  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

Clearly the owenership of our club is going to hold us back in the market at present. Why would the Trustees want to splash out cash when they're currently in the process of trying to sell the club? Obviously it would have been nice to have had the situation sorted before the window closes but I don't think that's going to be the case.

As some have mentioned though, despite some injured players coming back it is imperative to move forward each season and for that to happen then we must strenghten. If we did continue to spend the least in the Premiership season after season then in the end it will surely catch up with us what with the new television deal? Even if you think back to when Bolton spent nothing and did well it was because of the high wages that they were offering Okocha, Stelios, Djorkaeff and co.

One thing that's occurred to me with this summer's transfer madness. There'll be a lot of very new squads out there, taking time to learn how their teammates play. With our first team's relative stability we should have a month or 2 head start on our rivals.

Expect a flying start from Rovers!

It's just a fan's site, nothing official at all. They just post mostly their own opinions, some of which are (sorry guys) rubbish, some downright embarrassing and others news regurgitated from other sites and sources.

We've had a shocking start for the lst two seasons, if we had a decent start we would have pushed for Champions League 2 seasons ago and UEFA cup last season.

But saying that, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle!

FFS! lazy players do not score 24 goals. He is an intelligent football player that's not about chasing dead balls. Would you rather a Dickov esqu battering ram in place?

No he is lazy looking, but some of the best strikers are/were. Cole, RvN, etc. They are CFs who just stand in the middle and tap it in. Benni has more flair and skill than them but there is no doubt he is a very lazy looking player. He has no awareness to get himself back on at times, but his record speaks for itself and your much better off with him in the team.

Dickov had many problems, most of all being he couldn't hit the target enough. If he could have then his style could have been very effective.

Hopefully with the fact we have to play 'competitive' games before the season - hopefully our boys will come out all cylinders firing.

I think our attack line is good enough, however I dont like the fact that if we get a big injury to say benni then we only have roberts, derbs, rigters & gally.

P!sses me off that so many people sl@g off the biggest talent we've had in years :wstu:

But i didn't slag him off! All I meant was that we could get so much more out of him with someone who could be a handful to the defence while Benni sneaks around for the goals. Remember the spells with Benni not scoring the last season, and just think of what he could accomplish with a steady form... 30 goals a season for sure.

I still believe the likes of Alan Smith or maybe a similar type of player but younger would be a great addition to our squad.

Can someone please explain to me what all the fuss is about A.smith ?, yes he runs about a lot and is aggressive but look at his overall goal scoring record ( aside from the season rfw played him in midfield). I’m guessing his record is probably in comparison to another similar player Dickov around 1 in every 4. What’s all the fuss about he isn’t a player with burning pace, he isn’t a natural finisher, he is no better than average in the air and he is certainly not technically gifted. He will never score more than 15 in season regularly. He is just a player that the media has built up IMO Roberts will score more than him if he played for United.

I'd rather keep Roberts any day, but if there was any truth in his being homesick (I think it's grade-1 cobblers, for what it's worth) I reckon the Emmerdale Eminem would be a great replacement.

I think Hughsey and the other guys who have 50 Cent as their avatar have a thing for his bleached hair. That and they want to mother him because of that broken leg. Smith is just Paul Dickov, but a bit younger and taller. Nothing more.

Thats a bit harsh, though i can see what your intimating, for me Alan Smith would be an excellent signing, still youngish, aggressive and skillful for me he would be ideal and a definite no risks attached despite his recent leg break.

I think Mark Hughes and his staff should have the belief that they can improve him and that they and the rest of the team will also be good from Alan Smith's point of view.

I would take Alan Smith. He is a high quality player, and definately the sort of character that Hughes would appreciate have in the team due to his work rate and attitude. Along side a player liek McCarthy he could do a lot of damage.

Its a question of him being available at the right price. For me that would be c. 4m and the is next to no chance of that due to the money lunacy that is going on.

For what its worth I have a funny feeling we are going to sign Mido. And I think he will do well for us.

Thats 233 appaerences and only 45 goals so at that rate if Smith plalyed 40 games a sesaon he would average a staggering 8 goals a season

And before people say he has played in midfield, over 80% of those games would have been as a striker. Not sure but I reckon Paul dickov has a better goals to game ration than that. If smith wasn’t English the media nor anyone else would be bothered about him. If he is such a good striker why did RFW try to convert him into a midfielder?, I didn’t see him doing it with Yorke Cole or Van Nistlrooy

Well, at the time United had an obvious hole to fill in midfield after Keane had left and Ferguson thought Smith could do it (and he did it quite well). Smith isn't a goalscorer, but he is a very good player and I would happily see him at he club, although not for the amount being mentioned at the moment. You also have to consider that those statistics will have been affected not only by his use in midfield (which I think sometimes happened to him at Leeds as well), but also substitute appearances, which happened quite a lot both at Leeds behind JFH and Viduka and at United. Very good player, but probably not the right man for us at this moment in time.

im not sure about smith.....he seems more of a dunn or a reid type (before you all start, i know they're not so similar, but you get my point!!!!).....and what we need is a bit of pace up top....but for around 2 million smith would be worth a look.....but that aint gonna happen.

His goal to game ration isn't brilliant but I think what we are looking for is someone Hughes can turn around and get the best out of. We can't compete in terms of wages or transfer fees for proven Premiership strikers. We have to gamble on players like Bellamy, Rigters, Roberts. Essentially the reason I feel he would be a decent signing is that I think Hughes could coach and alter his game and maximise those assets he does have to make him into a very good forward for us.

All of the players who play in our very good team did not have steller records when we got them in with the exception of McCarthy- from Freidal to Nelsen to Reid to Bentley to Roberts. The game we play is reconditioning those who are out of sorts or unearthing unheralded talents. And, at the right price, Smith could imo do well for us.
