  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

He supposedly wanted 10k p.w. to join Derby so it's a fair indicator.

I heard 7.5k p.w. Don't you mean Ipswich though?

The Kevin Davies signing was just Caracas!

Sorry

I know! I couldn't Bolivia it! Though at the time I thought it would be Braziliant. Turned out him and Grabbi were just a Paraguays. Tooting, can you get my coat while you're there, before someone tells me that in fact, Uruguay.

Well I think Santa Cruz is an Amazon signing

Oh, I almost Bogota about him for a moment. *wince*

Anyway I really, really am struggling to feel enthusiastic about this one. I can only feel worried. His goals record makes Francis Jeffers look like McCarthy. He will need to bring a HELL of a lot to the team in overall play to make up for a poor goals tally if he can't exceed his personal best. And despite lots of people seeming excited about this, I've read very little to suggest he actually is all that good in other respects. Anybody watch him regularly and want to comment? I WANT to feel good about this, but 4.5 million and 50k a week when for another 3 mill and 25k a week we could've had Bellamy...

thats only about another 7-8  million over the course of the of a 4 yr contract, where bellamy would be 32 & someone like santa cruz would be 29

150k in wages?? I thought Franny were on a pay-as-you-play kind of deal?

I did too and just cos he wanted 10K to play for Ipswich doesn't mean he's on that here. And how is it 150K even if it was 10K it's not been 15weeks has it since he fobbed them off.

I remember him expolding on the scene about 5 years ago, was brilliant in the 2002 World Cup but not heard much of him since. Here's hoping Hughesy pulls off another master stroke.

Personally, it does seem a bit steep but we do need a striker with aerial strength and from what i can remember, he's superb in the air.

Fit wife as well!

Happily. Since it's going to cost what, 14-16 million for Santa anyway. Would rather slap another 7-8 million in there and get a guaranteed Prem performer in Bellamy's class.

Transfer window opened on 1st July didnt it? So even if he was on 10k - thats still only about 40k we'd have saved by selling him anytime after the midseason window closed.

I thought the transfer window opened as soon as the season finished - i.e. mid May?

Fair enough, "only" a hundred grand over ten weeks and increasing at the rate of 10k p.w.

No, but the silly season starts straight away because there's no downside (i.e players playing knowing they'll leave at the end of the season and such) to agreeing the deals beforehand. So the deals are agreed, but the registration (And thus contract) can't change hands until July 1st.

Why is everyone assuming Bellamy wanted to come back here anyway? Wasn't like he was browing on that his preferred move was to Rovers. He seems quite happy with his decision.

Paul Merson just on Sky Sports:-

"I dont think that Mido is a good player...............................so I hope Birmingham get him"

Brilliant

To put the Cruz transfer into context he cost

2 million less than Nugent

1 million less than Harewod

9 million less than Babel

2 million less than Chopra

13million less than Bent

The same as earnshaw

& finally only 1 million more than Kuqi when he went to C palace.

Al in all we have got a good deal for a player that was once regarded as one of the hottest properties in Europe. His problem has been injury, being played out of position and staying at bayern for to long

good signing, i had a feeling he would end up not signing, but im glad i was wrong

you cant argue with the price in this market for a player of his potential, at 25 its excellent business

Hughes said after the match that none of the 4 strikers who were on show today will be leaving the club.

If that is true (that they are staying, not that he said it!) then I think it's pretty awesome what Hughesy has achieved.

In less than three years with the club, he's changed our striker selection from:

Dickov, Stead, Jansen mk2, Bothroyd & Djorkaeff

to

McCarthy, Roberts, Santa Cruz, Rigters & Derbyshire

Not much comparison really.

He said he pretty adamantly and I get the impression the players know themselves that they will be staying (whatever bids may or may not come in for them).

Looks like a great bargain and another top Hughes signing! :brfc:
