Lathund Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I think Ghaly is a pretty good player, but he's also the wrong type of player for us right now.

Florida Rover Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 To me,this is crazy talk in this article that we would give cash and Jason Roberts just to get Beattie.Nonsensical really but considering this is a manc blog I won't lose any sleep over it. Does strike legend Mark Hughes hold the key to making Alan Smith’s Everton dream come true?
HairwayToSteven Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 City linked with Nery Castillo. A bit depressing really, as we are so much better than City, but cannot compete financially. I'd love for Sparky to try though. For those who didn't watch Copa America, Castillo was immense for Mexico and scored some great goals, especially the one against the winners of the tournament, Brazil. Sky cites him as a midfielder, but he played as a forward for Mexico, I'm thinking Sky got this one wrong. Not a big name, but an immense prospect with almost unlimited potential.
herbergeehh Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I believe he can play on the wings and upfront, a great prospect. No price mentioned, £4-5m perhaps? Contracted to 2010, but if he does want to leave I'm sure it will be sorted. But probably out of our league financially, as you mention.
EwoodGlory Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Mido set for 'Big Club' Mido Egyptian star striker Ahmed Hossam "Mido" is set to join Birmingham city on loan starting from next season, according to the player himself. "Both sides have agreed terms. I will move on a one-year-loan deal to Birmingham worth 1 million and at the end they could by my contract for 5 million if the club survives in the Premier League," said Mido to FilGoal.com. "Birmingham's offer is the best I had received especially that I chose to stay in England," added Mido. The 24-year-old striker also confirmed Birmingham's interest in his fellow teammate Hossam Ghaly but said his case is different as he will move on a permanent base. "I would love to have him (Ghaly) with me in the same team." Mido confirmed that the contracts should be signed on Monday night or maximum Tuesday morning
RevidgeBlue Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Could be an inspired signing for Brum if having a regular starting slot inspires him to rediscover his best form.
roversmum Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 What the deuce would he want to go to that den of iniquity for?
joey_big_nose Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Mido set for 'Big Club' Sounds like a very good deal, taking him on loan with an option to buy (which can always be renegotiated) is an absolute steal in this market. i would much prefer him to Beattie...
tcj_jones Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 How many bloody strikers do Birmingham have now?! That must be at least six, maybe even eight!

All time leading scorer in Mexico, did nowt here.
USABlue Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Mido set for 'Big Club' Hallelujah, thank you Lord. We can put that one to bed, or rather I can sleep better knowing he's not coming here.
Philly Rover ® Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 The Mido to Brum story has me even more miffed about his snub of Rovers last summer. Who decides that a UEFA Cup side is not worth going to, but that a newly promoted one (with a crap manager, might I add) is? All in all it worked out because we got McCarthy; I certainly wouldn't want Mido here at this point, but it is somewhat exasperating watching this happen. I guess it's as philip said: they deserve each other.
gazsimm Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 i rather have defoe then beattie and mido, but i think sadly we won't get defoe
bob fleming Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Defoe would be too much. Stupid London prices. Besides if we're looking for a target man he hardly fit's the bill.
gazsimm Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Defoe would be too much. Stupid London prices. Besides if we're looking for a target man he hardly fit's the bill. have we not already got a target man in Roberts though?
Cocker Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Defoe would be too much. Stupid London prices. Besides if we're looking for a target man he hardly fit's the bill. Its such a shame though that good players like Defoe - SWP etc just let their careers pass them by. Everyone knows that Defoe will propbably get a run out in the Carling cup for spuds and SWP probably the same. Why these players dont request transfers is beyond me.

bob fleming Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 have we not already got a target man in Roberts though? Not for me, no. I think Roberts strength is getting the ball down and running at people. I wouldn't say he was anything special in the air. Probably a bit harsh, I think he's a good player and we should keep him.
Ronin Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 What the deuce would he want to go to that den of iniquity for? Could be that ol Big Club are in the process of getting a new owner (who has just bought the majority of shares from the porno boys), so money, as always, could be the motivation?!
b12_simon Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 they are not doing their England careers any good as well sitting on the subs bench nearly every week At the risk of sounding cynical, nor would playing for us
