bluebruce Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 The cost of Bellamy is ridiculous. There is no point in trying to match it. West Ham are paying £9 million in installments, with a figure around £7 million down and the rest in bits. That would be more than you got for him and a bit daft. However the wages are wild. I heard £75,000-a-week and I think that is right. Over four years that is a further £16 million in salary. If you think what this would do to the payroll at Rovers it is not worth the cash. If Bellamy came on that wage there would be a queue round the block to get pay rises, so the 'cost' would be even more than the £25 million on the player himself. It's common sense to take a back seat on this one. I'd be fine with us paying that fee, but those wages are a concern. If he really would prefer to play for us by a long shot though, maybe we wouldn't have to pay him so much. He accepted 30k at Liverpool when we were offering 60, because he wanted to play for them.

EwoodGlory Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Thanks for the reply Nicko, If its true that we offered him £60k a week to stay, I thought we would have offered him the same this time, so he at least had the option to come back if he wanted to. I do agree the financial package West Ham have offered is out of our league. With regards to the transfer fee, we made about £2m when we sold him, so i wouldn't of thought that would be an issue. The club does not have major debts to pay off at the moment, and with the new TV deals coming in, there must be money somewhere for a transfer like this before the season starts. It's not like we need to buy 3 or 4 others with the squad that we have.
nicko Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I have honestly said too much about the mystery man already. I thought I went after stories hard, but I have nothing on you lot... The whole tale will be in the People tomorrow. Or at least as much as I know. Or what is left to add to the astonishing detective work done by some of the posters so far. There is also a takeover update with as much info as I can gather too. But in the meantime Mrs Nicko wants a night out, so I had better go. Interesting to find out thoughts on target and takeover tomorrow...
roversmum Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Signed to keep Jan, Roversmum etc happy. In a 2006 World Cup edition of German magazine Kicker he was voted the sexiest man to be taking part in the tournament. He was also chosen by the German newspaper Die Welt as the sexiest footballer of the 2006 World Cup. Oh, I say............

USABlue Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Suprised you havnt as he's playing in the Copa America at the mo... plays up-front for Paraguay and Bayern Munich. Haven't been watching Copa America
Jordan Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I would love us to sign Santa-Cruz. Cracking player howvever I imagine that his wages will be high.

modes98 Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 But in the meantime Mrs Nicko wants a night out, so I had better go. Ah can't take the heat hey! It must be intense here if your taking the missus out!
Roar of the Rover Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I hope its Saviola, he's only 25 and he can finish well.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I was hoping the take over had gone away as I wish the prospective buyers would In my view this close season is simply helping to prove we need the right calibre of new owners in sooner rather than later. However whether the American interest falls into that bracket I'm not sure.
Antgrad Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Indeed...29 goals in 143 appearances for Bayern...no thanks. I remember signing a young lad that had scored 23 goals in 118 games a few years ago. Best goalscorer any of us will ever see.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I reckon Hughes is after a striker and someone to play the "Tugay" role. links with Giles Barnes and Nene, both playmakers, both still young enough to learn off Tugay... so why not Saviola? he could be the target Nicko is on about, as he is known as a striker, but can play midfield too.
Rover 'til I die Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Santa Cruz said he wanted to go to Roma last week, but a British club has come in for him. Could be us..... http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=554
USABlue Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Looking at Cruz's goals to games ratio, not sure I'd want him here unless he brings lots of other qualities.
Antgrad Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Looking at Cruz's goals to games ratio, not sure I'd want him here unless he brings lots of other qualities. So you'd obviously have refused to break the British transfer record in 1992 for a guy from Southampton that had a similar ratio?
Jordan Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 His goals to games ratio does not seem too great however I really think he would do well in the Premiership. WIKI
modes98 Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Maybe he has been in and out of the team? His games played isn't exactly consistent. He has always impressed me when i've seen him, that twice in every 2 or 3 seasons against an english team in the CL.
The1mattjansen Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Surely someone has read the paper by now...who is it!?
G Somerset Rover Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 With regards to Cassano No No way. Cracking player but with his links to the Mafia etc and his regular tantrums this guy makes Anelka and Barton look Saints.
Alan75 Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Surely someone has read the paper by now...who is it!? News Update
The1mattjansen Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Fair play to everyone who managed to work that out from the information Nicko provided. Not too sure about him to be honest, i was hoping for someone with pace to compliment McCarthy, but having said that if the man knows were the goal is, get him signed up.
Cocker Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I would love to comment on him but have never seen him play - could anyone shed any light on him - anything to get excited about? (Did a search to see some of his goals on Youtube and while there are a couple there are loads of picture compilations of him Oh, well, if he does sign I still wont know anything more about him but what I do know is that we will have a few more fans from the Gay community )
