is there anything more on lance davids..

according to some reports he impressed at right back in the trial for blackburn..

i just hope the defeat to coventry makes mark hughes realise he does need to strength his squad-we have the number of players-some arent good enough tho..

i would like 3-4 players coming in, in january..

Very much box to box which is what we could do with in my opinion. I'm good mates with a Reading player and he thinks he's vastly overated - and actually thinks James Harper was the better of the two when at Reading, but lets face it he'd be a decent upgrade on the guys who have been performing there recently.

Was he saying this before or after Sidwell left?

It's Kevin...and I don't think so. But the details are yet to fully emerge. It's a shame because a lot of money has been spent on these kids but very few seem to be coming through for one reason or another.

The reason being that the very principle of academies is flawed. You can't pick kids as young as eight years old and make them into something they can never be, unless you get very lucky.

I'm sure it's the same at Aston Villa and Everton but they are actually bringing youngsters through. I think it's clear that there is mismanagement at out Academy. Downes has been in the job for years with little to show for it. It's worrying that very few look like making the grade and that we are being linked with a left back despite having Olsson on the books.

Our youngsters are only ever loaned out to league 1 and 2 which is also a worry...

The top clubs always got the best youngsters. The academies haven't changed that.

That's the key, - getting the best youngsters. The older they are when they are picked up, the easier it is to judge them. The academy system doesn't make any difference.

I know he's been linked with Sunderland, I think they have even had an offer turned down, but is there any chance that Hughes may look like that and at what price?

I'd love it if we got him, if only to shut my friends up! When I said we were interested they all laughed saying he was going to Man U or Chelsea. Come on Hughes, let's get him!

Savage to Sunderland looks right, failure in bid to get Hunt with 3 million may resort to them looking at Sav for that.

People, we were never going to get Anelka. For one, a player of his calibre comes to Rovers once in a blue moon. Secondly, there was little chance we would ever pip the likes of Chelsea to his signing and thirdly, he is a self-involved, arrogant and highly ambitious man who would only ever leave for one Europes big clubs. If not, then wherever was offering the most money.

I doubt we were ever in the equation. I doubt that the club even inquired as to his availability.
