The fact that all the pompey fans I know would be happy to see the back of Taylor tells me that we shouldn't be going after him. He strikes me as their MGP, or their Nolan; Fans of other clubs rate MGP, Nolan and Taylor very highly still, while their own fans don't. Well, Nolan seems to have his supporters, but there's still a big difference between Bolton fans and others.

Slightly OT but interesting comments by Paul Walsh on Soccer Saturday today about West Ham's "wage structure" starting to create problems for them in that players are expecting that now and therefore are reluctant to sign. Heard anything about it Nicko (not that I'd find that hilarious if true of course) ;)

Sorry RovertheHill, I didn't quite get what you were saying there. Don't suppose you could clarify it for me, because it sounds interesting.

I know that the West Ham wage budget is far smaller than what the press suggest and, again, that their biggest earners are on nowhere near the figures printed in the press. My West Ham supporting friend said that Magnusson actually spoke to the official site stating that their wage structure meant that no player was on over £55k.

Well, it's not me, it's Paul Walsh. Jeff the leg' was saying that West Ham haven't the funds to spend big because of the wages demanded and Paul Walsh said that with full-backs on 70 grand a week anyone that goes there - especially strikers - would want at least that and they'd created a rod for their own backs - and therefore players were reluctant to go unless offered silly money. He also said, and I'm not sure whether it was a statement or a theory, that Dean Ashton had the hump because he wanted 70 grand.

Now we all know how accurate those pundits are <_< so I was wondering if there was anything on the footy grapevine about it or whether it was just stuff and nonsense

Of course they aren't. Basic salary.

I wonder how they build it up.......

Whatever....

Lucash and Bellamoney are in reality on £70K if their agents' brags at the time they signed are true and as they say, perception is reality so far as the rest of football is concerned.

Certainly the Icelandic owner who is now Chairman had a moan about the wages that Magnusson awarded and no doubt he would be delighted if someone were to take Lucash and Bellamoney off his hands so he can get a sensible wage structure sorted out.

However, neither are likely to excite Real, Barca, ManU or Chelski at which point the list of clubs routinely paying those sorts of wages gets very thin.

Nicko

i was wondering what the situation of valeri domochivsky was.

Is he proper or is he a flopper thanks :rover:

We should know more by the end of the week...

As for West Ham, I do know they are looking to sign young players in this window. Perhaps the big-spending days are over. Remember they spent loads to avoid relegation, so maybe they have achieved that goal this season too - which is about all they want.

Interesting to see how Rigters, Treacy and Berner do today.

A young target for Rovers will be named in the Sunday People tomorrow among a mass of exclusives... ;) But it's no biggie, so you might have to look closely to find it.

Maybe Nicko can confirm the suggestion that Rovers have agreed a fee for Savage with 2 different clubs today that is beleived to be around 1.7m with a payment structure in place.

Maybe he can also confirm that Roberts has also had a fee agreed with a southern based club believed to be 3.1m and that an announcement is going to be made by Tuesday should he prove his fitness over the weekend.

I hear that Matt Derbyshire may be fit to play today after all. The word is he will have a painkilling injection on his sore ribs. But he will need a late fitness test.

Otherwise I think it is going to be a fairly strong side, not taking any chances of an upset.

Good to hear.

Care to rephrase that after todays result

NO FEE AGREED WITH EITHER SUNDERLAND OR DERBY FOR SAV...STILL SHORT.

NO TO THAT ONE TOO.

The side should have been strong enough, but they did not play.

Rigters is miles short, Treacy froze...but the rest of them have been peforming better than that. They just flopped.

A total shocker.

Thanks for the words of confidence Nicko ;)

Result is just an indication for us needing money for players in Jan :(

It needs freshening up...and spending on two or three new and exciting faces.

But I don't think there is much money around.

So selling Roberts and Sav would be a start, but it takes more cash than that.

An ideal world would also include selling McCarthy and signing Anelka. But we don't live in an ideal world.

I find it interesting that Rovers, Everton, Bolton and Birmingham have gone out today. It confirms my thought that the Premier League really isn't that good.

Don't worry about telling us like it is Nicko, I think "much money" around is giving our coffers too much of a compliment. Even if we sell, say a valuable asset such as Benni for 7 million (just as an example), I'd put good money on Hughes only receiving say 50-60% of that money made available for transfers.

Correct me if im wrong but i remember an article a couple of months ago saying Matt Derbyshire reckons the was some talent in the sunday leagues as some of the young lads take it really seriously, i wonder if weve ever checked that hotbed out.

Just seen Sparkey on Sky Sports News...

He said we didn't deserve a thing and Coventry deserved all their praise.

Then the interviewer said "You spent a long time in the dressing room after the game..."

and Hughes said something along the lines of;

Yes, there was a lot of things that needed to be said, they may not like it... but it something I feel they needed to hear!

Sounds like someone got the hairdryer treatment.

Good, he needs to strap them to a wagon wheel and flog them.

1) Surely it had needed saying before now - why did it take so long?

2) Will it actually make a difference?

Never mind the blue and whites and the sky blues - the air was certainly blue over Hughes this afternoon.
