Billy Castell Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I can see you can edit bits of other people's articles, but how do you post your own stuff? And whats the name of that site that lists all the appearences and goals for players? Is it Soccerbase.com or something?

LeChuck Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I'm not sure this is the proper way of starting an article, but it works for me; As an example, the address for Mark Hughes' Wikipedia is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Hughes. To start your own (lets say Billy Castell, assuming it doesn't exist) just change the address to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Castell. You'll get a page saying the article doesn't exist, then it gives you an option to create it.
Glenn Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 As somebody that spends more time improving existing articles rather than adding new ones, please please please please please read their stuff on how/what/when to edit/update pages before adding anything new. May I recommend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Pol..._and_guidelines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Five_pillars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Simplified_Ruleset
Billy Castell Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 Thanks. I was going to do a silly one about Steven Segal, but someone has already done an article, and I don't have the heart to make up a whole new biography involving him being the Governor of Bermuda in 1948, and winning the knitting world cup in 1977. I assume you can just alter an article on a whim, and not need the original authors prior permission. I'll post my efforts when I get round to it.
Jimmy Jupiter Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Thanks. Just what Wikipedia needs, another comedian editing the articles to include "funny" bits and generally spoiling what could be one of the best internet resources out there.
T4E Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I think defacing Wikipedia once or twice in the guise of humour is just something most people need to get of their system before they start using it for its intended purpose.
ihateburnley Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 And whats the name of that site that lists all the appearences and goals for players? Is it Soccerbase.com or something? You're on the Internet and you have logged onto this forum, started a new topic, typed your post, confirmed and then waited for a response? Why didn't you just put www.soccerbase.com in the address bar? But yes, you are correct. Some people.
Billy Castell Posted May 12, 2007 Author Posted May 12, 2007 Well it looked different to the only other time I have used it, which was about two years ago. Anyway, as for Jimmy Jupiter's comment, I was going to pick a person who isn't on there, and not ruin someone else's work. So if you wanted, you sensible people could edit to make it normal. I wouldn't p_ss on someone's article as they have done some sort research into the topic. The internet is so full of lies, conspiricy theories and general crap one silly article isn't going to harm anyone. Look at it this way, how many sites spout off anti-Semitic rubbish which perpetuates the Jewish world conspiricy stuff? anyone can read it, but just because its there it doesn't mean its true. As for Wikipedia itself, perhaps it should tighten up its rules whereby you somehow seek permission to alter articles prior to publication.

So if you wanted, you sensible people could edit to make it normal. I really doubt you'll find someone who doesn't have a Wikipedia who is famous enough to do a joke profile about.
