  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

Not for me, no. I think Roberts strength is getting the ball down and running at people. I wouldn't say he was anything special in the air. Probably a bit harsh, I think he's a good player and we should keep him.

I think in full flight Roberts is an extremely exciting player to watch bob. I'm not really certain the big old fashioned lump up front (Beattie) will enhance our style of play unless it's a chuck the kitchen sink at it with 5 mins to go job. (Similar to when Kuqi used to come on)

One word, Borgetti. All time leading scorer in Mexico, did nowt here.

Ah yes, the convincing logic of "One player of nationality X did poorly, so this one will too". Not all Mexicans are exactly the same you know.

I'm finding this transfer window more and more depressing. The teams around us almost all appear to have improved, some vastly, and we have pretty much sat still. I know there is a long time left in the window, but it is looking more and more likely that are starting line-up on the first day of this season will be the same as it would have been towards the end of last year and it has been shown time and time again that standing still is going backwards. I know people will bring up players returning from injuries, but the only player we didn't have last season really was Reid and he has yet to prove his fitness again.

West Ham and the top 3 have improved vastly. The rest have just spent tons of cash but whether they've improved is yet to be seen. With our stability (and other clubs like Everton) I epect a good start from Rovers.

If Reid's his old self I expect a very good start.

Who around us has improved where? Other than some basket cases are not quite so bad now (Birmingham, Fulham and Newcastle come to mind).

Lots of dosh going around but no signings that are frightening me outside of OT. Liverpool- let's see if thisworks for them in the EPL although I do see them being even more potent in the Cups.

PS West Ham have lost Tevez- that is not compensated for by their signings to date. Squad depth is also currently down following other sales and releases.

Agreed Philipl. I would say that Liverpool and Chelsea have strtengthened but would be hard pushed to match Manchester Uniteds transfer activity this year.

Portsmouth have spent a fair bit but thavent really added anyone who would dislodge any of our first team players.

Fulham have spent a lot and again I don't think too many of the signings would get into our team.

I'm still of the view that wholesale changes aren't needed at Ewood. I'd be happy if we started the season with our 5 forwards, would like to see a creative midfielder, a real playmaker to replace our aging turkish legend.

i`m not sure west ham have improved much. the reason they were down near the bottom of the league was the fact they conceded too many goals.their defence is the same and i also think curbishley isn`t that good a manager.if west ham finish in the top half of the table i think they can consider that a good season.

In the same way that Jeffers came on and did well.

I'd like to see them both given a chance to be honest. Just wonder if Gally could play in that position against some of the best midfielders in the world on a week in week out basis

Spurs, Portsmouth, Boro (depending how the Yakubu transfer goes and any possible replacement) and Newcastle have certainly improved. Everton, Villa and Bolton have probably stayed pretty much the same, although Bolton might be slightly worse off having lost Ben Haim. West Ham are probably weaker once Tevez is gone. City will probably end up being much improved, although they still have Barton and Distin to replace. The bottom clubs this year are probably better than the bottom clubs last year.

Well they signed up Woodgate, Tuncay on a free could be the signing of the season and Aliadiere has quite a lot of potential. They've lost Viduka, but due to his age and the fact that he only performs when he wants to I think that isn't too big of a blow and the two attacking players they have brought in more than make up for the loss.

"But there's a lot of players also going for five, six, seven and eight million, and I look at some of the players that have moved, and I then look at my squad and think they wouldn't improve it.

"So I'm quite comfortable with the situation that we are in."

Sparky is right

Whatever the case is sparky has to say that hasn't he, I mean he can't come out and publically say that he hasn't been able to compete in the transfer market this summer because he hasn't been given any money to spend.

Because he has been so astute in building up his squad on a shoestring, we're probably at the stage where we just need one more major signing only, the cherry on top of the icing on the cake.

If we were serious about moving forwards that probably would involve paying "double figures" for someone and looking to tweak the wage structure. It's just the stage we're at with the squad at this precise moment.

One thing's for sure, Spurs are going to further increase the gap between themselves and the rest of the pack this year. I don't think they will break the top four, but they'll certainly finish above us again this season. West Ham will certainly be a huge worry come the end of the transfer window, while Newcastle are making some good changes. Unless we sign a top quality striker, then I can only see us managing an eighth place finish next season. It's a shame, because I feel that one signing could really push us on.

Drifting off topic here, but that's a real kick in the swingers for Coleman.

He's kept that club in the top flight on a shoestring for years. As soon as he's out of the door, then they start spending serious money. Nasty!

Got to agree with you there at this moment in time, did the club know in advance that there would be little spending done this summer thus reduced season tickets. Previoue managers have said in the past that if you stand still in this game you get overtaken pretty quickly. Hopefully everything will change and some extra quality is brought in by August 31st.,just hanging on to the players Rovers have got isnt ambition enough.
