Recommended Posts

I respect Bellamy for his decisions last summer. Like Shearer when he left, there was only ONE place he would go, hence the "I'm happy and don't want to go". He was hardly going to say "except for Liverpool". If the Buy Back Clause rumour is true, it's likely that Bellamy wanted it inserted as Rovers had no leverage at all.

So he tried the grass on the other side of the fence, it turned out to be thistles. Fine. If he leaves Liverpool, and wants to come back here, I for one will be a happy man. Because every player has one club that above any other, they want to play for. It's only right that if the opportunity comes along, that they take it. Bellamy has stated time and time again that he enjoyed his time at Blackburn, he was terrific for us, and he encouraged Steven Warnock to make the switch, and he's never, ever talked us down. Fair play to the man.

I think the rule is a player can't play for more than 2 teams in any given season so I think buying him in Jan would have been ok. But don't quote me on that.

Is this rule not now rewritten ? I am sure that it may have been amended due to the restriction of trade scenario !

I think Liverpool's transfer policy could be abouts to change if you read this article: http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...s+major+changes Benitez says

"I have been told by the new owners that they will back my plans," he said. "But when you look at the champions Manchester United spending £20million on a midfield player, and we have been paying just £8 to £9m for our strikers, you know what must be done.

"We must spend big and spend now. Our fans know what we need to do and so do I. We need to pay the price needed for each position"

I dont think we'll just see them picking up players on the cheap so if they wanted MGP then they will have the money to spend on him...

If they (FIFA/UEFA/the FA) were concerned about restrictions of trade they'd scrap the tomfoolery that is the transfer window.

I'm pretty sure it was still in place but bent to allow Mascherano to sign for Liverpool.

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I thought about this yesterday. Whilst we could almost certainly have never forced a clause, and a clause within a clause sounds a bit unlikely, Bellamy might have asked Liverpool for a buy-back clause, knowing that we could never be paying in the region of 12 million to get him back to where everything was working great for him. Since Bellers was turning down a 60k a week offer here supposedly, to go there for much less, they might well have been convinced to allow it I suppose.

Owen has a £9m release clause in his contract with Newcastle. Liverpool and Man Ure are the only clubs that he would be interested in going to. Liverpool could pick themselves up a nice little striker for the £9m that they appear to think is peanuts.

We can then have Bellamy back.

Read this!

Can you believe the audacity to ask double what they paid for him after a such a year as he has had?I guess it doesn't really mean anything that number of £12m because something is only worth what someone will pay for it and Craig would be welcome but not for that amount.will they get it?I don't know.If they did I beleive it would be a highly incentivised contract ie £7m base price rising depending on Craig achieving certain parameters, games played goals scored, etc.having said that if our team were intact from this year minus the injuries AND you add a HEALTHY Bellamy for 39 EPL games 7 Fa cup matches 11 Uefa matches and 6 LC games and get something tangible from them,(whew take a breath) then he would be worth that asking price but again that is so much blue sky.If 'pool won't budge off that number then they really didn't want to sell him anyway.I would love to see him and benni and derbs and JR as our strike force though.

No surprise really : Liverpool know Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, etc have new owners with vast amounts of money to spend. Unless Bellamy has some overwhelming desire to return to Rovers (which I doubt), he will be joining one of the nouveau riche clubs on a vast salary this summer.

Liverpool = Scum

They've got a nerve trying to suck 12m out of someone for Bellamy.

The only way we'll see him in a Rovers shirt again is if MGP goes the other way and that would be an absolute disaster.

Forget it!

Batten down the hatchs because Priority 1 is keeping the likes of Lpool and Chelsea away from Gamst and Benni.

MH has proved repeatedly he knows a bargain when he sees one and I'll back him to find a couple more!!!

Thats easy that one.

Both players with plenty of contract time to run.

Price tag : Benni £18m - Second highest goal scorer in the Prem

MGP £25m -The going rate for quility MF (to quote RB)

Over to you LFC

Bellamy said after the Wales game 'it's rare I get 90 minutes'...tiny little hint there that he isn't so chuffed with that. If Pool want 12 million, would imagine we have no chance. 7 million plus potential incentives maybe, or perhaps the realistic end figure would be 10 million, which MAYBE we would stretch to.

Just kicking a few thoughts around, and not saying this is the best solution at all, but what if we can ascertain that Bellars is willing to come back to us, and 'Pool are holding out for £12m. Let's say we offer them Benni in exchange instead (valuing him at £12m too). If this happens that would leave us with Bellars to play alongside JR/Nonda/Derbs/Jeffers/ Gally, and could well turn out to be a very good option. Especially if we can hold on to both MGP and Bentley, and with a "new midfield" of Sav and Reid and a fit again Dunny........!!! Kind of gets your juices flowing at the very thought; what do you people think?

Just consider also that when we had Bellars with us we qualified for EUAFA without the need for Intertoto, and without the services of Benni either. Since then we have strengthened the defence considerably overall (Ooijer,Samba, Warnock, Berner) and midfield too if you consider that both MGP and Bentley are much better players now than they were then, and we have the possibility of Dunny becoming the player he once was as well.

Nah. The difference between our UEFA Cup qualification and Intertoto is down to wayyyyy more than just having Benni rather than Bellers. Look at Everton- did better after selling Rooney. Doesn't mean squat. Our main problem this season has been strings of injuries, a lot of bad luck, two cup runs, and the strengthening of other teams in the league. Swapping a consistent goalscorer for one who has a tendency to be injured isn't the greatest business in my books.

Just read something on wikipedia that I wasn't aware of that amused me. Apparently when Newcastle tried to sell Bellamy to Birmingham he said 'I am Craig Bellamy and I don't sign for sh1t clubs'

Firstly, the 12m quoted by Liverpool is obviously purely for bargaining purposes, they don't want to lose any money on Bellamy which means a sale of around 8m (taking into account transfer fee, wages and signing on fee).

I'm sure they expect Rovers to come in with the same offer as we sold them Bellamy for last year, in which case they are in a position to laugh it off and look for around 10m. Hopefully we can come to a conclusion somewere between 7 and 8.

Is it confirmed who we are fighting against for his signature? I've read that Villa are definately interested and may well tempt him there, but is it just us two?

Apologies for being out of touch, they don't get all that much transfer gossip over in Laos (name dropping, i know)

With the current economical strenghtening in several clubs in the Premiership, I'm sure Liverpool can get £9-10m by holding on to Bellamy a few more weeks. Clubs like West Ham, Aston Villa and Portsmouth have money to spend, but very few of the proven Premiership strikers are available - which makes players like Bellamy attractive. It makes it harder for clubs like Blackburn to spend hard-earned money, but looking abroad I'm sure we can find suitable players.

If thats kosher then its a good reason to leave him well alone! <_<

Two things in all this.....

1. Publicising that Hughes giving Williams a 'shopping list' including Bellamy and Koumas is primarily nothing more than a tactic to boost ST sales imo.

2. We must not entertain the sale of Macarthy if there is to be one until Bellamy / Berbatov / Bent etc are sold. They will put a comparison in this summers merry go round. To (under) sell Benni and regret it within a matter of weeks would be awful not to mention very damaging.
