According to JW on Radio Lancs today, Todd has been told he can leave the club as long as we get a suitable fee-probably the amount we paid for him. JW said we would not stand in his way to leave by demanding an exhorbitant fee.

Daily Mirror has us linked to James Beattie. States that he wants a move to the club he supports but Everton want Roberts as part of the deal.

I'd rather keep Roberts and add Beattie to the squad. Can't see them asking too much for a player who has spent most of the season on the bench.

Exchanging Roberts for Beattie is madness, utter madness.

Roberts came into the PL late in his career, he still has things to prove. Beattie on the other hand has peaked. He played for England and had one or two outstanding seasons at Southampton - I don't think he'll reach the heights he once promised.

Roberts was banging them in at the end of the season, wheras Beattie was faffing about in the reserves. A trial for Beattie would be needed before that deal was on. I know he was a Rovers youth player etc. but that means nothing if he can't do it on the pitch.

Roberts for Beattie really IS a no-brainer! By that I mean EXACTLY what it says: Anyone believing that Beattie is likely to be a better prospect for Rovers than Roberts has no brain!

As others have said, I wouldnt mind seeing Beattie added to the squad for a decent fee as he's the sort of striker we dont really have in our squad.

No way would i swap him for Roberts though, him and Benni linked up really well towards the end of last season, and i want to see more of that next season.

If we could get Beattie plus a few million for Roberts then I'd snap their hands off. Everton's style of play simply doesn't suit Beattie, they often leave strikers isolated and Beattie always looks more effective with a partner alongside him.

We have to look at strengthening the first eleven, if Everton were offering cash plus Beattie then we'd have to seriously consider it. I'd happily swap Roberts for Beattie if it meant we could get a higher class of forward to partner Benni. Beattie and Derbyshire as the second choice strike force would be excellent when you consider it wasn't long ago we had Dickov and Stead battling to be the lone striker.

Yeah beattie im undecided on, Roberts is our big powerhouse with a good eye for goal. Since Beattie has been at Everton just hasn't lived up to expectation. But maybe he just doesn't suit Moyes's style of football. Could be interesting

It almost sounds like Everton would be expecting Roberts and cash for Beattie. No way.

I'd rather hang on to Roberts, but if the justification to get Beattie and cash is to use that cash on a big name player I'd be fine with that.

As many people have pointed out, Roberts cannot trap a bag of cement but boy would we be upset if he carries on his goal a game run at Everton.

Beattie needs sorting and unlike Barton whom many on here wanted adding to the Mark Hughes-run psychiatric hospital at Brockhall, probably is sortable. Particularly if he has Bellamy screaming blue murder at him if he shows the slightest sign of shirking.

I doubt the transfer exchange with the toffees would take place but I'd back Hughes' judgement on this one. Beattie at his best is a far better player than Roberts at his best.

Taking Beattie and selling Roberts just doesnt make any footballing sense.

Should JR get a full pre season behind him he could carry on just where he left off at the end if this, in full flow and scoring. the Beattie situation is quite clear, he can just about warm the bench, his confidence is shot and I cant recall his last goal in an Everton shirt, was it against us ?

Beattie may hanker about a move back to Ewood but for me its a big NO NO. He just is not good enough to displace Roberts, Derbyshire or Nonda, talking of Nonda, it could be that we dont sign him and take a cheaper option with Beattie instead, and, again, I am not sure that even that would be the correct option.

I think Rovers are biding their time with transfer targets well and truly in their sights.

Just like we fans are waiting for our new shirts to take on our trolls, we must wait to see just who is going to feature in the Blue and White shirts next season.

In 8 weeks time we should just have beaten PNE away 5-0, Bellamy, McCarthy (2), Pederson and Derbyshire, and all the goals set up by a rejuvenated Bentley, we should also have cruised into our european slot and I as well as many others, will no doubt be planning a new jaunt across the frontiers, flying our flags and having a bloody good time in Europe :brfc:

Ever heard of 'a bird in the hand' Gunner ....? Roberts complements Benny and Derbyshire well. He ended last season in a rich vein of form yet you would be happy to exchange him for a player who imo over the last 3 years has lost his way and his hunger! What if we find in due course that Beattie has quietly turned into another Jeffers?

Leaving the possibility of Bellamy returning / Benny going out of the equation I'd leave the first 3 strikers alone and if anybody was to be offered as a swap for Beattie or A N Other it would be Nonda.

I thought the article said they were prepared to pay "top dollar?"

Laughable to think we'd let one of our most influential players go for 1m less than we paid for him and even more laughable to think that Savage would relish swapping Premiership and UEFA Cup football for a slog in the Championship.

Agreed tnr.

Before you mentioned it the player Beattie was reminding me of was not Jeffers but Robbie Fowler. I think we may already have seen the best of Beattie in a Fowleresque sort of way - not that Beattie was ever as good as Fowler at his peak, but I hope people can see the comparison.

I wouldn't mind Beattie as a direct replacement for Nonda - in the hope Mark Hughes can spark some improvement in him - but not much else.

Apart from the Savage rumour, there is not much Rovers related gossip today. Our name is continually linked along with a clutch of clubs after Koumas.

Looks like we are waiting for the green light from Liverpool to approach Bellamy. You would have thought with our connections that we would know now whether or not he would be keen to re-join us.

As much I'd love Bellers back, I have to say I think it looks unlikely. West Ham can offer serious cash, and will build a decent team over the next year or so. Equally, Newcastle have been known throw out the big wages - and they too will progress under Allardyce. Also I think Bellamy feels as though he has unfinished business at St James' Park.

I'm not too sure that we have been linked with too many top forwards other than Bellamy. I do not inlcude Beattie in the top forward category.

It will be interesting to see where Hughes would look should a Bellamy return become a bridge too far.
