RoyRover Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I will be most surprised if McCarthy does leave. I didn't read much into the fact that he wasn't on the bench last night, just that he was being rested for the big game on Sunday. If he were to leave, then the reason his omission would be obvious. I'm not sure how to react to the rumours about Defoe. On the one hand I'm happy, because he is a quality striker. This would also mean that one of our strikers would leave and in my opinion that would be Roberts. But Defoe's presence would then push Matty Derbyshire and Maceo Ritgers down the pecking order and stunt their development. As some of you have said, it could also signal the departure of McCarthy, which I would not want. Defore would want to be playing all the time, because he has just been sitting on the bench at Spurs, so he wouldn't want to come here and do the same.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 We'd be foolish to sell either of Roberts and Mc Carthy so near the deadline, to sell them both would be utter madness ! We'd have a strike force of Santa Cruz and Derbyshire ( that's not too bad ) with Gallagher and Ritgers ( that's not too good ).
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I also meant to say that a swap between Mc Carthy and Defoe would be interesting, but I'm not sure where that leaves Derbyshire, him and Defoe are very similar players.
matt65 Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 couldnt spot this anywhere else, gally gone to north end on 6 month loan.
RoyRover Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I don't know if anyone has mentioned it on any other thread, but Paul Gallagher has left on loan for Preston according to the BBC teletext page. I think that this is a good move for him. He will be playing regularly and at a level where he will score goals consistently. Hughes obviously doesn't want to sell him and even though he doesn't seem him being a first team regular, he is a good backup player.

Eddie Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 By the way, the young midfielder Plessi who Liverpool signed earlier is a very good prospect, so keep an eye out for him. Could turn out to be a very good piece of business.
b12_simon Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Gally's gone on loan to PNE! I went to the Preston game with a nob-ender mate. After the game I told him they should go for Gally on loan. A case of life imitating post-match cobblers? Preston need a striker (the only club of the 92 not to score so far) and Gally needs games. I think it's a good deal for the player and both clubs.
Exiled_Rover Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Got to admit, I'm a little disappointed we didn't improve the centre of midfield, or sign someone to push Gamst.
Mozzer Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 i think we will do our spending in january, when hopefully the takeover is done, and were in a better position to attract players..
den Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Its it about time there was a new transfer thread to discuss rumours, comings and going etc anywho lots of clubs seem to be taking a shine to Roberts, not the best source, but theres a few rumours from different directions Roberts for La Liga?
