bobsterbrfc Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I'd love to see Rovers go for Reading's Stephen Hunt, think he has the tenacity of Savage but with a bit more ability that could be honed futher alongside Toogs. Sidwell would also be a cracking signing methinks.

herbergeehh Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I hope Stephen Hunt is signed by someone soon, that's for sure.

brian_gallagher85 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Nice to see everyone joining my "Sign Stephen Hunt" Campaign I can't remember if we've actually been linked with Sidwell in the papers, I think I saw it in one of them at the weekend. Just wondering if Nicko had heard anything or is his silence on that subject significant in any way?
rebelmswar Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Any truth about this story from this very accurate site? Henchoz to Fulham, give them credit though I can see that happening. http://www.blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=95608 Yes it is already on here. Sorry about that a little bit of a brain freeze there.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I believe it was in the News of the World here yesterday and even Nicko mentioned it...probably will help get the wage bill down too

thenodrog Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Can that really be right though? Where does the £11.75m come from, as Dunn and Duff were sold the year before. Probably just my memory failing me, but apart from the £4-5m from Ferguson I can't really think how we'd make that kind of profit. That table tells me that..... 1. Benitez has some nerve asking for more money to spend. 2. Not only is Hughes doing an exceptional job but Arsene Wenger is the Daddy.
LeChuck Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 2. Not only is Hughes doing an exceptional job but Arsene Wenger is the Daddy. It's quite unbelievable what Wenger has done at Arsenal. He started off the entire process by purchasing Anelka for £500,000 and selling him for £23 million, or whatever it was. That enabled him to bring in Henry etc and rest, as they say, is history. No wonder they have such an incredible stadium, they don't really need to pass funds down to him, he'll pretty much generate those on his own. Imagine how much players like Fabregas, Van Persie, Adebayor, Toure, Eboue etc. are all worth compared to what he bought them for...then there's next generation coming through that will either fill the first team or be sold on for massive profit. Could he possibly be the greatest in the world at the moment? I know if I owned a football club I wouldn't want anyone else in charge of it.
EwoodGlory Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Nickos news confirmed by Sky Sports Derby agree Savage fee Good luck Sav, you were a great signing and servant to the club.

Hmmmm, although I agree he has done an amazing job when you look at the figures it must be taken into consideration that having the Arsenal brand behind you doesn't half tempt players to coming. Do you think Fabregas would have come to Rovers if we'd have offered more at the time Arsenal got him? The same goes for when you sell a player. If Anelka had come to us and done as well we wouldn't be able to ask for £23m but more like £15m because people know we need the money more than the likes of Arsenal. I guess we'd only know the true comparison if Hughes was allowed to take over at arsenal and Wenger came to us......
Mozzer Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 if blackburn had money the sort of players we should be going for are... jermaine defoe-who has been told he can leave spurs- http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3030188,00.html and lassana diarra who newcastle have made an approach for-we are better the newcastle-but he is probably out of price ranger http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3030624,00.html also, im only saying this because its ridiculous, not saying we should buy him, but ben haim to spurs for 8million-chelsea would be laughing-hes a decent defender, but is no way worth 8million.. with savage looking like he is leaving before sunday, surely we should have another midfielder lined up-we only seem to be linked with strikers, but with mokoena away, savage leaving, we only have tugay, dunn and reid..
Ricky Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I dont recall Hughes ever selling a player without a replacement lined up. He's always held on and sold when it suits us. I cant help thinking that we'll have a new midfielder in pretty soon after Savage goes.

Dunn and Reid are struggling with injurys so that just leaves us with just Tugay

modes98 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 but with mokoena away, savage leaving, we only have tugay, dunn and reid.. Dunn and Reid will both be returning from injury and not 100%, should they be fit at all. So that leaves us with Tugay

Or if Abromovich's ex-wife or a bored and retired Bill Gates fancied taking over BRFC. Dont forget the fact that when we were paying top dollar Zidane was allegedly sitting by the phone waiting for a call from Ray Harford.
tcj_jones Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Diarra would be such an excellent signing. I hope we can get him.

Use soccerbase.com and you'll see that Wenger's spending is much greater than reported. You'll also see that almost all the talented youngsters have been poached from top clubs all around Europe and compensated for. E.g Denilson (3.4 mill) and Diaby (2 mill). There was also a Norwegian teenager(Nordtveit) signed for 2 mill this autumn, who hasn't played yet for the first team. That will also tell you that the accumulation of talent Arsenal have, has not been cheap. Not taking anything away from Wenger, when you the potential these youngsters have, it's quite frightning.

Not taking anything away from Wenger, when you the potential these youngsters have, it's quite frightning. Awesome is a better adjective imo. The frightening bit in football is providing the level of funding that has been provided by the boards at the likes of Spurs, Lpool, Newcastle, LUFC etc to poor managers for a sod-all return*. * Lpool got very very lucky. Never has the truism 'more down to good luck than good management' been more applicable since the sinking of the Bismarck.

That was a clear situation of trying to find a replacement once we'd already lost the player.

It appears to me he was lead right up the garden path by messers Bellamy and agent.
