Newcastle's defensive target is Tal Ben Haim at Chelsea.

There may be a chance that he is available because Chelsea have signed a Serb called Ivanovic from Lokomotiv Moscow tonight.

Two other late bits of news...

Manchester City could be selling Samaras to Birmingham. Hard to believe, but true.

And Laurent Robert is going on trial at Derby.

If Big Sam loses against Stoke in the cup, do you feel he'll be given his marching orders or by signing Tal Ben Haim mean that the chairman is actually backing him throughout the transfer window despite what might happen in the next few weeks?

Fair question.

The Tal Ben Haim inquiry was made before tonight's defeat by Man City, if they lose at Stoke I think he will be out - and there won't be a point in pursuing it.

If Big Sam is smart he will try to push it through before the weekend...either on loan or for a small fee.

on another rovers forum, apparntly savage to sunderland should be done tomorrow..2million deal???

Catching up.

Sunderland are keen, it just depends how much. I think the fee will be about £1.5 million plus survival bonuses...if they don't pay that they are not serious.

Derby have an interest biut are further down the road with Hossam Ghaly from Spurs. Taking Laurent Robert on trial is a bit strange.

Surely we can do better than that. I mean if Keano will pay 9 Mil for a Scottish keeper we have to push for 3 mil ;)

Saw Nial Quinn outside the ground last night and I told him he could have savage for £2 million, to which he just laughed. I said well Id get it done soon if I was you, to which he replied 'Well why else would I be here'.

What other reason could there be...?

;)

Nicko: Do you know if theres rovers interest in released Real Betis midfelder Johann Vogel? He would be an great addition or will we just go for the bulgarian. Is there any truth in rovers bringing in South korean Yoon Bitgaram?

From Wikipedia it sounds like Everton have got Vogel sewn up. Hope not- exactly the sort of player we need and (as he is free) just the right price!

If we got 2 million for Savage and got him in for free that would be perfect. We could still go ourt and buy another qualitu midfielder.

I'd imagine Ooijer knows Vogel from their time at PSV.. Hopefully we can use that to our advantage should there be any interest in getting him on board. He 's not been a success though since he left Holland, so I don't know if he's worth it anymore. Bit like Van Bommel.

If memory serves, on Radio Rovers last night, they mentioned a South Korean lad and the Eastern European lad as trialists. I think they also mentioned a South African right hand sided midfielder.

I expect that these are all the players that have been mentioned on here previously.
