads, rather than into the opposing goalie's hands.

I rate Bellamy higher than Defoe, Ashton and Bent.

Sure, he's better than those. But Defoe is 24, Ashton 23, and Bent 23. Bellamy is 27. Although there is more to buying players than age, it's pretty important. Was Bellamy as good as he is now three or four years ago? No, he was, at best, in a similar band to those players at present. And we would get more time out of them, and the chance for a vastly inflated re-sale if we do lose them. If we could get Defoe at the same price as Bellamy, I'd be probably equally content to get either. Ashton is quality too, but the injury might have taken it out of him. I feel Bent is overrated.

Yes but as we all know, players such as those who you mentioned who havent yet reached their peak will only use us as a stepping stone, and leave after 1 or 2 years, especially when theres so much hype around them.

BUT if Bellamy returns, at his age, and the fact that he has had his flirt in the sun with Liverpool, it may mean that he will stay with us for 3 or 4 years and possibly spend the best years of his career with us.
