gbax Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Its 00.08 (early Tuesday morning). Just got back from the Annual Rovers Player Awards. I was lucky enough to be sat at the top table of the main sponsors of the event. John Williams gave a short speech after dinner and announced that he and Tugay will be sitting down this morning and signing a one year extension to his contract (providing Tugay was not too hung over). This got a huge cheer!

modes98 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 So it should of. Tugay, you are my turkish delight! Good news for the club, i just hope he can stand the pace for another season or 2.
Bobby G Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Love the guy. A legend. One of the greatest players ever to pull on the shirt and one of the most entertaining players in PL history (just sheerly for that substitution walk off the pitch!) TUGAY TUGAY TUGAY...
Roost Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Thank God for that! After his 'lions roar' in the centre circle on sunday as he was walking off, I honestly thought that we had seen his last game. Talk about passion - he has it in bucket loads - and he has a genuine love for football, Blackburn Rovers, and their supporters. Nice one Tugay - You are a true legend. One Love - BRFC
Bobby G Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My brother had a brief word with him after the match as well and asked him "one more year"? and he responded "I hope so". He truly is a Blackburn player. I love it on TV when after he has been substituted you always see him standing a few feet behind Hughes with his arms folded and his tracksuit on and he is following the action, rather than sitting and watching from the bench.
legolaschic_01 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I was in the team shop on Sunday and who do I see buying LOADS of Rovers shirts but Tugay!! He is not only a phenomenal player for us but a true fan as well.
legolaschic_01 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 He had who i presume was to be his son with him and he was getting the number 5 printed on the back......lol
legolaschic_01 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Is he actually signing today ? or is it just gossip?
gbax Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 Is he actually signing today ? or is it just gossip? Unless John Williams was drunk when he said it last night - YES!
legolaschic_01 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Good Good, that will send my boyfriend into throes of ecstasy!!!!! lol plus im pretty chuffed about it too
Atomicrover Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Good Good, that will send my boyfriend into throes of ecstasy!!!!! lol plus im pretty chuffed about it too Crikey!!! Steady on................
Esulx Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Official Rovers Txt Service "Midfielder Tugay has this morning signed a new one-year deal with Blackburn Rovers." Done Deal - Happy Days
Bobby G Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Great news. One more year with the big man...He has given us amazing service during the past two seasons, possibly his best ever 2 seasons with us.
gazsimm Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 great news, the guy is a legend and i hope when he does retire, we offer him a place as a coach at ewood
RevidgeBlue Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 great news, the guy is a legend and i hope when he does retire, we offer him a place as a coach at ewood The fact he doesn't speak much English might be a slight problem there. Seriously though it's good news and he seems far fitter now than he did when Souness was here which is a testament both to him and Hughes training methods.

Seriously though it's good news and he seems far fitter now than he did when Souness was here which is a testament both to him and Hughes training methods. he speaks good enough english for me, i think he will be a very good addition to the backroom staff when he retires, with all the experience he has
G Somerset Rover Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Good news-the guy's a legend. He's obviously refused bags of money elsewhere to accept this deal, which clearly shows how much we mean to him. Although he'll probably only be used from time to time what a player he is to come in and dictate the necessary tempo.
roversmum Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm dreading the day that Tugs leaves. Such a legend.
gbax Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 I was sweating like John Lesley until the offical text came out - I was worried I'd dreamed it when I started this thread, being my first scoop and all.
Ronin Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 . . . i think he will be a very good addition to the backroom staff when he retires, with all the experience he has I'd second that. I hope after his final contract ends that we keep his services as a coach at some level within the club. Top player and, along with Big Brad and the other players to re-sign, a show of loyalty towards the club.
B.R.F.C Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Love the Man! Its Number 5 Tooooooooogs Great that he is back for another year and once again wil adorn the back of my shirt next season. Delighted
b12_simon Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 This is fantastic news! Tugay got the most cheering and singing from us on Sunday, yet never once did it feel (to me) like goodbye. That's it then next season's shirt will have a #5 on it!
