Exiled_Rover Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Huddlestone would be a decent buy if Spurs would let him go. We need a player like Carrick or Huddlestone for abit of quality in midfield to complement our other more hard working midfielders. That Elano city got would have been a quality signing if we found him before city. That Alfonso Alves from Herenvees will also be a good player in the prem i reckon. Think Middlesborough are interested. We have enough forwards though. Heard somewhere that Beletti of Barcelona is interesting some premiership clubs. Hes the right back that scored against Arsenal in the CL. Might be a decent option. No chance of getting Huddlestone, but he's a quality player.

brfcs5359 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 The two players I would sign are Pablo Aimar from Zaragoza £9m and Kevin Nolan from Bolton £4m ok a lot of money, but with £4m from Roberts we should be able to afford this pair. We'd have an awesome midfield.
USRoverME Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Just saw on BBC that Steadinho might be a target for Derby....
tchocky Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Quoted from the BBC gossip page: "Red Star Belgrade midfielder Ognjen Koroman says Alan Hutton is in for the beating of his life in the second leg after the Rangers full-back complained of being constantly kicked in their Champions League qualifier. (Various) " I wonder if he's available? Can we sign him to a 1 game contract for our trip to the Emirates! Oh yeah I remember him when he was on loan down at Portsmouth to set the world alight - it was dark as the night the whole time he was there, metaphorically speaking of course....
tcj_jones Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Nolan would command upwards of £10 million in the current climate. He would probably be worth it, mind.
herbergeehh Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Nolan and Aimar? Replacing who? And who could Aimar play alongside in the Premiership, he'd need both Essien and Mascherano to give enough cover. For the record, I think Steven Reid is a better player than Kevin Nolan, injuryfree mind you,.
LWX Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 i wonder how far reid is from figuring at some point......
Daremz Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Benajoun already unhappy with his role at Anfield. I think he would be just the creative midfielder we need, really has class and vision. Just the signing we need to complete the squad and give me full faith in the season.

Just the signing we need to complete the squad and give me full faith in the season. I do find this one very odd. A couple of games I saw pre season he was linking up really well with Torres and it looked like they had been playing together for ages. Then season starts and he gets dropped. I cant see anywhere saying he is injured either. I have said all along anyway that too much money and too many players will kill Liverpool. He just dosnt know how to fit them all in.
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 imo we have plenty of creativity. What we need most is a deeper sitting midfield 'controller' in the mould of Tim Sherwood.

Benitez imo is a poor man manager and a de-motivator. Many of his players are too frequently reported as being unhappy. That cannot be good can it.
Cocker Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I see on Sky Sports this morning they are saying that West Ham will offer 10m for Diouf The world has truley gone mental
roversmum Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Yes! This brew of West Ham's will come to the boil before too long! Only snag is that the Trotters will pocket a nice bit of cash.........

USRoverME Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Somehwere in the back of my head I'm wondering if there's any chance Real turn around and sell Heinze to Liverpool... and if so, could the Mancs challenge it?
tcj_jones Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Real got a steal in Heinze. I think that's a great deal for them, he is undoubtedly a top quality player equally adept at centre back and left back. Heinze and Robben are two great purchases, although I'm surprised they paid so much for the latter. Nevertheless, if he regains his fitness, he will once more be one of the worlds top players.

Agreed, I can see Liverpool very much ending up like Chelsea last season, having a wealth of talent but not being able to fit them in to a formation will make them look very ordinary. Goes back to what Sparky was saying that he won't buy players unless they improve the first team, very very smart. Competition for places is good for squad players but quality players shouldn't fill a bench. I just don't understand why Manc sold Heinze, his kness must be shot, there just can't be any other reason why you would sell him yet offer Wes Brown an extension.

Simple he wanted to join Liverpool Popularity with United fans would be the same as Dunn trying to join the Dingles.
DanLad Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Simple he wanted to join Liverpool Popularity with United fans would be the same as Dunn trying to join the Dingles. No, you're not right. I think people would feel sorry for him as he'd have clearly lost his mind ;-)
Esulx Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Jose has told Glen Johnson he can leave Chelsea... what are people's thoughts about getting a "recognised" right back in the team? I have a feeling that Jose will put a ridiculously inflated price on Johnson's head though. Personally I'd rather keep Emo there as I think he came on in leaps and bounds last season in that position. I think the fact he used to play right wing helps Bents out loads, you saw that in the game against Arsenal rather than the game against Boro when Andre was there instead. We've got Emo at RB now... we know Andre and Zurab can play there too, and Reidy if necessary... any possible kids in the Reserves that could step up? I personally like the dynaics of the squad now... if we can keep them together when the transfer window shuts, I think we'll be more than ok if we perform as we did last Saturday.

Agreed on the dynamics and I actually like Emerton at RB, but still I'd like us to see to go for Rosenior or perhaps Johnson. Johnson will most probably choose a "bigger" team because his England international status, like Newcastle or West Ham, but I guess there's no harm in enquiring. I don't like the idea of having Ooijer, Zurab or Mokoena at RB, they lack the speed to compete against the wingers.

My impression of Johnsons is pretty much the same as Emerton. Great going forward, competent but not that good defensively, rubbish in the air. Only point in signing RB is if he was a great all round player like Warnock on the other side. But then he has played so little for Chelsea that maybe I have the wrong idea of him.
Oklahoma Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 It seems that Chelsea might loan Lassana Diarra. I think we should try to get him.

Given what nicko had posted about the coaching staff genuinely liking Tony Kane, I wonder if he could be in the mix as well? Can't say I've ever seen him play, but unlike the last three you mentioned, he's a legit fullback.
