benhben Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hughes has come out and said anothe striker is his main option. The Bellamy connection and hughes comment makes me think that this will be our major summer signing, without much else going on. Where else needs strengthening. Savage, Reid and Oojier will be like new signings remember, especially Reid as we hardly had him last year.

philipl Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 The club has dismissed the link with Southampton's Baird
tcj_jones Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Although Geremi has come out and said he would be interested in a move to 'Boro, meaning that he will more than likely move on this summer, he has already played at Teeside and I would have thought he would get far better contract than we would ever offer him. Wages would be a huge stumbling block I think. That said, I do think he is a good player and his versatility is really useful.
RoverInWigan Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 ive had a look over the last few pages and i may have missed something but nobody has seemed to mention the player of Joey Barton. He may be a bit of a wild card but wsnt Bellamy like that and hughes managed to control him. i think he would be a great addition to the squad.
Hughesy Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Geremi is a no go! We have no need for him in our squad. We need to look at young talent. Personnaly i think we should really push the boat out and sign both Bellamy or Defoe & Reo-coker. I would class that as a massive improvement
gazsimm Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 how much do u think liverpool will let crouch go for? If he came available i would rather we go for him then bellers, him and bennie (if he stays) would be a great partnership

gazsimm Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 It's not looking overly promising for one really big signing at the moment, let alone two. maybe sparky is waiting for the spanish league to finish, then he will produce the signing of the summer by tempting Eto'o to ewood i can dream
LeChuck Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'd agree with Superstella on this one, always liked Geremi and he's versatile. For a few years I've been dropping Geremi's name in as someone we should sign, however I think that time has passed. We have Emerton as the attacking full back, Ooijer as a more solid option, and we have a lot of players in central midfield. He's 29 now and I don't think we'd get value for money from him when he would certainly command a seven figure transfer fee and be on relatively high wages. I don't see him as an improvement over what we already have, any money we have should be channeled towards getting in a quality striker, then if there's any left over we can address other areas.

He may be a bit of a wild card but wsnt Bellamy like that and hughes managed to control him. i think he would be a great addition to the squad. i thought he had already signed for newcastle and that the only hold up being a £300.000 loyalty bonus he wants from city? Not that i would have wanted him at ewood anyway
philipl Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 It's not looking overly promising for one really big signing at the moment, let alone two. Official transfer activity so far this summer from a casual glance at two sites: EPL clubs have committed to buying 14 players for around £65m. Sunderland, Bolton, Newcastle, West Ham, Wigan, Birmingham, Chelsea and ManU have completed at least one transfer, the other 12 have no incoming moves so far. This doesn't include Barton yet.
tchocky Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I think it depends on when the contract was signed, if he signed before he was 28 it had to be a four year contract and he needs to serve his three years and pay compensation for the final year unless there is just cause for termination, if he was over 28, the contract needs to be at least three years for him to be able to buy his way out. He is 29 now so he needed to sign for at least four years and served three otherwise, as I read it, he doesn't qualify to be able to terminate. All I know is it isn't as cut and dry as the media try and make it. Even if I am wrong I don't think he would come here anyway........ Err, you are talking about Trezeguet are you not? Geremi's still 28 for about 6 months. He's played for 'Boro so IMO there's a good chance he would play for us. Good squad player. Way better than Mokoena anyway. Oh and for the record. There's not a chance in hell that Trezeguet would even consider any club outside the top 4 in this country.

Not that i would have wanted him at ewood anyway barton is a very good player and if someone could control his temper like big sam or sparky could probabley do, they would have a very good player in their squad

Dave S Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Thats because he has already signed for newcastle maybe? Apparently the deal has stalled. Barton wants a loyalty payment as he has not asked for a move. City have refused to negotiate a payoff according to the BBC. Also Big Sam is upset!? If he is that upset maybe Newcastle should pay it.
SuperStella Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 McAteer Retires; http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/6745631.stm I'll never forget him scoring at Turf Moor to put us 1-0 up in our promotion season Cue 2 Dingles climbing over the advertising boards of the Longside and set off running towards the Rovers fans going berserk..... they soon changed their mind when they looked over their shoulders to find no-one following....

Average £4.6m per player - pricey market.

Bazzanotsogreat Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Average £4.6m per player - pricey market. Try taking United out of the market Nani 13million, anderson 15mill ?, hargreaves 17 mill. It will bring your average player price down considerably.
Martin Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 This really is a quiet time for Rovers. Either the players we want are not available full stop - very possible, given it's about quality not quantity or Rovers are for some reason playing the waiting game. I would hate to think we are taking a reactive stance to the 'new TV money' and waiting to see how much clubs are ploughing into the playing staff before committing ourselves. I can't say this summer has been exciting for us so far, however it is certianly proving interesting.

Bing Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Reo-Coker? Personally I don't want overrated, over paid and big headed players in the Rovers team. Absolutely. Its no surprise that managers look abroad when you see the sort of fees being commanded by average and technically mediocre players like Reo-Coker, Barton and Parker.
1864roverite Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Talking of freebies, does anyone know a bit about the Turkish striker TUNCAY. He is available on a free and appears to be the subject of attention from Middlesboro. Maybe our European based fans know a bit about him.
herbergeehh Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned earlier, he's been a terrific signing in Football Manager and CM for years. Haven't seen him a lot myself, but people who has sees him as a good player - perhaps not the next galactico - but a gifted attacking player who'd be good for most teams in Europe. I'm sure the staff knows he's available, so we'll see what happens..
Backroom trueblue Posted June 12, 2007 Backroom Posted June 12, 2007 he's been a terrific signing in Football Manager and CM for years. Oh well.. he must be worth at least £34M then Thank goodness Mark Hughes doesn't rely on footy games to say how good players are
