brfc fan Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Perhaps I'm under-selling our top players but this is my evaluation McCarthy: £7M Bentley: £8M MGP: £6M If they played for top 4 or a London team then their stock would rise but - they play for the Rovers. We should be proud of these players, as we should of the many more that are under-rated in this bullsh*t league! I'd probably say Benni for £12, Bents for £15 and MGP £10.

roversmum Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Can't stand Smith and won't even think about selling the others...
philo Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 heres a good website: http://www.football-rumours.co.uk/index.html
benhben Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Surely if were still interested in targets we need to sell first. Were gonna end up with 5 or 6 players that are un needed. IF were still in for a striker well have Benni, Roberts, Reigters, Derbyshire, Gallagher, Jeffers and Possible new transfer. Thats possibly 7 strikers. Get some off the wage budget. Gallagher and Jeffers should be shown the door in my opinion.
krislu Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is hot on the trail of Manchester United's £8m striker Alan Smith. (Daily Star) Dear God!
Wolves_Rover Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 If Alan 'one goal a season' Smith is worth 8m - no less than £50m for Benni then
The1mattjansen Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 They have not excactly purchased any player better than they had last season with the exception of davis is the point I was trying to make. The players they have signed dont exactly make the pulse race do they ? But at the same time you don't get 6 pulse racers in one summer and for 17m, only Hugh Hefner works miracles like that. I think when they were looking to rebuild a completely useless team in a matter of weeks, Sanchez has done a fairly respectable job...we'll have to wait and see were they finish i suppose. What odds are you giving me on at top 12 finish Roverite?
Bing Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Talk of Kieran Richardson going to Sunderland for....£5.5m. Absolutely potty.
John Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 If that fee is correct, then that is £10 million for two players for Sunderland - Chopra and Richardson. I doubt either would get into our starting eleven. I suppose Sunderland have to (try to) strengthen, but can't say I am jealous....
philipl Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Astonished that the Roy Keane/Niall Quinn cachet is not attracting better players to Wearside. I had assumed they would have some gems lined up. Being realistic, Chopra would be behind all of our four strikers so would not get on the bench at Rovers whilst Richardson would not displace Savage or Bentley and would be behind any of MGP, Dunn, Reid and Tugay if they hit the form they are capable of. I am absolutely delighted the Rovers are sitting out the window at the moment. I might be on my own but outside of Man U and Chelsea's signings, nobody has bought anybody which strikes me as a serious threat. A lot of squad deepening going on though.
joey_big_nose Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Talk of Kieran Richardson going to Sunderland for....£5.5m. Absolutely potty. Richardson strikes me as as similar to Bentley. Looks out of sorts without regular football but could if managed correctly be a real asset. But to pay 5m for that gamble is ludicrous, even if he is a left footer.
John Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Roy Keane said at the start of the summer that the type of players he was after were making him 'fall off his seat'. He went on to say it takes a lot to get him excited but the players he was targeting were of the highest quality. It seems like he has shifted targets. I do think Richardson has looked a good player in glimpses in the past, so he may come good...
daren Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Bear in mind that Keane had plenty of opportunities to keep an eye on Richardson at Utd as he developed.

I might be on my own but outside of Man U and Chelsea's signings, nobody has bought anybody which strikes me as a serious threat. What about Liverpool? If Torres ain't a serious threat then who is. I would say Chelsea have done worse than ManU, Liverpool and perhaps so far this transfer window.
krislu Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I do think Richardson has looked a good player in glimpses in the past, so he may come good... Agree, I think he is a good player with pace and skill. He's been in the England squad right?
Roar of the Rover Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 If Alam Smith wasn't at Utd i don't think he would be rated at 8 Million. He's probably worth around 3 Million.
philipl Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I might be totally wrong but Torres seems not to have developed the way it seemed he might have done. He could thrive in the high intensity English game but there are indications he might not. I wouldn't underestimate Chelsea's acquisitions even though they have not cost a lot and certainly put them as a much better set of recruits for playing in the EPL than Liverpool's. Malouda is a real talent who will cut through Premiership oppositions whilst Sidwell, Ben Haim and Pizarro give the Chelsea squad backbone they were missing last season. Rovers would be strengthened by all of them going straight into the starting eleven. As for Liverpool's signings compared with Rovers' existing players - who will be seen to have had the greater impact in his first season in the Prem- Torres or McCarthy? - which player looks like being the biz in the Prem based on recent UEFA u-21 performances (both were good in that tournament)- Babel or Rigters? - the more effective back-up striker- Voronin or Roberts? - which is the flakier- Benayoun or Dunn? - better tricks- Benayoun or Tugay? As for Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson- they are two players who were world beaters at u-21 but have spent too long in the OT reserves comfort zone. Could come good but a crucial few years too old to be able to expect them to build their game from where it is now in the way Bentley has completely re-thought his approach since arriving at Rovers. They could come very good for their purchasers but are more likely to be an embarassment.
krislu Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 It's one thing being optimistic, but this is silly. Liverpool were 16p infront of us last season and its going to be more this season if we don't make some quality signings.
Cocker Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Funny story of the day just came up on sky. Newcastle are after Ronaldhniho - yes I know, I nearly spat my brew at the telly. Barca want 68m. Even if some miracle happened and he decided to go there I reckon he is too old to be paying that sort of cash for.

I think we all know that (apart from within the freedom of contract situation) the old RFW does NOT part with players who have anything to offer. All his 'dead wood' has proven in the past to be just that.
Ricky Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Old diego forlan hasnt done too bad for himself either
brfc fan Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I'm still shocked at the state of Arsenal. They've lost Henry but don't seem to have made any attempt to find a replacement. But the fans still believe they'll qualify for the Champions League. I really think that this is the best time ever for a club to break into the top four and that club could be us.
