  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

Obviously nothing is settled so far as Bellamy is concerned but Rovers would not have come out twice now in the summer window and during his troubles in winter saying they want him back if we don't have a well-worked out strategy for landing him in the teeth of predictable competition.

Defoe snubbing West Ham is potentially bad news though.

As for Newcastle, is Alan Shearer still around up there? And Fat Freddie will continue as Chairman in Mike Ashley's new regime when he recovers from his pneumonia and collapsed lung. Their undying love for Bellamey is well-documented. Big Sam has pretty well resigned himself on losing Owen to a clause-triggering bid judging by his comments today.

As much I'd love Bellers back, I have to say I think it looks unlikely. West Ham can offer serious cash, and will build a decent team over the next year or so. Equally, Newcastle have been known throw out the big wages - and they too will progress under Allardyce. Also I think Bellamy feels as though he has unfinished business at St James' Park.

I'm not too sure that we have been linked with too many top forwards other than Bellamy. I do not inlcude Beattie in the top forward category.

It will be interesting to see where Hughes would look should a Bellamy return become a bridge too far.

Ashton/Nugent for me.

Wham are never selling Ashton, and Nugent's not worth £6m.

I have a feeling that whoever shells out the money for Nugent is going to get their moneys worth.

Most people (clubs included) suggested Ashton, Johnson and Bent were overpriced when they were in the Championship, but all the clubs that have taken a gamble on them will be glad they did so. £6 million for Nugent seems expensive now, but if he has a good debut Premiership season then suddenly it looks quite a bargain.

Ashton/Nugent for me.

The more I watch Nugent the more I rate him. But he's going to be massively overpriced.

Billy Sharp, I know has been discussed, but living in Scunthorpe I'm quite close to his progress - having originally being umimpressed by him, I now think he may be a viable option. 30 goals in any league is a top achievement. He's avaible for around £2.5m and is only 21.

Can he step up to the PL? Not sure, I haven't seen him play in the flesh - but what I am sure of is that when he plays he scores goals. If it was Nugent for £6m plus or Sharp for under £3 million. I'd go for Sharp.

As a long shot, I'd love Crouch to become available. Although competition for his signature may prove tough.

I'd return my season ticket if we signed Crouch. Sharp would be too much of a gamble at £2.5m.

Bellers ain't coming back.

Not to be picking on you 'Blue, but 2 years ago a member whose name I won't mention (not you of course) stated rather emphatically that "Benni Mccarthy will never play for Rovers."

Never say never.

I'm sure by now you all know I'd like for us to get Robbie Keane, what would he cost and is it remotely possible? Bellers ain't coming back.

I thought that as well but we've missed the boat on him, he's just signed a new 5 year contract with Spuds.

The time to get Keane would have been at the start of 2005/6 when he was out of favour there and teamed him up with Bellamy. It would have been expensive but with players of that calibre you have to take a plunge when you get the chance, they only come on the market once in a while.

As for posters above saying players x y and z would be too much of a gamble I think it goes without saying that without spending 20m on a striker we're going to have to take a gamble to some degree. For a modest 2.5m I'd have thought Sharp was well worth a look.

Agreed it looks most unlikely Bellamy will be returning

a) All the indications are he favours a return to a Sounesslessless Newcastle.

b ) I don't think we've any genuine interest at all in bringing him back at the sort of 9m to 12m price range being mentioned. If we were serious about signing him we'd have lodged an official bid for him instead of simply "monitoring his situation" etc.

Who could demand 7.5m? Roberts?

Whoops, sorry Bish. I thought, at the time, that you were referring to Pedersen.

Against who? Jamaica? Estonia? Bravo.

Crouch is definitely a good standard Premiership player, at the least, and you'd have to be daft not to see that. His goal record for club and country is very respectable and, most importantly, he offers something different. I would love to see Crouch and Bellamy together, but Crouch and McCarthy would be very good also!

In the past I have stated how much I have wanted Beattie at the club. However, since Roberts has started to show his best, I would say we do not need a striker in his mould quite so much now, and I would rather blow our budget bringing Bellamy back.

I wouldn't mind seeing Beattie return in exchange for Roberts.

Mirror suggests a Rovers Return for Beattie

Can I just bring up a sore point...if we hadn't given away Beattie all those years ago we probably wouldn't have been relegated.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back - can you imagine... TWO Rovers fans playing up front (Derbs & Beattie). It would RAIN goals!

Anyone else really, really, really bored with this close season, I can't wait for Liverpool to start making some moves then Bellers future can be sorted then we can move for some players, IMO it's quite obvious Bellamy is our first choice and we're willing to pay pretty much what it takes to get him here because he would make the single biggest difference to us than any other realistic target, that said if he is not available or he chooses the mediocre midlands then I think you'll see us rush into action and sign a few cheaper targets that we're just keeping on the backburner for the time being. Bring on July, thats when the fun usually starts.

Hmmm..... Irrational thought must be a symptom connected to the condition of acute homesickness.
