  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

£6 million for Smith?

Sky Sports seem to think that Smith is on the verge of a £6 million move for Smith. He is a quality player that I would love to see join us, and we surely have a greater appeal than 'Boro. £6 million is a lot for our club to pay, but with the likes of Nugent linked with a £7 million bid and Bent with a £17 million bid, then that really would be a good deal.

Elsewhere:

Gudjohnsen: I want to stay

Not that we ever had a chance of getting him, but this probably puts an end to speculation of him returning to England.

Mido

Despite his obvious attitude problems and disapointing return last season, I still think he is a very good player. He doesn't seem keen on a move to Fulham, holding out for Man City, and Portsmouth are apparently interested. I'm sure we could sneak in ahead of both them clubs. Only if the price is right and we fail in our top transfer targets, mind.

Liverpool to use Cisse as make-weight in Torres deal

More news to make us believe that Bellamy is on his way. Hopefully this deal will be complated soon and we can make our move.

Would have been interesting if Julian Dicks were still playing - especially a tackle from behind!!

Going completely off-topic I remember Mark Bright wazzing himself on Five Live trying to get out the words "[southampton player who I've forgotten] has pulled Dickov down".

The abovementioned team should of course play their games at Wankdorf Stadion. Which, and I kid you not, is (Or was, there's a new one now) the home of the club "BSC Young Boys". You can't make stuff like that up :) Some headline I saw regarding the building of the new stadium read: "Young Boys Wankdrof erection woe" or something similar.

And yes, my sense of humour can be very childish.

They should play a pre-season friendly against Peruvian legends Deportivo Wanka.

You're not alone there :)

This has to stop. Cocker for mod!

Fanni's mum should be on mod watch for naming him that in the first place

Anyway, back on topic (and I dont know if this has already been said) but does anyone fancy Alan Smith for Rovers? 6M is a good price for him I think. He has turned down Boro because he wants european footy too - What do we think?

I don't like the guy much, he's becoming a bit of a positioning journeyman aswell. He's not creative enough to play in central midfield, but upfront he could probably play well for us. Not the perfect partner for McCarthy though, I would like someone with a bit more pace than Smith.

Like Nugent, just without the inflated price. Or Bellamy, without the inflated ego!

I agree that he isnt pacey enough and no good in midfeild however, I do think that he is still a quality striker and will give everything everyweek. If the reports are true that Roberts are true and he does want to move back down south and we do sell Fanny Jeffers (oops there I go again with the names) then Smith would be a better choice than Beattie anyway - I think

I do like Nugent but I think his heart is set on Everton

i dont think smith would improve our squad, whether playing as CM or CF. he's no better than what we already have.

assuming he'd be played as a CF, 6M is a lot of money, for someone who is not a proven goalscorer, and IMO he has yet to consistantly prove he's back to his best, following his injury.

it's 'a no' from me.

Smith is crap, and I don't understand why people rate him. No eye for goal, little pace, and little in the way of skill. All he can do is barge into defenders and slow down an attack by needing 3 touches to control a ball and then turn his back to goal. His natural level is probably a team like West Brom or Sheffield Utd, and if Boro are daft enough to pay almost 3 Benni McCartys for him, then let them. He'd be better than Beattie though, who does have a bit of skill, but no heart and desire to make anything of it.

I'd rather have a look at Eastwood or Sharp, on trial if that is possible. \It would be a £2m gamble for either, but I just feel it might come off.

He'd be good cover up front and in midfield, but £6m is a lot of money for cover. Of course if we start losing our current strikers then let's have him!

Sheffield Wednesday are bidding for Sharp. Still think it'd be too much of a gamble.

I don't know. £2m is a lot for a player unproven at the top level, but he is only 21, and can theoretically improve over time. Nugent would be more of a gamble for us right now at £6m or so, especially when you considerthat he hasn't actually scored that many goals. If Sharp was to flourish at 1st division level, he'd have a £5m+ pricetag, and would therefore be much more expensive for any Premiership club. He'd be better than Fanny Jeffers, and possibly Nonda anyway.
