SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Yes, there was a lot of things that needed to be said, they may not like it... but it something I feel they needed to hear! Sounds like someone got the hairdryer treatment. Sadly it appears Hughes is having to do a lot of it this season......do the players listen?

nicko Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Don't worry about telling us like it is Nicko, I think "much money" around is giving our coffers too much of a compliment. Even if we sell, say a valuable asset such as Benni for 7 million (just as an example), I'd put good money on Hughes only receiving say 50-60% of that money made available for transfers. I think he would get all of the money from the sales of Savage and Roberts...plus a bit more. So that is about £4.5 million from sales and maybe a further £3-4 million from the club. It's not that bad a financial position, it's just a matter of finding the right players on a tight budget. But overall I think the squad could do with a freshen-up. By the way Huddlestone sent off for butting today. Not sure about him at all.

Maybe it's just me trying to be optimistic, but I hope that we used the extra TV money that hasn't been spent on transfers/wages/lower ticker prices to secure our financial position, by perhaps paying off loans or whatever it might be, and doing so with the belief that the squad didn't need much strengthening this season. And thus that we can spend more of next season's TV money, and doing so at a time when perhaps the transfer fee inflation has subsided . Now will the prices actually drop? I don't know, but considering that wage budgets as well as transfer fees increase, and that wages aren't a one-time cost like transfers are and will thus carry over for several years, it's possible. Probably just wishful thinking, but maybe we need some of that on a day like this?
rebelmswar Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 It's not that bad a financial position, it's just a matter of finding the right players on a tight budget. I think a mosquitoes arse is a proverbial chasm compared to our budget.
broadsword Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 We can't keep on running teh team like this and expect it to stay in the Premiership, we're defying gravity. It would be interesating to compare where we've finished in the league in the past few seasons with a league table of net transfer spending.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 By the way Huddlestone sent off for butting today. Not sure about him at all. From the angle I've seen it, he barely moves his head looks more like he's tryna give him a kiss rather than a head butt.

John Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Any interesting stories flying around tomorrow Nicko?
rebelmswar Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Any interesting stories flying around tomorrow Nicko? Levski claim striker deal Domovchiyski nears Blackburn move http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_3025734,00.html Is this on the level? I mean that was fast if we have bought him before the trial.
John Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hughes said we have an option to sign him if he impresses during his trial.
rebelmswar Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hughes said we have an option to sign him if he impresses during his trial. But doesnt this sound to you like we have already come to purchasing terms and just await the wage portion to pan out?
John Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I would guess things are in place (for a deal to be agreed), but Hughes always likes seeing players first hand before signing them. Therefore, I would be surprised if he is not on trial this week first.

USABlue Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I find it interesting that Rovers, Everton, Bolton and Birmingham have gone out today. It confirms my thought that the Premier League really isn't that good. One off games with the minnows totally up for it and the bigger clubs perhaps not into it. Surely the better gauge would be the league itself, where promoted clubs regularly get relegated. Or is it just a Scottish/Dingle thing?
rovers1993 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 nicko any truth in mark hughes planning a 5m bid for steve sidwell from chelsea? seems he hasnt played that much and i always thought he would fit the bill at rover as he is creative and can control the game when given the oppurtunity. http://www.lep.co.uk/sport/Blackburn-want-...star.3644655.jp
RevidgeBlue Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 This cheered me up slightly, not much, but slightly: Today's NOTW claims Woy will move in for Henchoz if he fails to land Sami Hypia from Liverpool. Plus ca change.
rovers1993 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 selling henchoz will free up some wage budget at least and we do have alot of center backs already.

Might as well say we're interested in Messi and Kaka.
tcj_jones Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Nicko, you mention signing Anelka as "ideal," but he's more likely to cause squad unrest than the re-signing of Corrado Grabbi and him being a regular starter! He would not be with us for more than a season, maybe two.
Mozzer Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 nicko, linked to a couple of players today..just wondering if you have any information.. steve sidwell-2million??? djibril cisse-used to play for liverpool. John Calve-some left back from le mans
nicko Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 THE BULGARIAN KID...it is definitely a trial, although there is a price agreed if he does well. SIDWELL...would be a very good choice for midfield, but I believe Chelsea are keeping him - for now. He played in the FA Cup yesterday, so they are obviously not freezing him out just yet. ANELKA...I think signing a player who could yet make the season a success has got to be considered. Despite all of the FA Cup gloom the fact is that Rovers are six points off fourth place. If they get it together - with just the league to concentrate on - then that is not a gap at all. It may sound silly, but a top-four finish is within your grasp. I think every club above you has a distraction of one kind or another. ON THE BIG BOYS IN THE FA CUP...I'm sorry to say it confirms that some clubs are better at hacking out Premier League points than turning up a gear for FA Cup ties. Ad in some cases it proves that Premier League clubs have some very ordinary squad players who cannot take centre stage and make it happen when asked.
John Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Round-up of stories below: Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa are both tracking French defender John Calve. Fulham have joined Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in the race to land Blackburn striker Jason Roberts. Djibril Cisse has also drawn inquiries from Blackburn and Man City. And the Sidwell rumour.
