bazza Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Hopefuly this is similar to RSC's knee injury that kept him from playing for Paraguay a couple of months ago. Maybe a smoke screen to damped any interest in him from clubs that can't afford Anelka/Berbatov. I hope so. Never thought of that.

Maybe a smoke screen to damped any interest in him from clubs that can't afford Anelka/Berbatov. Wouldn't it be easier if he just pledged his (immediate at least) future to Rovers? If he fancies a move to a bigger team I don't think he'll let the club say he's injured if he's not.
nicko Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Roque is very settled, don't worry about him. I know his attitude is that Rovers had faith in him and took a chance when others didn't. So you have no worries on that score. The injury scare is about a player who picked up a strain in training and may/may not be available for Sunday. I won't name him until I'm sure. Can't think of any good reason to tip off the opposition. However - if his injury is bad - there will HAVE to be a signing.

Mozzer Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 must be someone in central midfield-maybe david dunn or steven reid..thats the only area we are weak in..we only have 3 players, and if one is injuried thats 2 players.. john williams has dismissed reports we are interested in matt taylor, i wasnt even aware we was after him-i never seen us linked to him any where..
Torgeir Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Can't think of any good reason to tip off the opposition. Nicko the Rover
JAL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 However - if his injury is bad - there will HAVE to be a signing. 'Have to be a signing' after watching the shyte over the past couple of weeks surely its a MUST and more than one quality addition at that.
gazsimm Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 i fear the player injured might be Bentley, we are doomed if he is injured now, What is going on Hughes?????????, we need to bring in a replacement for Savage now, we can not just rely on our old turkish delight in midfield
cn174 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 i fear the player injured might be Bentley, we are doomed if he is injured now Doomed to what exactly?
ihateburnley Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I can't remember anytime in the last ten years or so that we have needed to make a NUMBER of signings so urgently. I'd say we need a right-back, two midfielders, possibly a left winger and a striker. That's five players in positions that aren't usually cheap to buy quality in. With that kind of shopping list in mind, I'd say we'd do well to attract any kind of household/recognised name this window. To buy even average players in those positions you're looking at a bill of AT LEAST £15M (a very optimistic £3m per player on average) - and I seriously doubt whether we have half that amount. Expect loans, loans and more loans. Perhaps we are paying the price of spending hardly anything in the transfer market, and of building our team around an ageing nucleus of a squad? Anyway, good luck Hughesy!

Hopefully whoever it is will recover in time for Sunday.
gazsimm Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Doomed to what exactly? any chances of finishing in a u.e.f.a cup spot maybe
robborover Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Perhaps we are paying the price of spending hardly anything in the transfer market, and of building our team around an ageing nucleus of a squad? I'm thinking the same thing. We have a fair few players over 30 now. I still stand by the idea that Hughes MUST have a target lined up and driving towards Blackburn as we speak. I can't see why he would let Savage go today otherwise.
McClarky Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I don't think there's any need for panic. We have a pretty good squad and need a couple of new players, no different from anyone else in the top half of the league. I reckon we can trust Hughes to uncover a diamond or 2 in the next couple of weeks before we start flinging ourselves under buses. As we are out of all cups and aren't likely to win the league I would say that we don't wanna be wasting loads of money on mediocre players like the likes of Boro and Spurs will no doubt be doing. On saying that I would like that Diarra and a right back..

LeftWinger Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Who is it that does that really good picture with all our players in their positions? I think now would be as good a time as any to have a look at that - it really helps show the areas we need cover in.
robborover Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 It's probably looking a bit empty in central midfield at the moment though.
mattjansen Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 According to Swedish papers Lance Davids will find out this week if Blackburn want him, he is off to african nations so hopefully Hughes has dropped interest.
Presty On Tour Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 lot of rumors flying about lately. heard we were interested in sas and diarra, though what made me laugh was the ex rovers man sukur to boro link....surely he's getting close to 40 years old now. diarra would be a tidy signing though mh would have to sell his body on street corners to raise 6m for a player. i'm not to sure on sas, 31 and could be just over here to claim his pension. We have our own sas on the message board anyway who's a younger version!!
modes98 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 he is off to african nations so hopefully Hughes has dropped interest. oh I didn't even think about that one. Guess Hughes must have someone else lined up then. Starting to look desperate in CM. diarra would be a tidy signing though mh would have to sell his body on street corners to raise 6m for a player. If the board are going to give Hughes extra resources to buy anyone, maybe it should be him. I'm sure his value will only increase in the next few years.
rover6 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Weren't we going to sign Saloman Olembe one year until Souey found out that he was going off to the ANC? Looks unlikely that we'll sign Davids if he's not going to be available immediately.
1864roverite Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I am just back from the physio dept at Euxton Hall hospital (private) where a number of wigan RUFC were being treated/put through their paces. I got chatting to them about Wigan and Dave Whelan at which it was suggested that Whelan is looking to offload the football side of business at the JJB ! During my physio session I was asked about my sporting allegiences at which my physio stated that brfc had the best facilities around and that there was a possibility of them opening a business similar to bwfc in that field, which grosses some serious money.
only2garners Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 He's good like that but it could well be that he has little to do these days. I suppose he could be sorting out our thrid rate "Club Shop" (whatever happened with that - weren't the Fans Forum told that something was imminent at the start of the season?), )[/size] Sorry Bob but we weren't. This is the minute from the August meeting of the Fans' Forum: - Regarding the issue of management of the club shop, Tom Finn stated that the club had stepped up its attempts to reach a satisfactory solution with SWI. The club are as keen as fans to get the club shop issue sorted and are doing what they can but are in a difficult legal position. The next Fans' Forum is next Monday and we will be asking for an update again but I'm not hopeful of any positive progress.
