why would he choose newcastle above us?

we have a chance of getting into europe and we have got that turkish legend called tugay on our books

Hmm!

As I see it Mr. Red's comments were getting ignored and now they are becoming increasingly controversial/inflammatory...

Does somebody want some attention?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere (I haven't noticed figures mentioned previously) but yesterday's transfer speculation could be summed up as follows:

WBA turned down a 4m bid from Wigan for Koumas. Imo 4m is far too much for him as it is.

Sunderland have allegedly bid 6m for Nugent. Which in the grand scheme of things could turn out to be a long term bargain.

Boro signed the Turkish guy. Don't know anything about him.

Darren Bent £17M to West Ham on £80K a week?! The world is going mad!

OK he's a good player who will score a few but he's still unproven at premiership level and has looked out of his depth playing for England. He's your classic 2nd tier class of strikers and wouldnt even get in the squad of the top 4 teams.

I agree that it is a lot of money however disagree when you say he is unproven at Premiership level. He will score goals.

I think he scored something like 15 goals the season before last and was the highest scoring englishman. Last season her scored about 12 and he was playing for a team which was relegated. When we went down I am sure our top scorer got 4 or 5. You also say that he looks out of his depth playing for England....he has only played in a few games.

I do think that £17M is a lot of money but I think that it is a lot for any footballer. He is young and IMO can only get better.

OK fair enough, i was a bit harsh saying he was unproven and he will socre a few goals but it's the £17M and £80K a week that baffles me. It puts him in the elite earners and he's not exactly an elite player!

I think wham must be super confident the tribunal will rule against Sheff U next week by splashingsome serious money around. For me Bent is not worth anywhere near 17million, he might have scored goals for Charlton but noone else did. I cannot see him scoring as many for wham.

If he is to progress then I would say he would sign for Spurs which obviously means one of the big strikers is leaving their club.

Defoe could be the man to go along with Mido.

Keane has signed a long term deal and Berbatov is pure class.

Its all very intriguing :brfc:

Spurs have made an undisclosed bid for Bent!

At first I thought that this was excellent news because it could mean Defoe would be free to move on. However, it is probably more likely that it will be Mido leaving and that West Ham will bid, and price us out of a move, for Bellamy.

However, if Defoe were to move and I had to choose between him and Bellamy, I'd probably go with the Bellamy. I'd also say Bellamy is more likely to want to come to us. So, if West Ham fail to get Bent, it could be bad news for us.

Could this be true, just seen it on the transfer rumours page on the sky website

My mate who works at Ewood Park has been told that Obafemi Martins will sign for Blackburn Rovers in a cash plus player deal.

Martin Simms - Gateshead

To be fair, i agree with him. Its a simple, but sad fact that most players, esp overseas ones will chose ncastle before us, as they are the so called 'big club' big ground, ambitious etc. Some research from the player might change their mind but theyre all thick as 2 planks so.....

I'd rather it wasn't. Owen would be ok i spose :P

What player would they want and we would be willing to give them? Maybe it's Jeffers!

Yep that's got truth written all over it!

Really, why would Newcastle let Martins go?

Depends who the player is going in part ex. If it was Todd plus 2 or 3m we'd all be happy.

If it was MGP or Bentley plus 2 or 3m we'd all be pretty unhappy.

Even with Allardyce in charge, the Martins rumour is clearly rubbish. Mostly because these sites always post rubbish, and unless we'd be willing to part with MGP or Bentley (or even the Admiral) - which we wouldn't be - I can't see this happening at all. Todd would be the only possible option, and I'm sure Allardyce would rather sign him for a million pounds than to get 2-3 and lose a young and exciting (though overrated) striker like Martins.

Unless WHU are trying to sign as many players now whilst they are still classed as a preimership team, so they have a excellent squad in the Championship next season. Fingers crossed :tu:

Jaaskelainen rejects Bolton deal

Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen has turned down a new deal with the club.

The 32-year-old, who has been linked to Sunderland and Manchester United, can leave for free when his current contract ends in the summer of 2008.

"Jussi has turned down his contract," the Finland star's agent Peter Harrison told the Manchester Evening News.

"He is happy to see out the last year of his current contract but at the moment that is as far as it goes. He just wants what he feels he is worth"

Jaaskelainen joined Bolton in a £100,000 deal from VPS Vaasa in 1997 and his refusal to sign a new contract is likely to alert other clubs looking for even more of a bargain.

Harrison added: "He has given 10 years' great service to Bolton and he is recognised as one of the top three keepers in the Premiership - if not the best.

"The goalkeeping position is a difficult one to fill. You only have to look at other clubs who have spent fortunes on overseas keepers and they haven't worked out.

"Jussi has never given Bolton any problems because he is solid and reliable."

Does his agent sound familiar?
