OJRovers Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 It would be nice to get any sort of cash in from Jeffers considering he didn't cost us anything. I can't see us selling Roberts, we haven't had the best of him yet.

modes98 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I sincerely hope we do not sign him. Also saw on sky sports we were after a norwegien that was released by WIGAN!!! Come on Sparky we can do better than that! Give sparky and his staff credit. They research every signing in detail and don't rush into any signing. The CM is a good player and highly rated. He only got 3 games for wigan and 2 of those were as a sub, hardly enough to judge if he'd make it.
USRoverME Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Also in the rumors I saw that Melchiot was available on a free and looking at Wigan. I always rated him when he played in the Prem for Chelsea and Birmingham. I seem to remember him playing at right or left back, but I might be wrong. He could be decent cover for Emerton and Warnock. However he is ~ 30 and might have lost a step or two from when I last saw him play.
Presty On Tour Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 i think Melchiot is passed it now at prem level even if he is on a free its not worth it imo, talking of him did anyone see his performance acting on dream team?

Roar of the Rover Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Text message off Rovers ''Rovers have turned down a second bid from Championship side Ipswich Town for sought-after striker Francis Jeffers'' Looks like Derby might just snap him up.
Exiled_Rover Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 £3.5m for Roberts isnt a poor offer. It would see us make a profit on a player who only player a quarter of a season. Any news about Nonda? Hughes said he will try and sign him, but it went quiet. I sincerely hope we do not sign him. Also saw on sky sports we were after a norwegien that was released by WIGAN!!! Come on Sparky we can do better than that! It's a joke of an offer considering we paid £3m for him 12 months ago.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 £3.5m for Roberts isnt a poor offer. It would see us make a profit on a player who only player a quarter of a season. Roberts never got going for most of last season due to bad luck with injuries and we only started to see what he is capable of right at the end. 3.5m isn't exactly a ridiculous offer for him but I hope he doesn't go anywhere for that price because I think we'd struggle to replace him with someone as effective for that sort of money. Conversely given his age if someone were to bid 5-6m for him, then that would be difficult to turn down, and for all his many attributes, he isn't the most clinical in front of goal.
bluebruce Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 It's a joke of an offer considering we paid £3m for him 12 months ago. That, in itself, makes no sense. Perhaps you want to justify it? The Derby Jeffers link would appear to be nonsense. As Billy Davies in fact said a week ago. "It's nonsense - we are not after him." And that was when the talk was of £1 million, nevermind 1.5.

Why would we pay £3m for his rights and a year's salary if we're not going to make a profit? He hit some form towards the end of the season, showing some promise for the future. Unless it's an absurd offer, there's no reason to sell.

Yes but turn it on it's head - if Liverpool would accept a £7m bid for Craig Bellamy, then wouldn't you be willing to sell Jason Roberts to pay for half of Bellamy? I know I would! I do rate Roberts but I don't think he's good enough to be a first team regular. Ideally we'd have the following next season in this order: Benni Bellers Derbs Roberts Gally I wouldn't bother with Nonda.
benhben Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I think people misunderstood me. I dont want to sell Roberts and I can remember many of times last season defending him when he wasnt playing, claiming he would come good. Hey I even started the Jason Roberts thread. Just 3.5m wouldnt be the end of the world. Anyway have faith in the Hughes. You know what hes like, keeps everything completely quiet then unveils a masterpiece.

Players change hands without a profit regularly, for reasons such as not fulfilling their promise. Personally I do see £3.5 mill as less than we ought to accept, yes, but I also don't see it as ludicrous. I'd strongly consider a sale if an offer of 5 million or so were made though.
thenodrog Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Reading all the above stuff just confirms that the lessons of history have not been learned and that all the 'new' TV money is being blown ever faster by simply giving it all to the players and their agents. I for one am NOT suprised in the slightest.

So you're saying the same staff that got £2.5m for Kuqi and are asking for £1.5m for Jeffers are going to let one of their front line strikers go for no net gain? Seriously?
tcj_jones Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 £5 million for a player who could easily, easily demand £7.5?
Silencio Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 £5 million for a player who could easily, easily demand £7.5? Who could demand 7.5m? Roberts?
JamieUK Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 The Mail - Bellamy can go for £9m If this is correct then although it's a lot of £££ but if we wanted him I'm sure we could stretch to that amount...
John Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I am sure we can pay that for proven quality, and someone who get into our starting eleven. I just fear the competition for him is too intense.
Billy Castell Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 So far, according to the press, we're selling Pedersen, Derbyshire, McCarthy, Roberts and probably Bentley, and will miss out on Bellamy. I wonder if we'll replace those players with Beattie, Ameobi, Anderton, Handbag and Heskey?

I wonder if we'll replace those players with Beattie, Ameobi, Anderton, Handbag and Heskey? With two bad games for Norway, I can't see Pedersen going anywhere soon. I think Hughes will try and keep more or less the same starting 11 as this season. Hopefully we will get one or two good signings before the season starts.
tchocky Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Am I not paying attention or are the BBC more in the know than anyone else? BLACKBURN ROVERS Ins: Outs: Andy Todd (released). BBC
Jordan Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Am I not paying attention or are the BBC more in the know than anyone else? BBC I think they may have got him confused with Michael Gay as he was released last week I think.
