  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

 Funny story of the day just came up on sky. Newcastle are after Ronaldhniho - yes I know, I nearly spat my brew at the telly. Barca want 68m. Even if some miracle happened and he decided to go there I reckon he is too old to be paying that sort of cash for.

I have been saying that he is too old but actually only just looked him up - HE IS ONLY 27  I could have sworn he was about 31. Yes thats allot of money but he is quality and has a good few years left so I banish my other statement saying hes too old

All I was saying is that we could have easily ended up with Mido instead...

Fair enough. I thought you meant we need some luck after missing out on brilliant Mido and ending up with rubbuish McCarthy.

I'm with the "transfer window is going well" camp. We've long term injuries coming back (hopefully to full effect unlike, say, Thommo and Jansen) and are hanging on to our key players.

I think it's clear that Benni's not a target for anyone. There's been little talk about Bentley and MGP lately. Add to that there's a good chance of a tidy profit on Jeffers.

Roberts is a worry, though a returning Beattie could fill that role (not as well IMO).

Looking around the 2nd tier of the Premiership, I reckon there's only West Ham that have really leapt forward. I expect us to be pushing for a 3rd consecutive European campaign.

I'd love it if they did sign him. They'd have some Owen-like clause in his contract meaning other clubs could talk to him for a couple of pints and a kebab!

Not sure its a good idea to make as many changes as teams like Fulham have. It takes time for a team to gel and really learn how each other plays. I think we could be in a good position by just adding 1 or 2 players to our already talented squad.

Agree, 2-3 quality additions and we will be sorted in my view.

Maybe we're saving all our money for a bid on Ronaldinho as the Tugay replacement!

I wouldn't be happy with that. You can't replace an absolute legend with just anyone. Besides Ronnie wouldn't come, they're big boots to fill.

5 years ago when he lobbed Seaman was really his breakout. I actually thought he was 25 or 26 before you looked it up.

I know we're all just being greedy and that signing Rigters and possibly Beattie will be decent deals but I just love the big spending and the anticipation of wanting to see that new player as quickly as possible, why have we spent this much on him lets go and see, etc.... everyone getting his name on their new shirt before we know he's a Grabbi, just want some excitment going into the new season.

patience people !! hughes knows what he is doing, we still have 7WEEKS left of the transfer window and our injured players are slowly returning. having reid back will be like signing a new player and hopefully if we have better luck with injuries than last season, we will do very well again this season.last season we only finished 8 points off spuds (5th place) with rarely a settled team until after xmas.i have no doubts we will finish in the top 6 this season with the squad we have.

Repoerts suggest that Chelsea have agreed terms with Milan to sell Chevhenko for £15m and will turn to McCarthy as replacement

Mourinho to return to 4-3-3 formation.

Hopefully that means Mourinho won't be after another striker. They'd still have Drogba, Pizarro and Kalou fighting over one position, adding McCarthy to would seem to cause more problems than it would solve. The likelihood is that Shevchenko is being sold (if it is true) now that they've secured Malouda; sacrificing a striker for a winger makes sense after reading that article.

Kalou is more of a winger than a striker though, and certainly in a 4-3-3 formation. We'll just have to wait and see, if I was Mourinho I would hold on to Shevchenko for another season, but hey - I'm not. £15m for Shevchenko, anything under £10m for McCarthy should be ignored, anything under £15m should be rejected. That is, unless Hughes has another striker in sight.

He'll certainly play on the wing as well, but I expect him to be third choice up front also. Surely Mourinho has learnt from the Wright-Phillips* episode that Chelsea simply don't play enough games to keep four wingers happy, and I can't imagine any of Cole, Malouda, Robben or Kalou being happy at playing the odd one out. Having Kalou as a winger/striker and the three others as out-and-out wingers would seem to suit his side better.

Also, hasn't Mourinho always stated that he likes to work with a 21 man squad? Well, with Glen Johnson and Shevchenko included, they have 23, and the odds seem against either of those staying at the club. I could, of course, be clutching at straws because I want McCarthy to stay, but everything does seem to point towards McCarthy not being at Stamford Bridge in my opinion.

*Noticed that Wright-Phillips wasn't included in Mourinho's list of 'wingers'. I wonder what the odds are of him returning to Man City before the window shuts?

Well they are probably like us, no ambition, not backing their manager with cash. I think the Arse will do well, even after Henry.

Its a bit early to get you knickers in a twist. 4 weeks till the start of the season, six weeks till the window closes.

Sorry I should have waved my "being a sarcastic @#/?" flag.

£15m being somewhat less than the asking price (for obvious reasons in Shevchenko's case and with Benitez's curent valuation of Peter Crouch being another) I would hope!
