  1. 1. Have your say on the summer transfer window.

    • Should have had more cash to spend. Almost everyone else did.

Can't argue Texan, I'm not sure why some are so in love with him. To back up your statements, EJ has 12 goals this season, but he had back to back hattricks at the end of may/beginning of juse, and a 2 goal game two weeks ago... so, 3 games w/ 8 goals, 4 goals in his other 9 games....

Also he's got an offside problem that easily dwarfs Benni's.

It's probably because Eddie Johnson is absolutely amazing on FM (Football Manager).

Well first of all, I'm sure Bolton will be happy to sign Aaron Lennon for 500k.

Right - as would everybody. But they're not are they so what's your point? I said he was like Aarron Lennon in so much that he doesn't seem (from my limited viewing of him) to have an end product.

You've seen him attempt a cross how many times? Once probably, in that youtube clip above

And no Mr or Mrs Clever Cloggs I have seen him play for Norway a few times as well. I aggree it is limited viewing of him but so what?

Apparently Australian and Palermo midfielder Marco Bresciano is poised to sign for City aswell, which would give them some scoring depth in midfield.

Fulham are also trying to sign young Australian defender Adrian Leijer according to reports in Aus. Hes going to be a great player, not sure whether he's up to premiership standard but will be one of / if not Australia's best defender come 2010.

Good to see Sven buying the best of Bristish!! <_<. Seriously though I hope that all of these new foreigners that they're signing take a while to get to grips with the prem because on paper they're going to have a very decent team. Then again they're only a couple of injuries away from having Dickov and Corradi upfront!

More silliness happenning. West Ham are poised to sign Keiron Dyer as a fee has been agreed for him. Curbishley is going to have a tough time of it if you ask me. The Hammers have managed to reunite Bellamy, Bowyer, and Dyer who caused complete havoc together at Newcastle. Add the rest of stars they've paid big money for and you have the possibility of sulking galore. City are going after anyone who isn't English, it puts Sven in a good light doesn't it? City will be unbelievably boring to watch but Eriksson will not let them lose many.

I'd like to see the total amount spent on transfers list on September 1st, it will be massive.

Berner isn't very good. It should be easy to get someone in who can replace it. I'm just glad it happened before the transfer window closed.

This seems like a harsh (and quick) judgment for a guy who has played twice in a Rovers shirt.

Seems silly that anyone would link us with another striker when we're already likely going to have to offload one. I would put the chances of this happening at about -99%, which in my mind is a good thing. Here's what I had to say about EJ a week ago on this thread:

Johnson is complete crap.

I don't see him much these days, but watched nearly every game he played while at FC Dallas and have seen every appearance he's made for the national team. He's completely over his head against decent opposition, though you can count on the occasional poacher's effort against inferior CONCACAF talent.

People have been fixated on Johnson for a while because of his pace and body, but he's never amounted to much. Obviously you can't teach speed and he's got plenty of that, but he's injury-prone and is known in Dallas to be something of a spoiled little bitch. He's a streak scorer and will pile on the goals against crap defending, then go silent for the next ten matches. His best attribute is pace, but he wastes it by holding up play too often, clearly reluctant to run at defenders and try to create his own shot.

This ought to tell you enough: FC Dallas traded Johnson to Kansas City two winters ago for a roster allocation, which basically amounts to salary cap space. Why would a mediocre MLS team show such willingness to trade away one of the hottest young American talents, particularly a goal-scorer? Only one explanation, as far as I'm concerned: he's crap. Well, maybe two: he's crap and he has a bad attitude.

I'm not going to say that Sparky (or someone else, like SAF) couldn't turn Johnson into a player, because I'm sure it's possible. I'm just saying that I would be near livid if Rovers paid more than about 500K for him. He'd be a project, and there's no way he cracks the top five in Rovers' pecking order up front. If I'm being honest, I'd rather see Jeffers given an extended run than EJ. I could probably go through every Premiership squad and pick two strikers that I'd rather have than Johnson. That may be true of the Championship as well if I can pick two attacking players of any position.

In short, NO to Eddie Johnson at Rovers!

I really disagree with much of what is said in this post. Having watched him play in the run up to the WC '06 and in the CONCACAF Gold Cup games he got in this season, I think he's much better than what you claim! I admit 2 things right off the bat, I didn't follow him at Dallas, and I don't know anything about his personality/professionalism.

That having been said, and also agreeing that the competition in the Premiership vis-a-vis defenders is much better than the Gold Cup, he has a load of potential for a 23 year old.

I don't really understand why "streak scoring" is something to frown so hard upon. I understand that it would be nice to bang one in every 90 minutes without fail, but that's not going to happen! Every team needs a scorer who's going to knock 3 in against the weaker opposition because those are games that you absolutely have to win! Not winning against teams at the bottom of the table will kill you. Also, I thought the US side played very well precisely WHEN he held up play. I think that too many of our strikers are reluctant to involve themselves in the play beyond just scoring a poacher's effort. It's also hard for me to reconcile the two statements that he won't do much other than score a poacher's effort and that he holds up play too often for a player of his pace.

In any case, both of those are also a question of tactics. Someone of his physical ability, if his skill on the ball were to develop a little, and if a decent manager could convince him of the right tactics, would be an amazing player. Why not blame the manager if the pacey striker is holding up play too often??

Lasty, is he ready for Rovers? No. However, I don't think he's complete crap as a player. As far as his professional attitude however, I'll defer to your more informed opinion.

It might not be enough just allowing for a mediocre season at City as before they do start playing they may just find themselves so far adrift at the bottom.

I just cannot make any sense of all the foreign signings they have made, just how difficukt is it going to be getting them to play in the Premiership not to mention having them all to learn a language as well that each and every one of them can understand.
