Fife Rover Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 "we dont take kindly to city folk on these boards" (hick southern american accent) apparently wasnt one of the suggestions how to move the forums forward to be less anal? I think you mean banal; at least I hope you do!

bluebruce Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I've never seen Santa Cruz play but I'd be extremely worried if he was being brought in as the "big" summer signing. His career stats indicate he was in sparkling form in Paraguay in 1999 - 2000 (at age 17 ?) with four goals in four games, and in the following season he produced his best return, which was still only an unspectacular seven goals from 32 appearances. Since then: - He's never scored more than five in a season. (Even in Paraguay) - He's only scored five goals since the end of the 2004 season three years ago. - One Cup goal last season only. - His career total is thirty three goals in eight and a bit seasons. - His Bayern tally is eleven goals in four seasons. All this tends to indicate a player: a) Whose best years are behind him and/or b ) Who is extremely injury prone and/or c) Who can't adapt to the more physical style of the European Leagues Brings to mind a cross between Grabbi and Jeffers this signing potentially. Might be worth a gamble if Rigters/Santa Cruz are direct replacements for Nonda and Jeffers but I wouldn't like to have to put much more store on it than that. I would hope we have other irons in the fire personally. As would I. On top of which, I read somewhere that they got him for free. I could be mistaken, as I thought it was on Wiki but I can't find it there. If true though, why the hell is he 'cheap' at 4.5 million when they got him for free and he's been crap (judging by the lack of goals) and injured since? I'll be worried if we sign this guy at a big fee and big wage, but I'll still wait to see for myself of course.
Silencio Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I'm pretty sure Santa Cruz cost BM £8.5 million when he was 16/17...
micky_b Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Bellamy Completes Hammer Move Nicko, Did we even put a bid in for Bellamy?
nicko Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Just a quick update or three... Jeffers has turned down a three-year contract on about £6,000-a-week. That is a drop on his Blackburn wages, so he wants more or part of the fee. Understandable. Will rumble on. Bellamy has gone on a FIVE-year contract at £75,000-a-week. No point in bidding for someone on figures like that. I don't think a bidf was made, but an interest was obviously lodged with player and club. Santa Cruz is developping fast. In my opinion Rovers must act now and fast or they will lose out. Bayern want to sell, agent Jerome Anderson is pushing Manchester City to buy. But the Thai owner has NOT got the money to pay right now. So if you want him, go and get him. When you see the price of ordinary players moving just now he looks worth a gamble. But nobody has even talked wages yet - and they could be scary.
rovers_rob Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Have Fulham give up on Roberts now that they have signed Kamara ? I hope so.

I can't believe that Jeffers wasn't happy with £6,000/week for 3 years, which is equal to basically £1million during that course (then his goal bonus). With his extensive, he was very fortunate to be given a three year deal. All in all he might continue to get interest and will be off to the Championship/lower Premiership club. I think we need to get shot off Jeffers, as he must be on in the region of around £10-8k a week so there is no point in allowing him to burn a hole in our pocket. I can see Rovers looking to hold out for £600k, so that we break even with his wages from last season and also the signing-on fee that both Franny and his agent would have received. All in all, he'll be a good buy for any championship club, but perhaps not Bumley, as it would only gear towards their success. Maybe a move to Preston would be ideal esp as Nugent looks destined to move on. As for Bellamy, no point with paying that amount of money. Thanks but no thanks!
den Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Bellamys' contract, if true, is huge - no doubt. If you want the best players though, you have to pay the money. Remember, buy first division players, get first division football.
Claytons Left Boot Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Bellamy has gone on a FIVE-year contract at £75,000-a-week. £19.5m top line over the five year term. Without bonuses, endorsements etc etc. Ho hum.......
roversmum Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 £19.5m top line over the five year term. Without bonuses, endorsements etc etc. Ho hum....... And, no doubt, the trouble...........
AggyBlue Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 It's like a lotto win every year, it just ain't right.

Remember, buy first division players, get first division football. i agree with that, den. that contract would turn anybodys head. it's bellamy's decision at the end of the day, if he wants to play in that dodgy claret kit and for a sub standard coaching staff, so be it. tevez slated the coaching and medical staff, and if true, craig's season is more than likely to be injury hit. call me an eternal optimist, but i'd bet that bellers is on the move again, this time next year, and at a highly reduced price.
den Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Tell that to Leeds. Bry, if you have the money and you want the player, you sign him. Lot's of people are judging whether he's worth that money - it doesn't matter, does it. There's no point keeping the money in the bank, it's got to be spent some time. There's also no point spending money on cheaper players, just because they are cheaper. Leeds failed because they spent money they didn't have.
herbergeehh Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 75k a week * 5yrs = £19.5m + £7.5m transfer + 400k bail budget + bonuses I'll give Bellers two years as a West Ham player at most, he'll just become too expensive to hold on to.
broadsword Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 But we don't have the money to pay wages of 75k a week, Den, so I'm not sure what you're getting at?
ABBEY Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Abbs, - you aint half posting some Tosh this morning. why?
