Better to spend money on the likes of Berner,Jeffers and Henchoz

Well said! Matty was pure class. Even mugs over at Crystal Palace call him a legend...and he was barely there. He had a bit of magic in that left foot that could've taken him to the top. But I'm pretty sure he let his girlfriend (at the time) wear his helmet that day...and the rest is sad, sad history.

Come on Gordon!

Although Matty's time with us was brief, we should remember that the biggest victim of his accident was infact himself! Lets focus on the good stuff - instinctive finishing the kind that we have NEVER seen from anyone else in a rovers shirt - AS may have been more powerful and consistent but MJ was truley enigmatic and magical. The way he could fall on his knees, twist rise shoot and score was bloody ridiculous. Yes I would have loved some more years of matty magic but thanks for the memories!!

I think 'waste' is a valid term and from all angles too.

btw Never mind the incomparable Shearer in that statement but I could bring in comparisons with Benni Mac / Bellamy here. Anyway I assume you never saw Andy McEvoy?

The incomparable Andy McEvoy. I never saw anyone like him. Deadly, absolutely deadly.

Probably the best 'one on one' finishers I have ever seen. Andy and Fred Pickering were brilliant together and with Bryan Douglas behind them deadly!

As I was waiting at a local station to catch a train to meet my wife before going into Manchester one evening last week and I was suffering from the freezing weather, I thought back to the era of station waiting rooms with coal fires in full blaze.

Ah, Andy, Tommy, the good old days!!

I can't understand why we can't say he wasted a large part of his career, 'cos he bloody did!

That doesn't take away the marvellous memories. I thought he was a great player, and teh way his career went was a crying shame.

I still blame Erikkson.

Matt Jansen did something stupid by climbing on that bike that day in Rome. Im sure he reminds himself everyday of how stupid he was. He wore a crash helmet that in effect saved his life. I never forgave Souness for allowing his team to cycle on the roads of whichever foreign climate they went to almost a year later, which resulted in Tugay falling off/getting knocked off his bike. Obviously lessons wherent learned.

Ill never forget what Jansen did for us. And he truely was a legend. He is still remebered fondly in the hearts of Rovers fans. And i hope that whatever he goes on to do he has great success at it.

Good Luck Matt and thanks for the memories.

Another possible bit of Jansen info.

There are quite a few rumours circulating around here that he is going to be Joining Hereford United in January.

Initially it seemed a bit of a strange one but I know that his wife originates from the area and he has spent quite a bit of time down here in the past.

I'll keep you up to date if I hear any further developments.

I'd be suprised to see any sort of pro football working out for Matt Ricky. I would imagine that in the last 3 years or so just about every team in the land has considered signing him in the hope that a bit of time and R&R would make him into a top player again. I think he must have accepted the sad fact that it will never ever happen again for him and I suggest we do too. He should seek an alternative career. He's supposedly a bright lad but from the rumours we hear on-the-spot football commentating / punditry might be too much for him, but maybe sports journalism / reporting might be his next best option if he wants to stay in the game and trade on his name in some way. Maybe the FA / PFA might use him in some way too?

I just wonder if he could still do a job for a lower league team drog. I know he will never set the world alite but in Division 2 he ould be a useful signing. We had a couple of brief glimpses of what he could do after the accident. Villa in the Cup and Pompey for Hughes' first league victory.

He will never play at the top level again, I think everyone accepts that.

When I said 'pro' I meant any club anywhere that pays their players. He's reputedly been training at Carlisle his home town club but nothing has come of it. Who knows why he's not been playing? Maybe his salary expectations are too high for small clubs to take a gamble or maybe he is simply 'not right' anymore...... as in not fit for the purpose mentally. Alternatively it might be possible that if he turns out for another club and is deemed fit to play that any pension / financial benefit either personal or PFA based which he may be qualified for will be re-assessed? One thing is for sure I think we should all simply move on.

I hope it works out for him if it happens... he deserves a lucky break.
