  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

It's because that Nicko fella has joined the board, all "Give me my own thread" and "I'm so well connected".. What's he brought to this messageboard anyway?

Jealous are you, because your not getting the usual attention you crave.

Young and promising (to some) USa striker. Fairly big and fast kid, but very much a kid at 23.

Had a huge breakout int he USa senior squad during teh run-in the world cup in 06, something like 5 goals in 3 games. Completely disappeared all last MLS season though, something like 2 goals. Been back on fire int he MLS this season, currently the leagues top scorer with 12 in 12 (and 3 assists to boot)

Some day he'll come across the pond. Very mcuh doubt its to Rovers, and to a lesser extent doubt it happens this summer. I'd expect his move to happen in then mid-season window. Honeslty, I also don't think he's prem ready (too young and not yet physical enough with his frame) as much as I'd love to tout my fellow Americans :)

Real - £60 million??

Doubt it! They dont spend that big on 1 player! They tend to sign players for much cheaper than expected.

No player is worth that amount of money, even Beckham.

However, I on't know if you're using sarcasim with the transfer fees, but in the past:-

• Zinedine Zidane (€66 million)

• Luís Figo (€65 million)

• Ronaldo (€39 million)

• Sergio Ramos (€30 Million)

• Pepe (€30 Million)

These are the ones I can recollect fairly easy and in fairness Owen and Van Nistlerooy weren't as expensive.

Seems silly that anyone would link us with another striker when we're already likely going to have to offload one. I would put the chances of this happening at about -99%, which in my mind is a good thing. Here's what I had to say about EJ a week ago on this thread:

Johnson is complete crap.

I don't see him much these days, but watched nearly every game he played while at FC Dallas and have seen every appearance he's made for the national team. He's completely over his head against decent opposition, though you can count on the occasional poacher's effort against inferior CONCACAF talent.

People have been fixated on Johnson for a while because of his pace and body, but he's never amounted to much. Obviously you can't teach speed and he's got plenty of that, but he's injury-prone and is known in Dallas to be something of a spoiled little bitch. He's a streak scorer and will pile on the goals against crap defending, then go silent for the next ten matches. His best attribute is pace, but he wastes it by holding up play too often, clearly reluctant to run at defenders and try to create his own shot.

This ought to tell you enough: FC Dallas traded Johnson to Kansas City two winters ago for a roster allocation, which basically amounts to salary cap space. Why would a mediocre MLS team show such willingness to trade away one of the hottest young American talents, particularly a goal-scorer? Only one explanation, as far as I'm concerned: he's crap. Well, maybe two: he's crap and he has a bad attitude.

I'm not going to say that Sparky (or someone else, like SAF) couldn't turn Johnson into a player, because I'm sure it's possible. I'm just saying that I would be near livid if Rovers paid more than about 500K for him. He'd be a project, and there's no way he cracks the top five in Rovers' pecking order up front. If I'm being honest, I'd rather see Jeffers given an extended run than EJ. I could probably go through every Premiership squad and pick two strikers that I'd rather have than Johnson. That may be true of the Championship as well if I can pick two attacking players of any position.

In short, NO to Eddie Johnson at Rovers!

hmm. actually I haven't been 100% convinced in either Ooijer or Emerton on the right, so this might not be a bad signing.

Speak ye not ill of my Bert or the wrath of Roversmum will descend upon you...........

Can't argue Texan, I'm not sure why some are so in love with him. To back up your statements, EJ has 12 goals this season, but he had back to back hattricks at the end of may/beginning of juse, and a 2 goal game two weeks ago... so, 3 games w/ 8 goals, 4 goals in his other 9 games....

Also he's got an offside problem that easily dwarfs Benni's.
