Thinking about it he is very similiar to J.Cole, Cole has more pace but there is a directness about Bentley's game at the moment that is creating chances left, right and centre. I think overall I would still take Cole over Bentley, when there both off par I would have rather have Cole with the ball at his feet than Bents.

anything in this Nicko?

Chelsea boss Avram Grant has ignored the wishes of owner Roman Abramovich by targeting David Bentley in the January transfer window.

Abramovich still wants to bring troubled Barca star Ronaldinho to Stamford Bridge, but Grant wants to snap up Bentley before his stock rises as a regular England international under Fabio Capello. (Daily Star)

That horse has bolted.

Nobody picking up that Star story but then are Star stories picked up by anyone on anything?

LT running with the Sav and Roberts going story. Don't know whether there is an unfortunate choice of words but Hughes talks about issues with other players as being one of the reasons Roberts was not on the bench at Derby. Perhaps explains having two left backs sat there.

Nicko's contribution here is in the Mirror whilst there is a suggestion Paul Jewell will offer an Earnshaw/Roberts swap. I am no fan of Earnshaw but having that sort of pace as an option might be worth considering.

Elsewhere, the Anelka to Chelsea for £10m rumbles on whilst Berbatov's agent nixes Levi's "Spurs are not a selling club" by putting his client in the shop window. Emphatic was almost an understatement for the way Berb took those four goals against Reading.

Roberts set to leave

Daily Mail seems to be taking over, Nicko, time to start writing again ;)

That would be the Jason Roberts story you had here and in the Mirror about three or four weeks ago?

It seems there is no-one willing to buy him at the price, so this may rumble on for a while. Sheffield United are keen, mind you.

I think Sav will be sorted quicker. Sunderland will have to pay more - and there could be others.

The next crunch is the FA Cup tie. I don't think either will play as it affects their fee.

Following that logic Tyrone I take it you wouldn't want Berbatov and Anelka either?

So hands up all those who want to see us sign someone WORSE than Derbyshire?

But I dont think that Earnshaw is any better than Derbyshire. No problem with signing people better than him but not somone with the same/less ability

Probably academic- I doubt Derby County would be JR's favoured destination.

jim, deliberate use of nix because if Berbatov is yanked out of Spurs, it will be an American financial instrument that will have been used by the Glazers to fund it.

On a more general point, if Spurs who have spent something like £100m in the past three years on transfer fees are having to come out bleating that they are not a selling club, what hope for the rest of us if the Big 4 come calling?

I don't think Paul Jewell wants him. They worked together at Wigan and were not always on good terms. He is about to sell Steve Howard to Leicester but he is bringing in a foreign striker to replace him.

As I say, Roberts wants out - but there are no concrete Premier bidders.

Derby might have a fancy for Sav, but once more there is only a serious call from Sunderland on the agenda right now.

...& what price could be in on the head of Santa Cruz (arguably a similar type of player) should the itinerant Bulgarian decide to depart from Spurs, thus triggering a potential bidding war; would we be able to 'buck the market' should one of the 'Big 4/5' come knocking for him?

He's going to Boro I can feel it in me bones and my email account.

What about Liverpool, Valencia and Athletico Madrid? heard all those 3 rumoured in the papers too...

And is ther any truth in Rovers looking at that Valeri Domwgfiuegfegfghiughfuiegfiuski (sp?) from Levski Sofia?

Nobody in for Bentley at this stage.

The Bulgarian has been watched, but that's about all.

From what I hear there are not too many 'live' targets just now, which would explain the majority of current news being about players leaving.

But I do notice that - three weeks on - none of the big boys have bid for Anelka...so there is still time, even with Roque scoring for fun.

Great to have you back Nicko.

That Valeri guy from Levski Sofia has an awesome scoring record and can run fast - 100m in 9.98 - according to wikipedia and off the top of my head.

Anyone think downing could be a decent buy for us if available? Surely Boro are not good enough for him now, even if they are his hometown team.
