I also love how Rev puts words into our players mouths. Apparently in his mind this entire team feels that they aren't good enough and that the board need to sign more stars to play ahead of them, or else they'll want to leave. Yet everyone ELSE has the negative viewpoint.

Since when is it very negative to think we have a good team?!?!?!

Anyways to stoke the fires a bit, reading through the daily gossip, there are a few names that might be interesting to see in a Rovers shirt.

LuaLua looks set to move. For some reason I always liked him.

Pandiani linked with a move to Foolham, weren't we in for him at one point a season or 2 back?

Also since our Rangers signings also fail to work out, what about Jarosik from celtic, who is rumored to be moving on, an attacking midfielder to learn from Tugay, perhaps? though he is ~ 30 years old...

To quote Harry Redknapp: "In football, if you stand still you end up going backwards".

All the teams around us will be strengthening this summer, especially given the rise in television money. If we are simply content with hanging on to what we have then the best we could hope for is sneaking into the top half of the table.

Thankfully Hughes and his team appear very ambitious so I don't think for a second they'll be of that view.

We all know Hughes gets people in the club in baulk signings its never one here and there, its usually 2 in at once. Still got 2 and a bit months till the start of the season whats the panic? might aswell let newcastle and west ham spunk all there money on average players like parker and barton first :D

I'm sure we all remember the last time we were content with our side and didn't strengthen.

EVERY player whop signs for the barcodes mentions the opportunity to win medals when they sign. If only one of them had a brain before they opened their gob and actually realised just who they were signing for !!!

Newcastle's ambition can be only the league Cup or a place in Europe and with that I mean a league placing of between 5th and 7th. They have the ground and fan base but they dont have a quality team no matter how much money they throw at it.

For me they are a waste of time.

They won an inter-toto trophy, something we hope to do :P.

West Ham seem to be taking the place of Spurs as the team that 'tracks' or 'considers a bid' for the most players. I expect them to be 'close to signing Prince Charles and Admiral Yamamoto' tomorrow! If the papers are to be believed, they can only convince players to join if they offer daft wages. Yossi Benyuiyoon (sp?) is close to agreeing a £50,000 p/w deal according to something on ITV teletext. £50,000 p/w for a player who'd probably be a Rovers squad player?

BARTON SIGNS FOR NEWCACK

''Feel wanted'' - I bet he did being offered £70k a week

''Winning Medals'' - not won anything since 1969 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Why in God's name are Newcastle paying him 70k a week? SUrely no one was going to offer him that much? its not like Man Utd or Arsenal were in for him...

Must be the West Ham factor I suppose.

You're criticising me for not being supportive enough of the existing playing staff then suggest a right shower as potential replacements!

With everyone fully fit we have a strong squad and the last thing we need to do is bring in several average players no better than the ones we already have.

However, if we're to improve on our current level (Circa 10TH) I do feel we firstly need to keep our "stars" AND add a second real top quality striker into the mix to compliment Benni, Roberts and Derbyshire. (Make that two if Benni leaves)

With the current squad I really believe that we could be challenging for a to six spot. I dont think we achieved that this season due to bad decisions (will always happen but this season was extremely bad), injuries to key players, reid, savage, ooijer, nelsen etc. and the odd bit of bad luck. I would not trade our team for any other outside the top 5/6.

Rev - did you not read the comments from JW last week? He said we are after a striker in this transfer window because Sparky feels we need another one.

So why the panic? The club appear to be aware of your concerns...

So, hypothetically the first thing to happen at Ewood this transfer window is Bellamy arrives.

IF anyone else had been contemplating leaving, is that more likely to persuade anyone to stay or leave?.

THe former surely. I don't see how anyone can sensibly argue against that.

I know, I was just replying to our American friend's view that it was a slight on the existing playing staff.

I agree, but with words like 'could' and 'really believe'it seems as though you think there's any doubt that we would have been in the top 6 without those problems. Personally I have no doubt of that at all. We only missed out by 4 points, let's not forget. Fair refereeing decisions alone would have corrected that. With less injuries and something approaching the Premiership's average level of luck, I'd have expected us to be at least where Tottenham finished. Also, personally I wouldn't trade our team for any outside the top 4 except perhaps Spurs. I most certainly don't think Everton are a better team than us.

Knowing that all the other clubs will be strengthening, and Newcastle better managed, I believe, like most others, that we need additions to ensure top 6 next season though. An addition to the striking department of Benni or Bellamy's calibre would give us striking options on a par with Spurs. I think our midfield averages out as similar, but firmly feel that we need a good young playmaker to give us the edge. Our defence and keeper are better, full stop.

(Edit- just realised how pointless it is to say full stop, then put a full stop)

If we can keep the team together and add a new class striker, along with maybe abit of young flair to the squad then i think we could be a good bet for the top 6 again.

Only Tottenham are at our level outside the top 4 and they will obviously be splashing the cash again.

I would like us to sign either Defoe, Bellamy or some hidden gem that Hughes finds abroad.

If the Lancs Telegraph is true and that the Barcodes want Nonda then personally id say you are welcome to him! Unless of course Hughes is right again and he comes good next season!

Haven't they signed Viduka? I'm sure I read they were about to sign him, so I presume that would be the end of the interest in Nonda.

I have got a feeling Earnshaw could be on our short-list. I noticed Derby were linked with him today for a figure of around £5 million.

We were strongly linked with him in January, but nothing materialised. Again, like Koumas, Hughes will know if he is upto it.

Looking around at other clubs, it appears (according to their owners) that Liverpool and West Ham may have some transfer news to report next week.

It would be nice to think West Ham will be transferring leagues.

Please no Earnshaw and not at £5m- apart from Bellamey, I think the Welsh connection is now limited to Hughes giving unemployed Welshmen nice references.

also:

Everton are considering a £3.5m swoop for Blackburn striker Jason Roberts. (Daily Mirror)

these kinda rumours annoy me because only a few days ago they moaned about clubs thinking about making decent bids for Johnson, and here they are thinking about bidding a poor amount for another player.

£3.5m for Roberts isnt a poor offer. It would see us make a profit on a player who only player a quarter of a season. Any news about Nonda? Hughes said he will try and sign him, but it went quiet. I sincerely hope we do not sign him. Also saw on sky sports we were after a norwegien that was released by WIGAN!!! Come on Sparky we can do better than that!
