Paul Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I've never seen Santa Cruz play but I'd be extremely worried if he was being brought in as the "big" summer signing. ..........- His career total is thirty three goals in eight and a bit seasons. Good grief he's considered a striker? Got to agree with Revidge with this scoring record this is not a player to get excited abouy

Rainmaker Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I myself is not as concerned with is goal to game ratio at other clubs. He may, for all we know, be more of a supporting striker, creating space and chances for other players. And as others have pointed out. A certain former Rovers striker didn't actually have a good goal/game ratio until King Kenny broke the british transfer record to get him to Ewood.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 And as others have pointed out. A certain former Rovers striker didn't actually have a good goal/game ratio until King Kenny broke the british transfer record to get him to Ewood. Difference being, Shearer was 21, just turned 22, when he came to Ewood. This fellow is 26 in August and should be at the peak of his powers.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Rev, do you think Hughes has lost the plot? Certainly not. (Unless we pay 4.5m for this fellow) Seriously though, Imo we have an absolutely outstanding manager who isn't receiving any financial backing, and hasn't done ever since he took over. If however we finally make an expensive signing this summer without selling someone first to pay for it, I may have to revise my opinion.
AggyBlue Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 We don't know for sure if Hughes is after this Santa Claus, if he is, then I'll gladly back Hughes judgement.
LeChuck Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 If however we finally make an expensive signing this summer without selling someone first to pay for it, I may have to revise my opinion. Why? The extra TV money can easily cover it. Almost every team in the Premiership is spending money because of it, even Fulham are splashing out £4 million on a midfielder.
Saf Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 well looks like niko's right again http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...uay_striker.php
stuwilky Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 well looks like niko's right again http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...uay_striker.php Or Gavin Gibbon is a member of this messageboard?
Saf Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 well niko said he would coust around 4.5m but the LET have come up with 8 million
nicko Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Santa Cruz's price is in the £4.5 million range. Even Bayern Munich admit that - and they are selling him. I felt sorry for him last night because Paraguay had the ultimate nightamre of a game. The up side is that he will now sort out his future fast because he is clear of international duty. At £4.5 million and with big wages it would be a fairly big risk. But when you see the prices of strikers right now - Darren Bent, Diomansy Kamara and even Craig Bellamy - it could be a decent price if he pays off. If I hear any news of Manchester City's interest I will pass it on. It's fair to say they are further down the Roque road than anyone right now.
1864roverite Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 wham have signed kamara from wba if reports are to be believed. Giving them Kamara, harewood, zamora, cole and bellamy! as a front fivesome. frightening array of firepower aint it?
fozzer Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 wham have signed kamara from wba if reports are to be believed. Giving them Kamara, harewood, zamora, cole and bellamy! as a front fivesome. frightening array of firepower aint it? Not to forget Ashton now that is one decent player!!! They sign any more strikers we should make a move!! It may take till january for a pecking order at west ham to be established but if there is one and he is not the main striker we should moniter the situation and make a cheeky bid!!
budha Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I highly doubt they'll be letting Ashton go. More likely Harewood and/or Zamora and/or Cole, which are not anyone we should be looking into IMO.
Roar of the Rover Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 They should keep Zamora because he comes out with a few goals when you don't expect him too, Harewood should be leaving. There strikeforce will be Ashton and Bellamy.
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 wham have signed kamara from wba if reports are to be believed. Giving them Kamara, harewood, zamora, cole and bellamy! as a front fivesome. frightening array of firepower aint it? Useful but far from frightening. Plus one or two 'ego's just waiting to be bruised imo.
trs Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Nicko, noticed you did the piece on Koumas and co possibly going to Wigan, just wondered if we have shown any interest in him.
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Nicko, Nicko what will the winning lottery numbers be for next Sat?
trs Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Nicko, Nicko what will the winning lottery numbers be for next Sat? That's a stupid question.
nicko Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Wigan and Koumas is close, but it's over-the-top money again. I don't think there has been much Rovers interest there and I wouldn't imagine any late moves. There are some huge fees being paid for ordinary players right now. Fulham and West Ham are outbidding each other for Kamara as we speak. Crazy.
rover_groo Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Hmmmmmm....... we don't seem to have too much luck with our Swedish signings in the past. Looks as though Eriksson might try his luck instead. 3 days after his name surfaced, I think it's only a matter of time he was linked to a few players from his own country. However the reported £17 million price tag is woeful. Low and behold, Henrik will be next!! Eriksson an Elmander fan.
AggyBlue Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 That's a stupid question. It's one I wish I knew the answer to.
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 That's a stupid question. Indeed it is. So you can just add it to the countless others already on this thread.
waggy Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Not to forget Ashton now that is one decent player!!! They sign any more strikers we should make a move!! It may take till january for a pecking order at west ham to be established but if there is one and he is not the main striker we should moniter the situation and make a cheeky bid!! i remenber championing ASHTON on here when he would have cost us £3 million but everyone reckoned he was to big a gamble, now it would take more than we have.
modes98 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 well niko said he would coust around 4.5m but the LET have come up with 8 million I think that's a simple error, €8m is what was banded about and that translated into £4.5m in a few sky articles. Ditto waggy, Ashton was always one of my favourite strikers from the lower leagues. However another one slipped away.
