Talk about ridiculous, West Ham are being linked to Roma's Mancini and Inter Milan's Adriano. Wasn't aware that Kieron Dyer broke his leg recently, but it's certainly a new chapter in the Haha-Your-Club-Are-Bound-To-Fail book about West Ham. 80k a week, was it? :D

The problem is, they are now capable of bringing really good players to their team, as long as the players' first motive is money - I believe both Mancini and Adriano are possibilities in that department. I think Mancini is a magnificent footballer, but I don't think he'll be a great success in the Premiership in the first place - his alleged (!) personality doesn't match, and considering he's a dribler who's bound to be hacked down aswell.......

In a club like West Ham, who will really struggle in the future if they can't trick themselves into the top four in spectacular manner, these players won't excell, they will most likely struggle like Mascherano, or at best be a good player in a sh|t team like Yakubu.

I don't usually like to see players get injured, but I have got to say; if West Ham get their big signings injured it is a blessing, not a curse.

You musn't have been watching the same Mascherano I was playing for Liverpool, probably Liverpool's best player in the last half of the season.

I hope they do sign Adriano and Mancini, with the attitudes and ego's they already have there they will be a club in disarray after three months and staring down the barrel of relegation.

A suprise end to the Anelka transfer talk

Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka has ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2011.

Anelka, 28, has been linked with a move away from the Reebok, with several Premier League clubs interested.

But he said: "I seem to have been linked with every club in the country of late, but my heart is with Bolton.

"I am very happy with my form, the club and the manager so signing a new contract was not a difficult decision."

French international Anelka joined the Trotters from Fenerbahce last summer for £8m, signing an initial four-year deal.

However, the much-travelled forward recently hinted he could leave if the club's poor start to the season continued.

Personally I think that is an ok fee. It certainly isn't horrible to bid that amount for a fairly youngish England international who has a good season of Premiership football behind him. I wouldn't want to see us pay that amount for him, but when you compare it to some transfers it would have actually been good business.

Nonsense. He's one of their top players. Had a good season in the Premiership. Contrast that with 6 million for Kenwyne Jones, recently converted to forward from centre half, Championship player. They'd be bloody gaumless to accept that.

My old mate John Madjeski is having a right laugh at Eggman's expense on this one. Has one more day to sit out the squeals from Shorey's agent and the I just hope he gets the result he wants on Saturday as well.

I wonder if he really will flush that Blackberry down the loo tomorrow?

I think we're saying the same thing. I wasn't saying that it was a good fee for Reading, the comment before mine said that the world had gone mad with someone bidding 4 million for him, I said that I thought that wasn't a ridiculous bid.

I suppose it depends on three factors really:

1) Is Hughes convinced that Benni McCarthy is going to perform this season? Or does he need options if he does not?

2) Is Rigters ready to take a place on the bench?

3) Do Sparky and Eddie think that Huddlestone (presuming that Spurs want to sell for a sensible amount of money, which has to be doubtful)can mature into a top performer who can realistically take the Tugay role?

The crucial one really is how Rigters is getting on. If he is showing real quality then we can sell Roberts and have four good options.

No real pressure though to be honest.

Well we know more about Ritgers now Eddie, he's just slotted in behind Gallager in the strikers pecking order, if Jeffers was still here he'd be behind him as well. It's hard to tell off the telly but did he touch the ball in the second half ! One for the long term future I think.

Riquelme to Everton

Yes, Richard who helpded me with the Everton preview text me just after midnight about this - he seemed very excited. Cahill, Arteta and Riquelme with Graveson behind them. Yak and Johnson up front - not bad really is it.

That's what I said last week. If Riquelme is prepared to play a very unfashionable club like Villareal and now apparently is interested in Everton, surely we should be trying to sign him. We all know that Hughes can spot a great bargin buy player, with Nelsen, Samba and Santa Cruz (so far) being the case. But class players like Riquelme don't come around too often, especially when they are interested in going to smaller teams. The money is probably there to spend and Hughes just hasn't, because the right player hasn't come along.

From the BBC's transfer deadline day roundup - obviously just speculation but an interesting one.

"There is a groundswell of opinion, from you on 606 and via 81111, that Jermain Defoe is going to Blackburn. He was at their Uefa Cup game last night according to Ian in York and various others"

What seems interesting about that is that several people seem to have seen him there rather than the usual one or two jokers. That said I would of imagined someone would have been on here saying they saw him by now. Or Nicko would have got a sniff.

Anyhow I can't see how we can be signing him unless McCarthy leaves. But then I think McCarthy might not be at Ewood come midnight tonight. Just a feeling.

Just to follow on from the BBC transfer deadline special- the following line says that

"I have it on good authority that Benni McCarthy is signing for Man Utd. Ask yourself why he was not playing last night? He wasn't even on the bench! Also did you see the reaction of Jason Roberts when he scored. No celebration, and when the final whistle went he went straight down the tunnel. He is upset as McCarthy is his best mate."

Personally, I think Roberts might be off for around £5 million, but he was annoyed because he wasn't getting decent service in particular from the left hand side (Time to drop MGP?) If he'd scored a couple, he might have been up for a starting place on Sunday.

Bit worried that McCarthy wasn't even on the bench last night, but Sparky must have been confident of progression against a distinctly third rate opposition and Roque was on the bench as well as Sir Matt.

Can't agree with that. Roque would have had a hat trick of headers last night. Our front two were very poor in the air. That's what I thought anyway.
