  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

I don't agree - he contributed to the downfall of West Ham by thinking he was better than he was - Capt Smug's (Pardew) right-hand man. Then he sulked, and didn't really fancy it when the going got tough. Billy big-shot if you ask me without the record to back it up...

You could level some of those accusations to Bellamy and Bentley if you ask me. One of Hughes' many strengths seems to be able to coach out those negative attributes.

The joy West Ham fans are expressing at Reo-Coker's exit seems pretty unrestrained. For what it is worth, I looked forwards to seeing his name on the West Ham team sheet against us with as much anticipation as I looked forwards to seeing Christian Daily's.

I don't think smugness is something you can seriously level against Benni or Bentley.

There's a Villa fan over on thefootballforum.net that believes we're very interested in Steven Davis. Would be an interesting signing if true, though we'd have a crowded midfield.

As for the Beattie rumour, if he's cheap I wouldn't mind signing him. Decent enough player.

Quality player who has been given no chance under O'Neill and i'd be suprised if that continued if he stayed there to much longer. I'd guess the first manager to make a move for him will be Mr Sanchez.

Not necessarily - just that the rumours started that early and he's sick of living with rumours so if Pool want rid they need to say so and not mess him about then anyone who might be interested and Bellamy himself know where they stand

Hint that Bellamy wants Aston Villa? (quote from den)

The Aston Villa Evening Telegraph seems to think so.

Putting it in a different context, there are several reports that all interest in Bellamy has died away since Liverpool slapped on the £12m price tag. I guess Bellers thinks he will have a summer of total uncertainty unless he gets someone to start the bidding. The likelihood of him being at Liverpool next season has probably slipped to less than 10% now.

Surprisingly, if what is reported in today's Sun is correct, Chelsea's days of being able to blow everyone out of the water in the transfer market may be over.

Abramovich is reported to have fallen out of love with the club and wants to spend more time abroad and with his new girlfriend. Reportedly wants to remain as sole owner but not be involved as a key decision maker. It's allegedly "stand on your own two feet time" for Chelski. The overall waste of money is cited as the reason for the disinterest.

Didn't take long if it's true. (Edit: philip has just said much the same on the McCarthy thread)

In the circumstances now would seem to be a very good time to rather publically slap a 25m price tag on Benni's head. :tu::rover:

Just reminds us how lucky we were / are. Even though Uncle Jack moved to Jersey, he never fell out of love with the Rovers.

I think you can also look at it as he has now paid roughly in fees what it would now cost to buy the club. At this point if it runs break-even he looks to at least get his money back with the increased values of clubs and the increased world-wide reputation of Chelsea.

0% now.

Why did the Telegraph give the story that angle ?

From a Rovers perspective it should have been written along the lines "Blackburn Rovers face intense competition from Aston Villa " ete...

Bizarre editing and a good way of alienating readers.

On current face value, Chelsea could not work on an even keel business wise. They have too much debt for one, their turnover would never address the wage structure already in place at the club following their initial splash the cash syndrome when they bought all and sundry for massive amounts, their fan base is poor and a home crowd of 41500 every game will not balance the books.

If it is true that Roman Abramovich has decided to cut his investment then we clearly could see a "leedsunited II' situation developing !

Now that would be funny !

celery anyone?

I remember having a discussion with an arrogant Chelsea fan in a pub seven or eight years ago where he was absolutely convinced that they were the second biggest supported team in England, second only to Man U and better supported than Liverpool! At the time, I challenged him to head off up north and see if he would spot a Chelsea shirt. He would have struggled.

Agreed, although Abramovich has hardly left Chelski, high and dry he's poured 250 - 300 m of his own money in and it seems he's simply had enough of what Alan Sugar called "the prune juice effect" i.e. the money going straight into the players pockets.

It seems that the same happens after a while with all rich benefactors, they haven't made all their money by being a mug and eventually they must hate just pouring their money down a black hole.

It happened at wolves with Sir Jack Hayward who famously labelled himself "the golden tit" before pulling the plug on the spending, our own Uncle Jack temporarily put the brakes on in 1995 when we really could have done with pushing on, and now Abramovich.

Agreed.

From a personal experience, I know it's often difficult to fill the news section on a no news day, however the LET could have written the article in a more sensitive and political way, bearing in mind who their readers are.

I think we have got a great chance of grabbing Jason Koumas after West Brom lost the Championship Playoff Final. :rover::brfc:

Bellamy may have slipped from our grasp though but you can always hope.

Koumas reminds me of Craig Hignett. Good ball player, scores plenty of goals from midfield, lacks pace, can't tackle back and spent most of his time in the lower leagues.

Regarding Koumas, like Savage and Bellamy, Hughes and the coaching staff will know if he is good enough for us.

So not worried about the judgement on that one (as they know him well).

It's our friend Andy Nield again, just be glad he isn't shopping Mort and Benni around, that seems to be his usual MO.
