Rumour which has been mentioned - Kristofer Haestad to Blackburn?

I just find the Haestad rumour (if true) quite strange because he made no impact at Wigan, albeit at a side struggling.

While I agree, I've long since decided that I'll always support Sparky if he thinks a move is the right one -- if anyone is capable of getting the most out of a player, then Hughes has proven it's him.

I'm encouraged by this news, because I remember we most of us were excited about the possibility of signing Haested back in December and January. Central midfield is clearly an area where we could use some depth: even with Savage coming back healthy, Dunn still hasn't proven he can play 40 matches a year, and Tugay can't possibly keep going for that much longer (though I feel like we've been saying this every summer for the past four years).

I just hope it's not regurgitated news from the winter transfer window; it's always frustrating when that kind of poor journalism is published.

I'm suprised that we haven't swooped for Koumas. I thought Sparky would have been making an offer for him as soon as he knew West Brom would not be coming up because of the Welsh connections and all that.

It might mean he's busy trying to get Bellaz back. :rover:

What gets me is that Rovers continue to quietly go about their business, yet the media take this as a sign of weakness. Some cracking signings last summer and January (even Jeffers - mainly because Ipswich have made an improved offer :) ). And they're hardly mentioned! There was a point on the last day where Benni was 1 goal off the top scorer in the premiership, but he may has well have been a ghost for all the mention he got over Didier "can't stand up" Drogba and Christiano the wonderful. Frustrating.

I've complete faith that Sparky knows who he wants and is already making quiet moves to get them. Even so, I think I might set the Sun offices on fire >:)

To those MB clowns who wanted Rovers to accept Ipswich's offers for Jeffers, both Brum and Derby have been reported to be interested in paying £750K. We will get £1m for him yet.

Have to say Bellamy once again did not look up to much playing for Wales. Rafa the genious has certainly wrecked the player we had last season. I think irrespective of who will get Bellers, the bidding will stop at a figure well short of Liverpool's daydreams and the scouse Spaniard will only have himself to blame.

Hæstad scored the first in our 4-0 win over Malta today, and played quite well. He was unmarked when Bjørn Helge Riise (younger brother) crossed perfectly for him to head home. It was a 100% chance, but it was well taken. MGP played extraordinarily poor, some awful set pieces and very little else - just one good run and pass. But who cares, the season is over for now, he'll come back stronger..

Hæstad shouldn't be too expensive if we do want to sign him now, probably less than we signed Gamst for. A million pound should do the trick, if we can add some percentages and so on with that.

I really can't see us signing Hæstad. If we manage to keep hold of all of our midfield players then we won't be needing any new players in that area

I'd like to see one more midfielder, one striker and one defender. I like the idea of Hæstad because we only need squad players in midfield and defense.

I would say we dont really need any midfielders but we do have the space to get one more in if Hughes he feels he can get him in and turn him around and the price is right. Haestad and Davis (of Villa) both could fit in this category. So could Reo-Coker but the price is probably too high for him.

As for defence, the only area that could possibly need any strengthening at all is right back imo.

I watched the Norway-Malta game and had the luxury of concentrating on MGP to see how good/bad his form currently is.

First half he certainly covered the ground going forwards and back without actually doing anything much. However, he did pull the Malta defence completely out of shape with a near post run that gave Haestad a free header for the opening goal.

As the half wore on MGP got poorer and in the second half he was abysmal- so much so that after two awful crosses the Norwegian crowd was giving him a lot of stick. He got subbed after less than an hour!

There is no doubt thatr MGP's form has completely fallen away and the sooner he goes on his holiday and Bung the Agent stops unsettling him, the better- Hughes has a big job on his hands getting MGP back into shape.

Haestad was fairly anonimous. The younger Riise looked decent. Carew was very poor and didn't trouble the Malta defenders anything like the way he should have done. Most of the Malta squad are Conference level- they were missing some of their better players as well.

Looking around, the rumours that caught my eye are:

- Real about to land David Villa

- Everton going for Wigan's Scharner

- West Ham linked to SWP, Joey Barton, Carlton Cole, Jermain Defoe, Luke Young (nice to see Eggert's millions being a pain in the rear end for a bunch of clubs who were looking the other way over the Tevez affair).

- However, Darren Bent is going to Spurs rather than West Ham (hopefully Spurs paying more because of West Ham's interest)

The Times picks up the theme that Man U have changed the game in this transfer market by their quick moves and huge prices. Unfortunately, they say that the prices for Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will have gone up then suggest Rovers would only want £8m for Benni when the only number Hughes has mentioned was £30m!

Agreed, although I might want two more strikers (one to replace Nonda and the other as a genuine star).

Some teams have more money than sense.

Nothing but talk of our best players leaving Ewood at the moment, very frustrating whether true or not.Common Rovers, be a bit more bullish in the transfer market please...there are season tickets to be sold are there not?

It is still very early days and there are many international games still going on. It is difficult I know but you should try and not read too much into the paper gossip!

Just read an article on the Orange website, and they list our transfer targets as Craig Bellamy (Liverpool), Marlon King (Watford), Jason Koumas (West Brom), Steven Whitaker (Hibernian).

Not read us linked with Marlon King before, but he certainly would do the trick.

I know it can be frustrating reading gossip columns every day and seeing the likes of West Ham, Spurs and Pompey being linked with every player on the planet, whereas little old Rovers are never mentioned. But we should all know by now that behind the scenes MH and JW will be working as hard as anyone to get their main transfer targets. They don't usually do business in public, but very often come up with the goods.
