if anyone deserves a bit of luck its him, his carrer has rocketed down hill, and i would love to see all franny back that was scoring week in week out at everton and arsenal, but to do this he needs to be given a fair chance in the side which he didnt get last year and looks like its going to be the smae this year. though when sparky bought him he hoped to see the old jeffers back and all franny wanted was to be given a chance :rover:

I still think that we need to be looking to sign 2 players who can be in our 1st team squad and soon be pushing for places. We need to sign a Creative midfielder (someone young and who is going to improve – unless there is someone in the youth?!) to take over from Tugay and to push Reid, Savage, Mokoena & Dunn.

Personally I think Alan Smith is the man who can do a job for us and he gives us options as he can play in the middle, upfront or even on the wing. He can also mix it up when we need to and he can cover for the likes of Savage if ever suspended. He has a desire to win and he always gives 110%. I think in terms of the market, he is one of, if not the best player available for the prices being banded about.

Alan Smith has never been the man for the job.

It is all about having the right mixture of players up-front.

I would say we have a good mix at the moment - Benni's flair, Roberts power, Derbyshire's energy/youthful enthusiasm. Not sure about Rigters....

We could do with some real pace....Bellamy would have been perfect.

Agree on the pace & Bellamy, as our midfield isn't that pacey either. From the games I've seen from him, Santa Cruz wouldn't fill up that void, but someone like Camara perhaps would.

Interested to hear Larry Sanchez comments yesterday on Kamara. He said one of the things he noticed in his short time at Fulham, was that they lacked pace in key areas.

We seem to lack pace in a lot of areas.

I know we had injuries, but a lot of the attacking football we played last season was dis-jointed in my view. We lacked a flow to our play and we never seemed to be able to play with sufficient tempo in certain games.

It does not seem like we will be buying a midfielder (who knows though), so we will be relying a lot of Steven Reid to return successfully and Dunn to show the form of 3 seasons ago.

It's far too early to suggest we won't be buying a midfielder. The transfer window has just opened.

As for lacking pace, yes we do, however, there's little point in overpaying for average footballers just because they have a little speed. I'd be gutted if we'd laid out £6m for Kamara.

Savage and Mokoena are reliable players, you know what you get by fielding them. So it's up to Tugay, Reid and especially Dunn to succeed alongside them / instead of them. I don't think central midfield should be 1st priority anymore, more so a two-footed winger/fullback and a striker.

Kamara is a very interesting signing by the way, I've always liked him. Remember seeing him play in Italy (Modena was it?), at that time clubs like Roma and Inter were interested (that Roma rumour seems to be hanging on still) and he was compared to Thierry Henry as a similar type of player. Wouldn't be surprised to see him score quite a few goals next season, and with that price tag he obviously should too. Then again, he's under very little pressure - Fulham fans are used to see Steve £11m Marlet - I'm sure Kamara can be half as good! :D

Or £10 Million on a kid. after lumping £20 Million on Torres.

Quality prospect, exciting winger - just what they need.

£13.5 million now according to The BBC via Ajax

Having never seen him play, maybe this is a bit unwarranted but that seems like a bit over the top TBH. Not proportionate with our ambitions any road up. But for £13.5 Million, I would expect him to be Finney mark 2.

That would mean Liverpool spending £34 Million on two foreign players never tried in the Prem.

Wigan on fire - they have completed the signing of Koumas -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...tic/6748685.stm

"There were a number of other Premiership clubs interested in him, which makes me even more delighted he's chosen to join us."

Wonder which other clubs were interested - If I was Koumas, I would have gone to most other clubs ahead of Wigan!

:rover: koumas is a fine player, but at £5.3m you have to think twice, wigan know they have to improve their squad after last years close shave, and jason does that, would he be better than anyone in our 1st eleven?celtic were very keen :brfc:

money talks, john. koumas will be on a fortune.

that said, i think wigan mustve been the only northwest side interested.

I doubt he will be on a fortune, but I think all in all, it is a decent price for Koumas. He was widely regarded by many as the best player in the Championship last season. He is also still quite young and probably yet to reach his potential.

We might lack pace, but I thought we looked very good on teh counter attack at times last season. When Bellamy was playing for us, his pace was a constant threat in itself. A player in his mould would have been perfect.

I will be very disapointed if we don't bring in at least one more player. We really need a quality striker to progress in this league and, after three seasons of barely spending, now is the time to really push the boat out. Of course it depends on whether the right player is available, but I refuse to believe that there isn't a striker out there that Hughes would want, if given the money.

Rovers were linked with this dude in the past, and seems he is on a free now, and is going to have a trial at West Ham.

Hammers eye Okkas swoop

Beginning to look like West Ham's strategy for this season is to sign every striker available and thus deny their services to any other club. How fiendishly cunning is that?

Does anyone know the method is which West Ham is funding this multi million pound spending spree ( im including wages ), is their a multi/billion behind egghead or are they speculating to accumulate ( getting themselves in ridiculous amount of debt) or has their been some sort of shares sell off thus generating cash like spurs have done

SSN reporting that Jeffers move to Ipswich is off. Can't agree personal terms.

Found a link.

Ipswich reckon they offered him a deal that could have seen him earning more at Portman Rd, than he was at Ewood.

The same story is in the LT today-at least that the transfer is off.

He has no ambition, it seems, content to be a bench-warmer knowing that because he plays for Spuds he'll get picked for England anyway. I'd love him to buck up and demand minutes on the pitch or a transfer away, but he doesn't seem bothered, and reportedly there have been teams enquiring.

As for Alan Smith, he works hard, not smart. His finishing for United last season was abysmal (and I say that having watched Nonda) and his all round play lacked vision. As well as that he has a real tendency for stupid sending offs, then why would anyone want him here for £6m? Any other club and he'd be on Franny Jeffers value. He'd be another Sparky rehabilitation case, and there's enough of those!
