budha Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Has anyone heard anything recently about Nikola Zigic, who we were linked with last summer? There was a story in a Finnish sports magazine saying that he is leaving Santander this summer. Even Wikipedia says: On 29 August 2006, Žigić signed a contract with the Spanish side Racing Santander for the next four seasons. On April 1st 2007, Žigić scored his first hat trick in La Liga.[1] Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Barcelona and Juventus have shown great interest in Žigić by trying to sign him. Tottenham will have another try when Nikola Žigić's contract with Spain's Racing Santander ends in Summer 2007. I can't imagine Tottenham nor Barcelona going after him at the moment (Bent, Henry). Any idea why his 4 year contract ends after the first year? If this is actually true, he would certainly be worth looking into.

USABlue Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Look in the top left hand corner of the post. The name "pleasure" should reassure you..............
den Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Don't believe this one [hopefully it wont happen]: Rovers enquire about Nicky Weaver.
USABlue Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Don't believe this one [hopefully it wont happen]: Rovers enquire about Nicky Weaver. Please god no!
RevidgeBlue Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 There does seem to be a logical connection between our activity thus far and nicko's revelations............ Rigters in and Fulham subsequently make an official bid for Roberts. Faroe Isles keeper in and Palace are supposedly interested in Brown.
LeChuck Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 It's a shame we're already sorted in central midfield department, as I think this guy would make an excellent signing: Sheff Utd after Gravesen. I can't believe there aren't any Premiership clubs after him. He was the complete midfielder at Everton and, at 31, I don't think he'll have lost much of that yet.
LeChuck Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Rigters in and Fulham subsequently make an official bid for Roberts. From what I've seen and read about Rigters, he does seem like a young Roberts. Providing he's good enough to do a job in the Premiership, then in my opinion Rovers' main aim now should be trying to flog Roberts for as much as possible then putting all that money towards a partner of genuine quality for McCarthy.
Cocker Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I have always like Roberts old strike partner Ellington. He is allot younger and I think could do a good job (though west brom didnt always think so for some reason) What say you people to that one being thrown into the hat
Hughesy Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I would think Fulham need to nearly double that offer to get Roberts. Any news on Bellamy now that Torres deal is complete? Nicko - Any interested parties in the likes of Gally? Please god let there be!
Blueboy Downunder Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 i slightly disgree gonzo, because of course it would depend on whom sparky brings in to replace roberts. do the math, jeffers and nonda gone and we are left with (providing roberts goes aswell) matt, benni and rigters. if sparky has another ace up his sleeve if roberts leaves, then i have no doubt that benni will stay, until at the very least january and cowould look at how we are doing in the league, with the view to possible qualification for champs league. now sparky has a player he wanted, i still think there is more to come and this will all pan out when the take over is complete, so taht he can make a big splash on a top notch player.
Hughesy Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Takeover? Whats that? Its gone abit quiet on that front!
USABlue Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Rigters in and Fulham subsequently make an official bid for Roberts. What's the offer? Fulham perhaps just testing the waters because we did get Rigters. Perhaps they are thinking Roberts could be surplus to requirements
joey_big_nose Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 What's the offer? Fulham perhaps just testing the waters because we did get Rigters. Perhaps they are thinking Roberts could be surplus to requirements It has been reported that Roberts is looking for a move back down south. It might be agreed between Hughes and Roberts that he can go if we get enough cash. I suppose it all depends on what Hughes thinks Rigters is capable of. If he reckons the Dutch lad can walk into the starting lineup (and seeing as he signed for us without even going up to Celtic this might be something Hughes said that made him want to instantly sign) then Roberts could be off. If Rigters can make the leap and Roberts wants to go then a bid of 4m+ could see everybody happy. Hughes is extraordinarily good at this sort of thing so I am totally confident Rovers are going to come out of this very well.
b12_simon Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I have always like Roberts old strike partner Ellington. He is allot younger and I think could do a good job (though west brom didnt always think so for some reason) What say you people to that one being thrown into the hat A good call I reckon. He's not been that impressive at West Brom but would get better service with us. The prospect of another season's Championship football should be giving him (and any other decent player at the Hawthorns) itchy feet.
LeChuck Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 What's the offer? Fulham perhaps just testing the waters because we did get Rigters. Perhaps they are thinking Roberts could be surplus to requirements £2.5 million apparently USA. I think that's very good for an opening offer, especially if it's just 'testing the water'. If we can get them to stick another £1 million or so on top, I'd take it. Add £3.5 million to what we must already have to spend and Bellamy suddenly becomes well within our reach. Granted, he still might not come, but I'd trust Sparky not to waste £7 million or so on a Grabbi.
Cocker Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 A good call I reckon. He's not been that impressive at West Brom Thats the weird thing. I watched a few games with him in last year and he always looked quality but then the next game he would be on the bench again. Just a case of liking Philips and Kamara I guess
Hughesy Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I would hope that given the extra income, that we already have the money available to purchase Bellamy without having to sell.
AndyC Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I would hope that given the extra income, that we already have the money available to purchase Bellamy without having to sell. extra income is going a long way to subsidising ticket prices....and keeping the players we do have on decent wages so that they dont all get itchy feet... but yes - I'd hope we have some cash in the coffers to go for bellers. The one downside, is that he's so competitive, it's going to be hard for him to leave playing in the Champs League in front of packed crowds, to being back at Ewood.....
den Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 extra income is going a long way to subsidising ticket prices.... Not really. I'm sure I read from the club that the reduced prices would cost around £1m. From that, take away the extra revenue from more ST sales, then compare that against the extra Sky money. A drop in the ocean.
Hughesy Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Yeah as Den said the club said it would cost approx £1 million. That leaves us with alot of extra cash compared to last year. I would hope we have a kitty of at least £10 million if we want to progress further. Otherwise we will get left behind. £10 million if a fair figure based on our usual spend and the extra money now available for being in the premier league. I think with Roberts anything of £4 million + should be taken.
youandwhosearmy Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 I think 2.5 million is such a poor offer...and i bet they know it
Dr Gonzo Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 i slightly disgree gonzo, because of course it would depend on whom sparky brings in to replace roberts. do the math, jeffers and nonda gone and we are left with (providing roberts goes aswell) matt, benni and rigters. if sparky has another ace up his sleeve if roberts leaves, then i have no doubt that benni will stay, until at the very least january and cowould look at how we are doing in the league, with the view to possible qualification for champs league. now sparky has a player he wanted, i still think there is more to come and this will all pan out when the take over is complete, so taht he can make a big splash on a top notch player. I see your point, but I reckon if Benni is sulking (and he does seem to be quite an immature fellow) then the departure of his 'second wife' isn't going to help matters. I do think that this 'I want to play for a Champions League club' is a slight euphemism for 'I want to Play for ManU, Liverpool or a big club in London'... We'll see. I can see us losing both Benni and Roberts and us replacing them adequaltely... Look at the loss of Lucas. We did ok..
