[Archived] Bellamy

Recommended Posts

IF Reid, Ooijer and Savage all return to the forms they were in before injury then I wouldnt think it will be a problem to spend 8 million on Bellamy, a proven player at the highest level, who will add the one thing this team lacks more than anything, pace.

Agreed there. It's about time we focused on buying first team players! Sav and Reid would help in the midfield too. To be honest if we only bought Bellamy and got everyone fit, whilst selling the likes of Gray and Jeffers, then I think we'd have an awesome team next year.

Bellamy would be the answer to get us going. If you look back at the games where Benni has been quiet you get the feeling that maybe Bellamy would give him the yard he needs to score. I think Roberts' form lately has helped Benni in the same way.

Looked on newsnow and a report suggests we fancy Whittaker from Hibs. Interesting that we might go for a right back... :brfc:

Yeah i saw that on tribal football. Littered with mistakes.

From whats been said around here we offered him more than that to stay, whereas he turned that down for a wage around 30-35k at liverpool. The way the clause bit is written is not very good either, it fails to make clear it was CL clubs. Equally it only seems to state that villa want him and not as the title suggests that they have his signing sealed.

The pull of working with Martin O'Neill obviously wasn't that great for him for he would have taken the drop in level and played for him in the scottish league.

Actually it does say in the article 'O'Neill has won the race for Bellamy'. But the other criticisms are perfectly valid- they don't seem to even know that we reputedly offered him 60k to stay on (By the way Den, you ask how anyone knows what we offered Bellers...well I can't be a hundred percent sure, but I think I recall Bellamy himself saying he could have stayed at Rovers for more money- this doesn't tell us the amount but still).

I'm perplexed if Bellamy does credit O'Neill with revitalising his career if that's true. Surely Hughes has had a much bigger say than a six month loan period in a crap league. He had easily his best season with us, and earned his dream move.

As to potential opposition for his signature, IF he is leaving...Newcastle already have Martins and Owen to compete with, and it is of course old territory and somewhere he probably isn't welcomed by the fans, not to mention a dramatically underachieving club...Tottenham have three top class strikers, and another decent one...Everton look a possibility if they make Europe, but we've heard nothing about them being interested and I can't see them going for it since they already have Johnson who provides a similar aspect of play...Bolton have just lost their manager, who was their main appeal, have a similar fan base to us and by all accounts less resources...Reading I think we can just dismiss out of hand even if they make Europe...Portsmouth perhaps- a big cash injection lately, a respected manager, possible European qualification- but they already have Lua Lua for the pace play, even if Bellamy is undoubtedly better...I wouldn't be surprised if they moved for him though, and they might have a shot...and then there's Aston Villa. To my mind, it's close enough between us and Villa that the real clincher could be European football. It is imperative we seal that Intertoto spot (we ought to forget about automatic UEFA realistically), as it would give us a real edge in trying to resign Bellamy. IF he's leaving.

I think we also publicly said that we have offered Bellers the biggest wage package in our history to keep him here, which he rejected.

Yes, but I'm just replying to this:

yes we offered 60k, but he wanted the liverpool move because he does/used to support them.

It was reported in the press Den, which is the only recourse for information about wages that the players have. Come on, you must know that.

No way of knowing how accurate it is of course. But the only source.

Yeah I know Bryan. C'mon though, the way wages are made up nowadays with appearance money, win bonus's, placing bonus's, most are completely wild guesses.

So to say that Bellars was offered more money to stay at rovers is probably wide of the mark. He wouldn't know what he would earn himself - never mind us or the press knowing..

If Bellers is on appearance money this season he'll have made naff all then.................... ;)

By Premiership footballers standards that is.

Think if we are going to pay 8million for bellamy we could get better players for cheaper, Cisse myt be going for 3.5million for me he should be rovers top target amazing player and he would be our best player.

I'd definitely take Cissé at that price. He's bagged 10 goals since he returned to Marsielle's team in January after the injury. He didn't look great at Liverpool, but in fairness neither does Bellamy, so it's probably not a fair reflection of his ability.

I do think Bellamy is the better player as he adds link-up play at better finishing to his game, but I don't know if there's enough difference to justify paying £8 million instead of £3.5 million.

Is that because you want a player you can justifiably moan at for being lazy and totally up himself?

Not at all. He will say he has realised which is the better club and is returning to it :rover:

If he doesnt come back it will not be the end of the world....with the £8m or so it would cost to buy him Hughes will get someone else who could score us 20 goals a season.

How much will Ashton cost if WHam go down?

Young English prolific scorer, a site more than 8 mil I think. Assuming he can prove his fitness.

It would be more believable if he was to say Burnley are the team he hates most so the best place to play would be Blackburn.

It's all coming together nicely :P

Like ADB said, don't get carried away. There's nothing in that article that hasn't already been discussed in this thread, barring the mysterious 'sources on Merseyside believe' thing (didn't one of our Liverpool-based members speculate it was damage limitation? That would qualify for that). However ADB, he'd be a moron to sign a new deal right now, unless it's substantially higher pay.

With the money that liverpool will have to spend this summer you can bet that bellamy will leave, along with most of the other rabble of strikers. I wouldn't be suprised to see Darren Bent, Defoe or Ashton sign and then you'll get a couple of big european strikers in to boot. They won't win the title but it may make them feel a bit better for a while.
