  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

There's a surprise.

Not.

Sparky must be getting desperately frustrated with the lack of financial backing he's seemingly getting. Can't honestly see him being here beyond this season unless there is a change of ownership or a distinct sea change in policy from the current ones.

Unfortunately not enough to back him with hard cash it seems.

Incredibly Sparky has a nil net transfer spend since taking over nearly three seasons ago. If it really was the case he'd had money available to him each summer but he'd somehow managed to prosper without spending any of it, he'd be in the fortunate position now of being able to spend 15-20m on a player. Even without the new TV deal.

That quite obviously isn't the case so realistically it seems that he hasn't had any net funding at his disposal since taking over and, it seems, he quite possibly has none this summer, despite the extra TV money coming in.

If he was told when he came "Sorry Mark, you are under no pressure whatsoever to sell anyone but if you want to buy you'll have to raise the money by wheeling and dealing within the existing squad" I suppose it's fair enough to the extent he knew the score.

Until now, after which with the new TV deal you'd have thought he might get considerably more leeway, especially with his track record to date.

(Saying this partially in the hope that we will make an outstanding signing for 10m plus tomorrow and I'll end up with egg on my face)

Rev, I take it you've seen Hughes' interview by now, he's actually said in his last two interviews that he wants to bring more players in.

He came out last night before the Wrexham game and said he expected to add to the squad before the start of the season.

Only just saw that Tuncay signed for Boro (I'm sure it has been mentioned on here at some point), that could be a very, very good signing.

I agree totally. Was really sad when I heard he had gone to them for next to nothing.

Speaking of bargains. Allegedly Chippen, alias Christian Wilhelmson, is for sale at 500K. Fast, technically gifted and can play on both wings as well as forward - dont worry its not what I know from Footy man. Its said that three premiership clubs are in there. Really hope we are to as this is certainly a bargain.

Haven't seen that much of him but I remember thinking that he was one of Sweden's most dangerous players in the world cup. Caused havoc down the right in nearly every match.

I thought he was underpriced at £500k too ... but one good tournament doesn't mean he'd be a consistant performer for Rovers.

He has no ambition, it seems, content to be a bench-warmer knowing that because he plays for Spuds he'll get picked for England anyway. I'd love him to buck up and demand minutes on the pitch or a transfer away, but he doesn't seem bothered, and reportedly there have been teams enquiring.

Why is it that when a player moves he is greedy and a mercenary, but when he wants to stay at his club and fight for his place he has no ambition?

'Chippen' is excellent on his day, but like herbergeehh says consistency isn't his forte. If Pedersen or Bentley was to leave, he'd be a good replacement, but as it is we don't need him.

You are right. He is on and off just like MGP. I think he has been that way must of his career. I used to talk to him now and then when he played at Stabæk. Since we have MGP and Bentley I don't see why we need the same type of midfield player. Would much rather see us sign someone like Kristofer Hæstad.

Reading are reportedly after Hoyte for £2mil. If Hughes is after a defender he'd be the one to go after. Very good player and English...

we were after him last summer, we wanted a season-long loan.

think we've got different targets now, like the besiktas fella, mentioned on the nicko thread.

Chopra loks like he is going to Sunderland for a crazy £5 MILLION!!

He aint premiership class, as proven when Newcastle let him go for naff all

These transfer prices are scandalous at the moment, and for that reason, I dont think Rovers will sign any other proven players this summer. Best we can hope for is an unknown foreigner, a free agent or a loan deal.

He was terrible when he played for Wigan. Don't see him doing any better for us. We need players who can improve the squad, not just make it bigger.

Yes, he was terrible at Wigan. Main reason being he came from the winter break in Norway and straight into first team action against Chelsea. Made one big mistake and was out in the cold. I think hæstad could be the new Savage.

If Chopra is worth £5 million then the likes of Defoe at £8 - 10 million & Kanoute @ £10 million are bargains!!

Koumas for £5.3 million was bad enough!!

Its only going to get worse with all the foreign money flooding into the game.

Bellamy for 7.5 mill is bad enough given he has hardly played a game last season and Liverpool actually made a 1.5 mill profit on him.

The Koumas deal is laughable.

When Sav's past it, the only person I'd want us to replace him with is Jimmy Bullard.

How many goals did Nugent score last season? I don't see why Nugent at 6 million is any better than a player like Chopra, who scored 22 goals last year (I believe), at 5 million. It appears as though some of you have had your eyes closed for the last 10 or 15 years and have only just realised that sometimes clubs pay a lot of money for not amazing players. At the same time, if any of these players then turns in very good seasons next year I am sure everyone will be talking about what a steal a 15-20 goal a season striker of that age is at only 5 million.

With players like Chopra going for £5m, Kamara 6m and Nugent 6m, it makes you realise just how much wehave missed out on not re-signing Bellamy.

This really should belong in the 'Bellamy' thread, but I'd have to say whilst £5/6m compares favourably to £7.5m that Bellamy went for, his wages were astonomical (~£20m over the 5 years)! Not really a fair comparison imo.

Yup - just as Andy Johnson wasn't Prem class as proved by Birmingham letting him go for naff all (or something approaching...).

Chopra will, imo, be well worth the money. People are too quick to dismiss players after one failed stint. There can be many reasons for a player failing at a club - and the possibility of the player not being good enough is just one of many, and not always the relevant one. I'd rather have Chopra in my team than Nugent.

But definately the most significant one.

Chopra vs Nugent, have you been on the wacky t'baccy?

I'm still not sold on Nugent either, 6M for 18 championship goals. I'll bet Matty scores more per minute of footy played next season.

I lay my reputation (in all its glory) that serious injuries permitting, Chopra will out score Nugent.

BTW with all these inflated prices, the sensible manager would be looking to his youth to save the club millions. Derbyshire can surely be as good, if not better, than Chopra. Decent pace and an eye for goal can get you far, it seems.
