What? How on Earth do you expect Sparky to be able to do that? How do you even know a player with such quality exists? If they were any good they'd have made it to international level by now, so surely someone would have seen them already. The last striker to come to the Premiership from Africa with the slightest bit of hype was Collins Mbesuma (I believe we were linked with him at the time), and look how he's turned out.

The 'older' (24 years old) Yakubu is worth £10 million of anyones money. He'll always be in the top 5 goal scorers, and there's probably more to come from him. After all, he's only worked with Redknapp, McClaren and Southgate...imagine what someone like Hughes could get out of him.

Your dreaming 'Lechuck' come back to reality please. :rover:

Believing Sparky can go into the continent of Africa and uncover a 20 goal a season striker that no-one else has found yet is realistic, is it?

I never said we'll sign Yakubu anyway, I know there is no chance at all of it happening. All I said was he was worth £10 million in my opinion.

Edit: I thought I'd posted this before, but obviously not. What do the American's on here think of Eddie Johnson? To me he looks quite similar to Yakubu; strong, pacey and direct, and quite a composed finisher. Is there any reason why he hasn't made it to Europe yet, he's always looked good whenever I've seen him. Is he just going the same was as Donovan and Beasley by not living up to early potential?

Eddie is very inconsistent in my viewing of him.He is very streaky and when he is hot he can win games for you but when he is not he is not that good of a player.Very fast but not too composed in front of the goal.He started his national team career on an unprecedented goal scoring pace but this year he seems to be lacking in confidence and the goals are not going in.He was injured with a foot problem last year(if I recall correctly).Of course predicting players futures always provides an opportunity to eat crow/have egg on ones face but if Rovers signed him I would be more concerned he would be more Jemal Johnson than Andy Johnson.

Only if agents or representatives of African players go to Mark Hughes then only he can make the right choice - which hes done pretty well so far.

Fair enough, you sounded as if, why arent Rovers competing for his signature we should be in there .

Just read that Newcastle's net spending this summer so far is £2m!

With release clauses in both the Owen and Martins contracts, they are also far more worried about losing players than we are.

Spurs fans are ecstatic that they are getting rid of Mido and Ghally for an unbelievable £9m to BIG CLUB- the two worst footballers to have appeared for Spuds since Jason Dozell according to one of them.

I wouldn't be too excited about an Eddie Johnson bid.. Granted, I haven't seen a whole lot of him except for his US games, but he's been poor in them. He does seem to be doing well for Kansas City this season though (top scorer so far in MLS).

I was thinking about those two. Man U keep banging on about how they need another striker and Tevez saga is rolling on a bit too long. Owen (a fit Owen that is) or Martins along side Rooney would be very interesting - both better than Rat Boy as far as I am concerned

Ljungberg is getting too old now and IS bast his best, like Henry was. Another good bit of business for Arsenal me thinks!

Also their were rumours that he often caused friction in the dressing room - so maybe a good move for Arsenal.

Cant believe they havent signed up Baptista yet, he seemed quality last year!

I don't care what anybody says really. West Ham now look like they have the shaping of a very good team indeed, there is no denying it. Ljungberg is a quality player- we would be ecstatic if we were singing him.

Provided Curbishley can hold them together West Ham are going to be serious competitors for the 7th/6th/5th spot- even 4th if they make the best use of their resources before the window closes. As will Man City, Spurs, Everton, Portsmouth and (if they can hold on to Martins and Owen and bring a couple of signings in) Newcastle.

I have massive respect for Hughes but realistically I think even if we are optimistic 9th/10th is where we are looking to finish if we have a good season. All those clubs above are bringing in quality apart from Everton who are about on par with us at the moment anyway.

I wouldnt be! He is past it! Top managers dont sell players who still have the mileage in them.

4th, 5th or even 6th for West Ham? Oh dear I dont think so! There squad hasnt really improved that greatly on last year!

Dont forget there is United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal & Liverpool who all have much better squads and better starting 11 than WHAM.

what??? wham top 7 ??? you must be joking !! they nearly got relegated because of conceding too many goals, they have a very bad defence and haven`t done anything about it.they will not finish in the top half imo.for me curbishley isn`t that good a manager, and also there will be too many ego`s in that dressing room for them to play together as a team.rovers will definitely finish above wham this season no matter how much dosh egghead throws at them!

Any Arsenal fan, or anybody that watched Baptista for even a second last season, will tell you how shocking he was. I think he had one half decent game where he scored a couple, but that was in the cup to inferior opposition.

Ljundberg is not past it at all, he is still a very good player. Even at £4 million, I don't think that is a bad buy at all. Bellamy, Ljundberg, Faubert (although injured) and Parker are top quality players and Sky Sports suggests they are in for Giles Barnes as well. There will certainly be more players coming in and with Ashton returning and Neill coming into excellent form (ask ANY West Ham fan - they love him) they are going to be a big team next season. Curbishly has done very well this summer. They have depth and quality.

Out of interest, where do you think they'll finish next season?
