vyeo Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Big-spending Fulham are chasing Blackburn's £4m-rated striker Jason Roberts. (Sunday Mirror) We all know about this already, but I am really quite tempted by that amount of money. I would be tempted too, but with harewood going for 5m, surely our jason should go for that same amount? I actually suspect contrary to what has been said, hughes will let him leave should the offer be too good to turn down. We simply have far too many strikers. Remember what happened with kuqi last season?
rover6 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 It is certainly a gamble, but so far I think every one of their signings has been at a decent price and they have all been very good players. I can see them becoming a very good side. Their manager is Sven-Goran Eriksson. The man who (despite his incredible record as international manager...) has been known to play Emile Heskey, Owen Hargreaves and Paul Scholes as left wingers in major tournaments. They may have a good start, boosted by the novelty and hype surrounding Shinawatra's largesse, but it is destined for failure.
shane123 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 we are one of 10 Premier League clubs chasing the signature of 6ft 4in, 18-year-old Argentine wonderkid Franco Di Santo - described as the new Maradona. (Sunday Mirror)

joey_big_nose Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I would think Roberts would be replaced if sold. I suppose that depends on how much Hughes rates Gallagher and Rigters. If he thinks they can do jobs as 4th or 5th striker then we don't really need another striker. Especially considering Rigters has been described as a similar type of striker to Roberts. 5m could help buy us a very handy central midfielder and also, possibly, a right back. But if Roberts wants to stay I would keep him.
Sandiway Blue Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I am not sure we would sell roberts,as he is a better player than we have seen up to now.We started to get glimpses of how he could play towards the back end of last season.which i am sure would have impressed Hughes greatly.Personally i hope he stays as we need somebody with pace up front.I think the signing of Santa Cruz will keep both Benni and Roberts on their toes and bring out the best of them. Should have seen the look on my kids faces when i said Santa was signing for Rovers !
American Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I just wonder who could replace Jason (of a similar quality/experience) for the price mentioned? I'd only sell if he truly wanted to leave. I don't see the youngsters replacing him this season.
Lathund Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Their manager is Sven-Goran Eriksson. I think it'll be the other way around. Somewhat slow start, and then they'll turn into serious contenders for the spots behind 4th. His record, but not his style, as England manager wasn't anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Not great, but not bad at all. As as a club manager his record is good. Only manager to win a cup + league double in three different countries (As well as one league, cup and UEFA Cup treble), he's won titles at every club he's been at except for two seasons at Fiorentina. Not saying he's the worlds greatest manager or anything like that, but I'd take him over at least half the other premiership managers, all of whom have achieved far less yet receive little or no criticism.
dave birch Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Lathund, you may well be proven right, but the PL is a little more obust than other leagues. Let's see after a few games and then take stock. I must admit at being confident about the Rovers this year, but then again.....

Daremz Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Backup blue is right. All the strikers make sure they all reach their top-level. And because of all the competitions we're in, they'll all get their moments to prove themselves. At first, I thought all the strikers were a bit worrying (morale), but I'm seeing the positive things now. If we only could start with a win, we could have a very nice season on our hands. Another central midfielder though...Kaka' is still tempted by Rovers, just feel it!

1864roverite Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Franny Jeffers has been linked with a shock move to Sheff Wed and talked to them yesterday, he is also still being coveted by both Ipswich and Coventry. Foolham have allegedly had a third offer turned down by Rovers with MH stating that he and no other Rovers player will be leaving the club.
Eddie Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 The new Maradona eh? 6ft 4in? Something is wrong somewhere there. No it's right, it's just that he's 6ft 4in wide.
Ronin Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Foolham have allegedly had a third offer turned down by Rovers with MH stating that he and no other Rovers player will be leaving the club. If we had any Northern Irish players, then I would be worried
1864roverite Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Lassana Diawara the chelsea midfielder is to be amde available for loan to Premiership clubs but will not be allowed to go to any of Chelseas rivals. For me he could be a fantastic loan signing for central midfield.
T4E Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 That'll be Lassana Diarra, then? Is that mate of yours at Chelsea TV a tad dyslexic?
yellowsubmarine Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Maybe Hughes will pull off some loan deal just before the window closes?
Mozzer Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 i think maybe a move for flamini would be better..
joey_big_nose Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 i think maybe a move for flamini would be better.. Seconded! But i think Wenger has now decided to hold on to him?
1864roverite Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 That'll be Lassana Diarra, then? Is that mate of yours at Chelsea TV a tad dyslexic? No in fact it is my spelling mistake and the information came from five live with a quote from Steve Clark.
