I'd be interested in seeing stats relating to the number of appearances and goals he scored in a terrible 'boro team this season, DanLad. (However, I'm too lazy to check for myself).

I don't think he looks unfit, in fact I'd say he were at the peak of physical fitness. He's an absolute powerhouse.

I'd say he would be a great signing, but I wouldn't have thought he'd make a move to somebody so close to 'Boro's league position, unless they could offer a crap load of money. I would have thought he'd hold out for any of the big four, plus Spurs, Villa or West Ham, who could offer double the wages we could.

Although, that could be very different soon...

He'd be a great signing, a realistic option as well. A good number of goals come from penalties, but he has pace and power, is a good finisher and scores the odd goal from distance. He and Benni up front would be great (a bit like Viduka and Yakubu in many ways I suppose).

Well really the more I think about it the less keen I am on signing a player for, most probably, a loss who is coming off of the back of a very poor season. He cleary has attitude problems, has never been a prolific goalscorer and we can probably expect that he'd become our highest earner if he joined. I just don't know if we'll get the same player that we first had and that there are probably better deals out there.

In my opinion Bellamy was world class in the time he was with us and was on the pitch (thirteen goals in nineteen Premiership starts) and during that time there didn't seem to be any problems whatsoever with his attitude.

We won't get a better player for the same money, he's only had a bad season because tactical genius Benitez has had him sat on the bench or in the stand most of the time.

The downside is, would his glass hamstrings cope with a forty or fifty game season? No point having Pele and Maradona if they're injured all the time.

It's a valid point Rev but if Bellamy came and we kept the rest of our strikers, we would be nowhere near as reliant on Bellamy as we were in his first stint here. I think we'd get at least 30 games out of him, which would leave 15-20 that Derbyshire could fill in for. He has similar attributes to Bellamy in that he'll run the channels, offers some pace and will bring a regular goal return. He wouldn't be quite 'learning from the best', but Bellamy would be a superb role model for Derbyshire to learn from (on pitch characteristics only I might add).

The one thing Bellamy does have going for him is that it doesn't seem to take him any time at all to find his form again after a slight injury lay off. Some other players who frequently pick up niggling injuries, like Owen, usually take 5-10 games to find their feet again, but Bellamy usually slots back in seamlessly.

As was said in part of the post I didn't quote, we won't get a better player for our money than Bellamy. Not only that, we won't get a player that will bring a whole new either. For all our strengths, pace going forward isn't one of them, either from our strikers or from wide players. Bellamy would solve that issue brilliantly; his presence alone would force defences back further to prevent the ball in behind, leaving even more space for McCarthy. Isn't that an exciting prospect?

Should we not be able to capture Bellamy, I really do feel that Nugent could offer a lot to us and do a similar job to Bellamy. He'd bring pace, link-up play and regular goals. Obviously he's not the finished article, but neither were Bent, Ashton and Johnson when they made the step up, and look how much they're worth now. Who better to nurture his talents than Sparky? If the worst happened and the move didn't work out, we'd still be able to recoup around £4 million of the £6 million or so it would cost to get him. He's so young that his value wouldn't go down that much on the back of an indifferent season or two, which makes it less of a gamble.

But I agree with Billy and gumboots about the obsessive thing. I named a budgie my gran used to have Craig after him (I know it's a bit sad) and it had to be put down after a few months.

You had a budgie put down cos we sold Bellers?

Just a quick mention that bstards have signed that Albanian, Besart Berisha from Hamburg SV, that scored against England B t'other week. Only cost £340k - I thought he looked a bit useful but no doubt he will be moving on in a few months for £700k or something.

Mr Roversmum reckoned he would be a good buy and is quite cross.

David Healy has been a reported £1m transfer target for Fulham whilst Billy Sharpe is valued at around £1.5m. Freddy Eastwood will also be around the £1-2m mark I reckon. Probably not the best strikers in the world but could be useful and cheap back up. Freddy Eastwood could be a good premiership player in the future if he was given the chance.

Also, Yakubu will always score more goals than Bellamy, but he is more of a poacher like McCarthy and 2 scroungers wouldnt neccecarily work together.

according to Simon Gardner

A proven striker like Peter Crouch, David Healy or David Nugent would be ideal

er healy and Nugent arent exactly what i would call proven strikers, maybe at championship level, but certainly not premiership

however Nugent would be worth a punt

Although I haven't seen Nugent in action much, I would prefer to take a chance on an unheard of striker from abroad than pay 6m+ for a player who hasn't even played at Premiership level - especially with Hughes' track record of finding unheard of gems.

Plus Healy does score regulary against world class defenders for internationally.

nugent for 6million isnt realy alot when you consider how much ashton and andy johnson were and i think he is a better player than both of them. hopefully we can get beattie back aswel think he will become good again if he just hav a regular run in the side.

its being reported Yakubu can leave Borough for around £8m. With Bellamy costing around the same money, perhaps the more powerful less injury prone and more natural goalscorer Yakubu could be a better option. Thats if we can afford him.

Yakubu is a sensational player imo, and just the sort of character that I think Sparky would go for. He has everything- pace, power, skill, movement. I honestly think he has another gear in him and could be world class if he is handled the right way. If West ham etc price us out of Bellamy then Yakubu could be the ideal option to turn to.

I am very suprised Boro are looking to let him go, despite a disappointing end to the season.

while searching through google world for Walter Hubert (because of the possible takeover talk) I found this article about a polish youngster on a trial at the academy (this is in polish, but use this translator on the bits you want to read, it produces a bit dodgy english but you'll get the idea of what it says). This is dated 2nd of February 2007, and the kid, named Marcin Chmura, says he's going back for the pre-season and it seems that Rovers are very keen to sign him.

The NOTW is reporting that Wigan want Savage.

Yep they're claiming that Wigan "have joined the race to join Savage" and also that we along with Everton Fulham and Boro "are in the race" to sign Zamora.

Must be this week's buzzword.

Can't understand where all these rumours about Savage leaving are coming from.
